There is a rumor going around the Internet today stating Microsoft is planning on ending their current Xbox 360 “Microsoft Points” currency system. The rumor comes from an anonymous source source claiming to have very close ties to the software giant.
According to the anonymous source, Microsoft will be replacing the Microsoft Points system across Xbox LIVE, the Zune Marketplace, and Windows Phone with actual currency values (real money) for each region by the end of 2012. Microsoft has declined to comment on this rumor. We’ll let you know when/if they do.

Finally. This is great unless they adopt the 99 cent model they have on psn.
If this was true then it mite actually be good. Just a shame there is nothing worth buying on XBLA. All teh better downloadable games are all on PSN anyway.
You do realize you are chain telling bulshits, dont’t you?
Not very happy, as xBox Live isn’t supported in my third country, so no billing from my credit card… Atleast with MS Points I could buy card’s keys from offgamers.com, to whom my money isn’t disgusting. :p
lol I had the same thought, I’m from Denmark, but moved to Norway, I got my first Xbox in Norway, however my Live account was made in Denmark, so that made MS decide that they weren’t going to allow my Norwegian credit card work on my Danish account, it was never a problem with Steam, so why MS decided this? No Idea, it actually still doesn’t work even with my now Norwegian account, because the card has been blacklisted in their system or something, so yeah I just buy the gold and such from the cheapest place online, which is good for me obviously, although I wouldn’t have minded paying a little extra for easier service. I don’t know why MS hates money so much
.
There’s been a lot of news going around about the Next 360..

Sounds like a good idea, never felt the point system was a particular good one, and no one else uses it, and it’s easier for people to think in money rather than “800points is this amount of $’s”
It’s probably happening because the MS points system is making a mess with the EUR/USD exchange. In the PSN some studios rightly apply the correct exchange but that conflicts with the much more expensive MS points in Europe. So the games end up having different prices depending on the Region. Not that in the PSN many games don’t end up being more expensive in Europe anyway..
Unfortunately the issue you describe can go both ways no matter what currency you choose. Steam is a great example for this. Many European and AUS users get screwed on those sales and pay more than their US counterparts. At least with the points system it makes it slightly easier since it will stay the same amount no matter what.
Also, you can always find the cards for cheap as long as you keep a look out. I’ve gotten so many games and Xbox live on the cheap this way.
Well, what I meant is that the MS points make it impossible to adjust the price in Euro on the PSN, because the same game ends up being either cheaper in the EU PSN or more expensive in the US PSN compared to XBL. And keeping the same price no matter the currency always makes it more expensive in EU. A thing some EU studios try to avoid.
