During the latest edition of Windows Weekly, an interesting rumor came to light. The rumor has Microsoft announcing the next Xbox (codenamed TEN) at CES 2012. Here is exactly how the rumor looks on the Windows Weekly (show 233) wiki page.
Rumor: Next Xbox will be announced at CES 2012
Codenamed TEN, is all about Metro, embedded Silverlight and an Apple-like integration with Windows and Windows Phone.
In another story, insider blog MS Nerd also dishes out a few rumors on Microsoft’s next console. The blog states:
“I am now stating that Xbox codename “loop” (the erstwhile XboxTV) will indeed debut a modified Win9 core.It will use a Zune HD-like hardware platform—a “main” processor with multiple dedicated assistive cores for graphics, AI, physics, sound, networking, encryption and sensors.
It will be custom designed by Microsoft and two partners based on the ARM architecture. It will be cheaper than the 360, further enabling Kinect adoption. And it will be far smaller than the 360. It will also demonstrate how Windows Phone could possible implement Win9’s dev platform on the lower end.”

Now we’ve seen rumors about the successor of the Xbox 360 many, many times before, so we’re really not sure what to make of these two. What we do know is we won’t have to wait very long to find out – CES 2012 begins January 10th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I also heard a rumor that to go along with the new cheaper price, they have built the next xbox with only the cheapest materials imported from china and that it is also 50% more likely to have the red ring of death. None of this rumor make any sense.
First – Cell like design (one PPU 6 SPU for games vs. 3 extended PPU) with central core and “coprocessors”?
After easy to program X360 jump to nightmare with muliple ARM’s?
FAIL.
And Win9 core? That would make it ready in 2014/2015 or later… FAIL too.
Mt thoughts are that PS4 will be more ambitious than the next xbox.

Will buy which ever has best features and graphics. And of course would go for free online if possible.
The new XBOX will be the bomb for sure,i just want to pay for a better xbox live service in a superior console with superior graphics like xbox with 95% of the h2h wins.

Uncharted 3 is good,but it has textures pop ins,and the frame rate its not good at all.
Bro, liking your 360 is one thing, but liking Microsoft? My god, you are just… I don’t even know how to finish that sentence. We are talking about a corporation that was founded on nothing but hostile takeovers and ripping off everyone else’s products. Not one in the history of Microsoft have they actually done anything original. Windows is literally nothing more a severely outdated version of the MAC OS that they just keep building upon, and is likely to collapse soon. Products like the Zune and the Xbox wouldn’t even exists if it weren’t for the successes of Apple and Sony with their products. Your god, Bill Gates, got where he is today by stealing every idea from Steve Jobs, including the Windows concept. Kinect is a blatent eye toy ripoff; I mean, I could keep going.
That aside, I also love how you still believe the 360 to have some juice left. Gears 3 is the best the 360 can do, and it doesn’t even come close to Uncharted 3. I also love how you make it blatently obvious that you have yet to play Uncharted 3. The frame rate is actually perfect, and I have only seen the game drop frames once for a split second in my entire playthrough, and the pop-in is only in the multiplayer, which last a maximum of 10 seconds, somply because ND wanted to eliminate loading screens.
As for next gen consoles… Well, lets put it this way. The Cell Processor used in the PS3 was a mere prototype, a baby, of a Cell Processor, and look what Sony exclusive devs managed to achieve with it. Sony has already confirmed they will be using a Cell Processor once again, only this one is going to be a monster compared to the PS3 one. All Sony needs to do is make sure they get a good RAM chip this time, and the PS4 is going to be an unstoppable beast, when devs like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Guerilla, and Zipper get their hands on it.

We must have been playing a completely different game then. Even if you watch all the Digital Foundry videos, Uncharted 3 has almost a consistent 30fps all the way through. Most of the time it’s 30fps but it seems when changing from one area to the next it dips to between 28fps and back to 30fps.
You’re talking out your ass when it comes to pop in though. There’s texture pop in, much like Rage, but you won’t see any actual pop in. The only time I’ve ever noticed any texture pop in is when passing one of the windows in Yemen when you’re following Elena. The window actually looked like lower quality textures and then up to increased textures. Other than that I haven’t seen one bit of pop in on Uncharted 3 and I’ve played through normal, hard, and part of crushing.
Uncharted 3 has by far the best graphics I’ve seen on a console. Even Battlefield 3 as beautiful as it looks can’t compare.

