You know about the original “next Xbox” rumor which has Microsoft announcing the next Xbox at CES 2012, codenamed TEN (or loop?). Well here’s another rumor. This one comes from French-based site Xboxxygen, whose source is said to come from “very close” individuals who are linked to Microsoft.
Xboxygen’s source states the new Xbox will use a hexa-core type CPU with 2GB DDR3 Memory and a prototype Dual-GPU from AMD. Sounds like a beast of a machine, but again, this is only a rumor. However, what are your thoughts on the “hexa-core” CPU? Do you think these specs are really a possibility for the next Xbox? Let us know below. CES 2012 begins January 10th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Thanks, pinoytutorial

nope dont believe it for it for 1 minuite dual gpu hexacore and 2gb of ram wow sounds like a dream machine but how much would it retail at it would be very pricey for a console with them specs would be nice tho but hey what do i know sounds like the console we have all been waiting for
Hexacore Processors are readily available from both AMD and Intel, taking into account that they considering using a prototype Dual-GPU from AMD one can only assume it would be something similar to a AMD Phenom™ II X series processor with a 6000 series Dual-GPU. 2GB DDR3 Memory still seems a little lightweight but makes sense from a performance and cost perspective. All they would need to do is put an SSD in and this console and it could be quite the epic console.
x86 cpu in console would be a waste of money, they will not deliver floating point performace like ppe cores and you will loose backwards compatibility with xbox 360. And dual gpu is to expensive for console too. So – no, there wont be such configuration.
Agreed, although that would probably run old Xbox games better
. But yeah a Hexa core IBM CPU would improve things quite a bit, considering the earlier was a 3 core with SMT, and although it would provide 6 threads, 6 actual cores will still be a great improvement! The Dual GPU part confuses me a bit, I’m not sure why they would do that, Crossfire works really well, even better than SLI as of lately, but I don’t see the use for it in consoles, even on PC’s it’s pretty overpowered unless you plan on using 3 or more screens. The thing I could imagine, although this would be quite complex to implement, is that they have two mid-range GPU’s(Barts as an example), and one of them has great powersaving ability, or ability to turn completely off, so you don’t have to make it a powerhog when playing games that don’t need the power, or just being out on the dashboard. These are just rumors, but much more likely than the idea of them using ARM, and that the dual GPU is a prototype makes me hope it’s an upgrade from the Xenos GPU with it’s ED ram, although instead of 10Mb, we’ll see something useful like 128Mb, next to the hopefully 1-2Gb GDDR5 memory, anyway very interested, and can’t wait to see what both MS and Sony will off this round.
No one has said anything about what type of cores it will have. The ARM stuff sounds unlikely because ARM is much too weak atm, but I do think a RISC architecture is a pissibility just like current gen, and SMT I think is pretty likely as it would be crazy not to try and get as many cores(real or virtual) as possible. People keep talking about how the GPU or CPU will be xxxx and the rest, but lets be honest, that stuff doesn’t really happen any more. The xbox had it’s own custom made GPU which wasn’t unlike HD500 sporting some things from HD600, but it was different in that it had its own little tricks like memexport. The CPU was custom made, not related to anything you buy for your own pc at home, the ps3 cell broadband engine, not related to anything you buy for your pc at home, although the RSX GPU was quite like the 7800GTX, but that is because sony stuck it in as an after thought. We will be looking at custom stuff here, not what we see on the market as that would be too expensive for something powerful and if you wanted to, you would just be able to make your own console. Also when they say that the console will have 2GB DDR3 RAM, that isn’t so bad as number 1, the OS for consoles is sooo much less resource hungry than it is on pc, and you don’t have anywhere near as many extra programmes running in the background. Number 2, they haven’t even talked about graphical RAM which will hopefully be GDDR5. Also when you talked about there being no need for 2 powerful GPUs, i guarantee that 6 years after the console has come out, and the GPUs are quite outdated, developers will be thinkin that 2 GPUs look pretty nice.
