According to a recent report, the Nintendo Wii U will have less power then both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Developers familiar with the hardware who spoke to GamesIndustryInternational, on a condition of anonymity, say the Wii U just isn’t graphically up to par with the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
“No, it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360.,” said one developer who’s been working with the Wii U. “The graphics are just not as powerful,” reiterated their source.
Apparently the developer is not alone in their opinion as another developer at a major company confirmed this point of view.
“Yeah, that’s true. It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360,” said the source. “There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.”
If proven true, this would certainly be disappointing to those wanting to jump into the “Next Gen” first with the Wii U. Nintendo is expected to reveal the final specs of the system at this year’s E3 in June.

That’s actually a good thing because now Sony and Microsoft won’t need to upgrade there hardware for a few more years.
im not as capable of buying another gamecube
Thank… Nintendo? Now I won’t have to say goodbye to my 2 years old PS3 and my 2 months old Xbox 360.
Of course it isn’t.
Wii U : PS4 :: Dreamcast : PS2
Nintendrones will buy it and claim it’s the best thing since sliced bread regardless of whether or not it’s more powerful than current gen systems.
Of course.. they haven’t seen better XD… well I love some Wii games hahahaaha
I stopped listening to any source that “demanded to remain anonymous” when one said that “Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire will be the best looking title at launch for the PS3″ (if you don’t know it is the ugliest game of the generation, with terrible controls, and has been lauded as the worst launch title in history)
seriously there are people saying it’s 50% stronger that it’s the same and now that it’s less honestly I say screw it and just wait until E3 when we can see some real gameplay in action before deciding just how well it stacks in comparison.
I’ll wait and see what Nintendo has to say about this, but if what these guys said really is true then it truly is disappointing (to know that this upcoming system isn’t even as capable as ones that came out 6 years ago.)
What? That would be a joke. I thought Nintendo already stated that the Wii U was capable of 1080P@60fps. Oh well, so much for my plan of switching to Nintendo in case the PS4 piss me off with DRM and similar crap.
I have a feeling the Wii U games that will be 1080P@60fps are the Cartoony ones and some racing games. Like Mario with lots of colors but like no textures at all.
PS3 can also handle 1080P@60fps but those are very few exclusive racing games and some PSN only arcade stuff. Those games may have the pixels and performance but Uncharted 3 still looks way better.
Obviously FAKE
bullshit
wii u is powerful, the new zelda 1080p show in e3 is amazing.
They’re not saying it’s not powerful, just that it can’t pump as much power as Sony and Microsoft’s current systems overall.
Don’t take this fully as the truth since the Wii U’s specs haven’t been revealed; however anything can happen by this point.
sorry to burst your bubble mate, but the zelda demo was running at 720p w/a AA and it did not run at a constant 30fps, there were small perceptible dips in frame rates.
It seems just a lot of crap. A Wii U developer with a name (not this anonymous garbage) claims otherwise:

I would wager this is likely true. Nintendo has never been cutting edge when it comes to horsepower. When Sony and Microsoft initially release a console, they sell it for less than it actually costs to manufacture. This is done for rapid market penetration and they reap the profits over time. Plus they make plenty from licensing to third party developers. Nintendo intends to make profit on every piece of hardware sold on day one so the technology is often underwhelming when compared to the current competition. Just compare the original PSP to the relatively recently released Nintendo 3DS.
HEY! NINTENDORKS! WANT POWER? BUY PLAYSTATION 3!!
WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH!!
