Although the roughest days for the Xbox 360 are finally behind it (the dreaded RROD), the system still has the highest failure rate out of the three major consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii).
A recent survey shows that Xbox 360 owners have sent their consoles in for repairs more than double the amount of PlayStation 3 and Wii owners. According to the survey, 10% of 360 users sent their consoles in for repairs over the last year. We must note that the failure rate of the 360 has been going down year after year, most likely due the much needed and various redesigns of the system.

wow, im so shocked by this news, i think ill have to sit down lol
a large amount of this number, is probably older consoles though.
“a large amount of this number, is probably older consoles though.”
They are talking about 2011, this year, so no it’s not about old consoles.
just because they talking about 2011, doesnt mean older consoles wont have been handed in for repairs etc. remember older consoles had 5yr warranty on rrod.
so not as black and white as you may think eh?
RRoD warranty is 3 years not 5. But you are correct, the survey does include all 360 models sent in, not just slims. It’s amazing they were able to reduce the failure rate by so much, being as it was once about 40%. It’s a shame it took them 5 years to make a reliable console though.
@ROBBIE
LOL what an idiot. M’suck definitely loves customers like you.
After 5 years only did they manage to cut it down? And they dupe you xbots saying RROD wont happen anymore. Why of course! Its now called the RLOD!!
LMAO
Duhh…. not sure why this is reported. Its already engraved as the most unreliable console on earth in 2008!
yes but microsoft gives you a 3 year waranty if rrod appears,so thats not a big problem,if your ps3 fails you only get a year.
Actually my ps3 overheats more than my xbox.
LOL what? I live in indonesia and on the 3rd floor of my house with no AC. Been using my PS3 for 2.5 years and have never got a overheat even with playing 12 hours straight. The hell are you talking about?
SO you like to make multiple trips to the shop and return the shitty failbox eh? Next you also have no issues on your failbox failing when you feel like firing up a game eh? Fool.
Except now xbox slims also have 1 year warranty. Take that shit up your arse xbot. LMAO
Well let me see.
Which one do you prefer: xbox 360 old model with 3 years waranty,or ps3 old model with 1 year waranty?
I know your iq is not that high to see which one its the better option.
As far i know the xbox360s model keeps having 3 years waranty for the rrod in case that you have it,but its almost impossible.
And yes my ps3 overheat too much,i want to sell it and buy a slim model.
So get the facts before you talk bs.
Wow. the 3 yr warranty was offered primarily to address the RROD. And even that M’Suck recycle those failbox to other customers.
Go on bend over like a bitch for M’Soft see if I care. Hahaha..
Take off those xbot glasses for a minute will ya? Then go beck and learn some history.
Bollocks PS3 overheat.. what? you keep it in your oven??
bwahahahah well even if thats true, better than xboxes that RRODs and died straight dont ya think? You know… THINK? Oh why bother your brains up your arse!
@SUPERLOCO23
You’re an imbecile and no human treatment can cure you.
“As far i know the xbox360s model keeps having 3 years waranty for the rrod in case that you have it,but its almost impossible. ”
Bullshit. My 360S only has a 1 year warranty and luckily for me, it died within 6 months after purchasing it!
Only reason ms gave that warranty was, to cover their asses, as legally they were in big trouble, ss their failure rates were.unacceptably high. It wasn’t out kindness of their hearts lol.
No idea wtf.wrong with your ps3, I’ve accidentally left ps3 slim on for a day and its perfect still . My 360 slim still gets warmer, but only bit
Really Sony fanboys… MS gamers have admited they have RROD problem years ago. But you idiots till cant get over your YLOD problems so you downvote someone speaking the truth?
Thats just sad… shame on you all!
Dunno, my xBox 360 fat manufactured in 2008 and used since then works just fine. Some scratches on the case, loads of them on a controller..
@REDBLACK
Well, fat ps3′s do overheat. Some models are know for overheating issues. Some are dead cold no matter for how long you play them, and some overheat and jump to fast loud fan cooling level within minutes.
I have a ps3 that overheats like mad. I’ve keept it clean, vacumed it weekly, even changed the thermal compund. It’s so loud and it overheats that I’m planning to sell it and get a slim.On the other hand I have a 2008 fat xbox model that works like a charm(*knock on wood*).
I know that this isn’t very common, and usually it’s the other way around… But it happens.
Dear very lucky xbox_dude, read the article. Xbox 360 is proven to be the most unreliable console. End of story.
My fellow expat is still using a fat PS3. Its noiser than mine, but hell his plays PS2 games goddamit!!
This is the main reason why I got a PS3 instead since all my friends told me their XBOX 360 got fried either within a few weeks or several months. I was disappointed cause I love XBOX in general so I opted for PS3 and it works just like the day I bought it. That was on May 12, 2010. I still want an XBOX 360 (specifically the Gears of War SKU) but I’m more than happy with my PS3. No problems with PS3 thus far.
“A recent survey”
That right there kills this article. This is nothing more than fanboy bait. I’m very disappointed in LOT posting this crap article.
i mean is this really news? everyone knew this hasnt been fixed so i have no idea why why you posted this LOT well on that case all systems have a chance to fail so idk why every1 is crrying my old Fat ps3 failed me and i had an over heating problem but i got a new one and it worked fine for another almost 2 years and then it messed up with freezing prob due to the time of me never turning the damn thing off haha but i have a new one now and still havent pay more than 50 bucks for a warranty from best buy haha
What a shock…
RRoD for microsoft – normal condition.
YLoD for SONY – The Past.
There is a reason why i never turn on my 2005 launch model, its been sent in twice. And if it goes again i’m not replacing it. So i just decided not to use it.
My gaming is done on reliable hardware, PC and PS3. So see you next generation Xbox.
Sell it to another xbot. They’ll happily take it in their ass…
I am no fan boy , but gravitate towards my ps3. I am on my 5th xbox, first 4 replaced buy best buy . protection plan is a must ! I am on my 2nd ps3 . My blu-ray drive gave out on the first one .
Overall, this gen hardware has been bad (outside of Nintendo). Hopefully, MS & Sony learned their lesson and implements it next gen.
Overall, the 360 is bad. I have a launch 60 gb and a slim 320 gb PS3. They both work perfectly. Hopefully, MS learns there lesson and implements it for next gen. :p
well, i am on my 5th 360. (3 RROD, and #4 gave to a friend and bought a slim) on my original wii, but i dont use it, and my original ps3, and use it.
oh, and all my original 30 other systems too. never had a system die in 25 years.
oh wait, my turbo grafx 16/cd died
All that needs to be said: LOL!
This is not suprising. In Microsofts history, they have always design second rate hardware. They have always been market leaders in software and operating systems, but thier hardware has always fallen short.