Complete hogwash I say.
wow…so much power and so little memory…come on next gen!! more freaking memory
Its 4X the amount of memory we have now, and I doubt it will be shared memory. That would be somewhere in the ballpark of 8X the amount of memory..that’s fine with me. Plus, a console OS shouldn’t use up the same amount of RAM as a PC OS. So doesn’t have the need for the high RAM requirements PCs have.
Eh would like to see around 3 gigs nothing less.Sony needs to have a clear hardware advantage next gen.I i the Ps3 is a better console then the 360 is it vasly stronger..no.So this is hoping Sony brings out the big guns this time around.
That’s what I just said. 2 is sufficient. 4 is excessive. You just said the median.
Hmmm…
NO
The dual-GPU is game breaker.
Too complicated and pricey for a console.
On the other hand 6 Core CPU would be nothing special – X360 has 3 full cores with 6 threads total.
PS3 has one full core + 7 SPU (6 for games).
Calling it hexa-core won’t change anything.
I know this is a rumor, based probably on nothing, but don’t write off that dual-GPU just yet. ATI/AMD makes a fine mobile cross-fire gpu for laptops that has great performance and power consumption. I find it intriguing that the rumors coming out seem to be following the theme of low-consumption, mobile-based specs like the previous with ARM being a possibility. Maybe MS is going to take a new approach to consoles or maybe not. Next year should be an exciting one if the rumor of a 2012 announcement holds true.
im already writing it off bc of all the other rumors that state the next xbox will be cheaper than before so i doubt this would help with price
This is great for NOW, but in 2012/2013 those numbers will be too weak and out dated.
Ok, lets be realistic here. The CPU part is not impossible to accomplish since CPUs in general are getting cheaper, but putting a dual-gpu (mgpu) set up on a console is still far fetch. I would love to have these specs on the next xbox; however, microsoft needs to sacrifice a lot of things in order to accomplish this. First, pricing will be an issue especially when you consider adding other technology such as backward compatibility, blu-ray, and other stuff. There is a sweet spot in pricing and if this setup is true, the next xbox will cost $450+ making it expensive even for a console. Just ask Sony what happened to PS3 and the current pricing problem of nintendo’s WiiU. Second, if this setup is true the next xbox will be huge, to accommodate extra heat sink to support the 3-5 years console life span, this is critical because you don’t want another RROD type issue that will plague customers. Third, M$ is looking for kinect integration with their next xbox outing; therefore, lowering the price of the xbox is their no.1 priority. Not a fanboy or M$ hater, but in my opinion kinect will ruin the next xbox, trust me on this.
I will wait and buy the two next gen consoles. Bring it on. I will let the fanboy war for the weaks and stupids. Take my money MS and Sony.
shut up and take my money!!
I hope it’s true, The dual GPU sounds like a great idea. If they make it work like laptops that have dual GPU’s then it will be perfect for power consumption. The ram is too low, They need a minimum of 4gb’s. They don’t need a 6 core cpu, At most all they need is a 4 core with 8 Threads. I wish the new systems would come out sooner..
You know, mabye Microsoft should listen to Crytek and use 8 GB of RAM. That would be godly. Same applies to Sony and the PS4.
I agree. 8GB of ram only costs about $40 these days, so if they could have 8GB of unified DDR3, that would set them up for at least another 6 year lifespan. I’ve installed 16GB of DDR3 1600 in my computer and it runs godly.
2 GB is decent. 4GB would set us up for a long time. See my previous post. Especially if the memory isn’t shared with the GPU. Consoles don’t need as much memory as a computer. 512 MB of memory would be fine this gen if it didn’t have to share.
As far a prices go, don’t forget if they’re making it custom it’s going to cost more than PC RAM.
Here’s my most important question about the hardware: Will it set on fire and die every 3 months?
Agreed…I really want to invest my money in a robust console..