Pop in and screen tear are non-existent in UC3. I am half way through it now.
Is this reply to me? Screen tearing wasn’t even mentioned. I also said there was no pop in, but you “might” notice texture pop in. Through my three playthroughs I noticed it at one single spot one time.
Restart the part in Yemen when you meet Elena for the first time and you got your passes. That first set of stairs you walk down there is a window to the left. The window looked extremely low texture, but then a couple seconds later. It’s weird that happened, but that’s the only part it happened on.
However pop in. Like a sign post way back or a house just appearing out of no where. That’s never happened in Uncharted 3. The draw distance and how much can be on screen at one time and the amount of effects all at once are just incredible.
Though there was one glitch that happened when I was on chapter 20. I think it’s chapter 17, the convoy. I was playing three hours on the multiplayer and went to finish up single player on hard. The cutscene didn’t play and I kept riding on the horse endlessly. I restarted checkpoint about 10 times and each time it messed up. When the cutscene did play, it switched to gameplay, but the graphics still had the cutscene filter, wouldn’t allow me to do anything until I ran into a blue screen and kept running. So I turned the game off.
After playing that part later on. Got through first time. I was like wtf? Because my first playthrough it didn’t glitch either.
Happened to someone else too. Except I was actually playing the stage properly.

I can’t believe the next xbox will come with ARM, if they do, the cost will be indeed lower, but also the performance. PS4 is rumored to pack a powerpc 7 with at least 4 cores, I don’t know any SoC the beat even the tripple-core xenon from 360. Of course its likely to be a custom design with co-processors, but after what happen with sony, did microsoft really want to go that way?
nah the ps4 wil likely still be cell based because of the billions of dollars spent developing it, and the fact sony bought a cell manufacturing plant from toshiba recently for 600 million dollars.
and of course backward compatibility.

I just want either the ps4 or xbox next to have a good chunk of memory to take it to the next level in console gaming. Don’t care too much about this integration thing. If it works then great just make sure that each console is a technical beast under the hood.
By the way as much as I’ve preferred the 360 over the ps3 this gen I will admit that if Sony gets a better gpu, plus more RAM/memory combined with the cell well all I can say is that would be a MONSTER console. You just can’t deny this. And then I’d have to drop my “ps-cripple” label! DAMN IT!

What I wouldnt give to see Jeff Faulkner come out at CES and show the new system, than say it can be yours for only $599 US DOLLARS!
But seriously though, I think both Sony and Microsoft will release next gen systems that will bring them a profit from day one. It took 360 quite a while to make a profit. Sony as a whole though is in the red so I would imagine the next Playstation to be more about making money than having top notch hardware specs, honestly same goes for Microsoft.
Profit over horsepower will be what the next gen is all about. Didnt Nintendo take that route with Wii?… Lets just hope they leave all the gimmicks behind with the current gen systems

its obvious that microsoft and sony are working already on their new consoles about this rumors i see it this way
NINTENDO: working on WII U trying to regain a relationship with the hard core gamers without leaven the casuals gamers alone, launching huge AAA games with the support of the third parties.
MICROSOFT: with the huge success and amounts of money that they win with KINECT they try to make a more casual console to gain more public and maybe be the No. 1 in console sales but also they still using HALO and GEARS OF WAR to get also a hard core audience.
SONY: developing a console more powerful than the PS3 using again the CELL but getting lower cost of production to don’t lose millions again and bringing back to life some of their most popular IP from the PS1 and PS2 years.
really the only thing i want from the new generation is brand new and good IP i really hope that NINTENDO, MICROSOFT and SONY launch a lot of exclusive for their consoles because with that the only winners are the GAMERS
