Konami doesnt really know how to make a decent HD port, the metal gear collection was a real fiasco, and although thi one is ¨slighty¨ better, its still not acceptable.
a good counselling for you Kojima san: talk with 343 industries, and learn from them how to make a proper HD remake, like they did with HALO: Conbat Evolved
You see, here’s the difference. 343 only remade ONE game, not 2 or 3. JUST ONE. They didn’t go back and remake halo 1 & 2 and push them onto a disc. Not only that, but by comparison about which games visually aged well, most of the collections still looked better than halo did back then.
Zolrak, do you actually know the difference between “remake” and “remastering”?
I think you clearly don’t.
Let me explain this for you: Halo was a remake, which means that 90%, if not more, of the game assets have been replaced with brand new ones.
This is called remake.
Metal Gear Solid instead, has been taken as it was and rendered in HD with nothing new inside.
This is a remastering.
Now, ZoE is going through the same exact process.
The thing is that nothing has been done from scratch here, but just renderd in HD, as it is supposed to be.
So, please, try to think a little bit better next time you want to write a nonsense comment.
Epic fail there ZOLRAK, 343 did not remake make or re-master a game into HD, Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary native resolution was 1152×648!
To quote Richard Leadbetter…..
The new footage also allows us to confirm some previous findings we gleaned from previous trailers and Halo Waypoint videos. Many may well be disappointed to learn that, in all the assets released to date, Halo Anniversary doesn’t render at a native 720p resolution. It’s fairly evident just with some basic pixel counting that there’s a 9:10 ratio between native resolution and the output of the 360 itself, translating into an 1152×648 resolution.
I have the MGS collection and saying it’s a fiasco is complete bullshit. They upped the resolution and frame rate, put AA on and packed the games together on one disk. It’s exactly what anyone could have expected from an HD collection.
Correct Fluffy, MGS HD Collection is a proper and very well done remaster with all bells and whistles that make these games even more enjoyable.
Halo CE instead, although quite a remarkable result, is not even HD.
@everyone
I think what zolrak is saying here is that the way the game was presented in the anniversary edition was better, not the resolution.
I mean just think if they had taken MGS1 and given it MGS4 graphics with both graphics engines running simultaneously so you could actively jump between them based on whether you wanted to play something pretty or play something nostalgic? it just seems like a better deal when they actually update it with extra features and actually bother to update the textures, models, and general effects rather than just up the resolution and put better AA on and call it a day.
what’s more why do people always get uppity with resolution? I jump from playing 1080P on my pc to playing reach on my xbox and I have no problems.
though I will say this, collections like these that say that they are “HD” when they’re only 720P is ridiculous, when I play I don’t care what resolution it is but when they advertise it it irritates me, 720P should be changed to Standard and 480P should be changed to Sub-Standard. it’s not “High” definition when it’s in the middle. it doesn’t make any sense.
HD port!? Giving it a complete make over means that it’s a remake, and usually doesn’t happen unless the company know for sure that’s the project is going to be profitable. I mean really, even with the concept already existed, it still requires a lot of time, money, and efforts to redesign and recode everything from scratch. Most companies aren’t really comfortable with that, especially since nowadays, game development is rather costly, to say the least.
That’s why we ended up with HD-remastering. Touch-up on the textures, adding a few more new stuffs, up the frame rate, while still keeping the nostalgic feel of the original version, and ta-dah, good profit with minimal amount of efforts.
Not saying that it’s all that great but I think it’s kinda crazy to compare a re-mastered project with a remake one, knowing full well what re-mastering means. It’s just a way for the company to look for some quick cash, it’s not like you have to buy it, so just deal with it. If the team seriously wanted to make a remake, they would have done it already.
@Bigburito
What’s so ridiculous about it? 720p is HD, 1080p is FullHD, that’s the way it has been all these years, I really don’t see the need to change it now.