Here is a solution, buy PS4.
Hey, there’s no guarantee the PS4 will be better…the original Xbox was arguably better technologically than the PS2, despite it’s clunkiness. It was considerably more powerful, less prone to failure, and much more advanced with it’s online capabilities. Don’t forget the inclusion of the hard drive for autosave/music playback and such. Only real downside was it didn’t play DVDs out of the box, it needed a remote.
By the time the consoles actually come out, they won’t be as ” beast ” as some of you think they are. 2 GB right now isn’t a lot of RAM, so when it finally does come out, 2 GB will be on the low end.
The 6 core CPU sounds right on par considering the 360 has 3 cores. I like the idea of the dual core GPU.
The XBOX TEN will be 10 times better than the crapstation 4. And will kill the sony game system forever.
How many extra sock accounts do you have? And before people advise me against feeding the troll, think of it this way. Trolls are lonely, sickly and pitiful akin to stray dogs. It’s okay to feed them sometimes. I mean hey, the poor wretched things are starving.
What’s your reasoning? Sony isn’t going anywhere troll.
When my eyes see it,till then i take anything like this with a pinch of salt, just a rumor mill!..
id b very suprised if any future game console included a dual gpu setup, for one AMD and Nvidia gpu’s in SLI or Crossfire still suffer from micro-stutter so unless they can eliminate that why would microsoft, sony or even nintendo ever want that? secondly the heat output will be enormous, xbox 360 and ps3 barely cope with the heat output from 1 gpu let alone 2
I would have expected DDR4, but as long as the 2GB isn’t shared, that should be enough.
I think that 2gb its allright cosidering that OS uses just 32mb today and its unlikely the next use more that 128mb. I dont believe the dual-gpu solution, its more pricey and microsoft need the good price point to compete. I guess they use a mid-high processor with a high-end GPU and 2gb of RAM probably DDR5.
with such monster specs and will be selling at…??
at least $699?
The game developers would have an enormous chore filling those shoes. Why not 4G.
i guess that will cost a fortune.i’ve heard rumors that this might come sooner than u people think. + windows 8 are coming
but i really want to know what is sony up to
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/16/report-ubisoft-on-xbox-720-projects-for-2012-major-sony-dev/
The CPU part doesn’t WOW me cuz PS3 already have 7 cores at the clock speed of 3.2 Ghz, and thats for 7 years ago.but again this is more than the double of the current xbox360 which is very good, but the best part is dual gnu thing which would be perfect if they can deal with heating problem specially on xbox.
Xbox720 goes for double the current core >> HEXA
PS4 double the current core >> i don even know the name but suppose to be 14 core AND THATS WOW
pity for playstation, they have raised the bar so much 6 years ago that I’m not sure how they r gonna put more cores in to their future console.
I can’t wait for the new system.
Sounds exotic! I like it, supposing it is true.
One of the reasons why I’m a cough*PS3fanboy*cough is the ridiculously, and needlessly, over-engineered CPU.
If Sony can’t come up with anything ballsy, I’m jumping ship.
Im gonna take a little guess at what the name of the next Xbox will be. Considering the dev kits are called LOOP…. IM gonna guess that the next Xbox will have a “number” in its name like 360 but not a typical number. Ehh, here goes……
XBOX INFINITY
From Comcast (Xfinity) cable tv coming to Xbox 360 to kinect to Windows 8 <—– Infinity! I believe this will indeed be the name!
The question is what the next-gen consoles will really deliver that a PC can’t deliver now. I am not for PC gaming, I just love my PS3. But cheap PCs now can be already (much?) more powerful. Still, at the end what one gets is a better framerate, no tearing, some better lightning and antialiasing. Sure, they are very welcome but not enough *for me* to invest in a new game system.
I think I will stick with my blu ray ready, expandable HDD PS3 for at least another 5 years. The games are still getting better and better anyhow. Just look at the recent “The Last of US” trailer.