@Bloodios
it wasn’t a total remake, the physics engine and all mechanics in the game were identical to the original, the only differences were (a. terminals spread out in the levels that when interacted with with the kinect gave you information about the halo series, and (b. the multiplayer used the reach engine rather than the original. the only major thing they did was update the visuals, while also keeping the original visuals. on the other hand here we have a fairly lazy port, updated resolution, tweaked graphics, and not much else. most people who would be buying this would have owned the originals so why buy this when they can simply rip their games and then update the visuals on the computer with mods in an emulator? (the ocarina of time 1080P mod is amazing btw)
in 1956 a company in Britain created a television that could output in 560i, it was considered high definition, when tvs began to have progressive scan it was touted as high definition. now we are on the cusp of having resolutions far beyond 1080P just look at the new ipad, it has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 on a 9.7 inch screen, that is beyond 1080P on a screen half the size of the current smallest HD screen! think of the resolution a 24 inch could have with that! what would we call that? super duper FullHD? no, we’d call it high definition and 1080P would no longer be high definition. it shouldn’t just be a title but an actual rank.
@BigBurito
You asshat the game hasnt even been released yet. And why izzit so difficult to remake Halo CE into 720P HD if Konami can do it?
O yeah, coz Xbox have a shitty 10MB eDRAM due to lack of foresight by M$oft.
Be fair they did a better job with MGS but silent hill hd collection was a disapointment.
Metal Gear Collection was not a fiasco. The average reviews for the games very high.
Personally I think graphics look great in it. They are sharp and framerates are smooth.
One big issue that I am upset about it is that they kept the controls the same. As you know metal gear games have very complicated control schemes which are a pain to get used to.
Almost makes me want to avoid them, but I’ll play them since I never played the originals and never owned a PS2
@redblack
your hindsight is 20/20, though here’s a question, if Microsoft didn’t have the foresight to put in more than 10MB of eDram then what does that mean for Sony who put none in the PS3? I guess they didn’t have much foresight either. or maybe the main reason is far simpler, maybe Halo CE required more processing to run (comparing the original consoles these games came from one can clearly see the original xbox had much stronger hardware for the time) not to mention that as stated before they completely redid the textures and graphics to make the game look like a current generation game rather than an old game in a higher resolution.
and no, I have not played this collection but as can be seen above the graphics aren’t all that much of an update, most of it could have been done by anyone with a copy of the game, a pc, and a PS2 emulator.
also I must say that your insults and general rudeness are disappointing, if there was a report button I would have used it since the rules of conduct forbid such personal attacks.
Ps2 visual or Ps3 visuals, i can’t decide which i like better. They look pretty awesome in both :X
I remember playing a ZOE demo years ago and really enjoyed it but never played the actual game…This looks like it’s going to be a very nice HD port and I will take the opportunity to finally play these games.
Don’t buy into HD remakes. Its the reason our consoles are not backwards compatable.
That’s not the reason they’re not backwards compatible, but developers are using HD Collections to get new release sales from an old product.
Also. Not all of our consoles aren’t backwards compatible. I own a 60GB PS3 and used to own a 360. Most of the original XBOX games are bc. All of the ones I want to play aren’t, can you believe it? Taito Legends 2 with Bubble Symphony and both Knights of the Old Republic games are really all I care about playing on the 360. I can play all three on PC, but haven’t been a PC fan for about a decade.
Whatever is the reason for not being backwards compatibility, that is not the reason not to buy the “remastered” or “remade” “collections”.
If a person wants to play a game they never had a chance to play before, they should go ahead and buy it, if they feel they have enough money to spend on it.
“Jehuty in 1080p.”
Pretty cool Mega64 quote, although it’s Jehuty in 720p.
Both KotOR games are “playable” on 360, the sound is slighty off and can be a bit jumpy but the games still run solidly.
Zone of the Enders were already in 60fps not 30fps, lol….. maybe not constant by mostly…
I give up with Konami. I have no idea what this company is doing anymore.
First, you killed Silent Hill, then Contra, Metal Gear lord only knows what happened there and now this crappy port.
Although, I did like Castlevenia LOS.
Peace!
