Since its release in 2005, one feature has always been missing from the Xbox 360 — an Internet Browser. And seeing how Microsoft owns their own with Internet Explorer, the absence one such browser is a little odd. According to a recent report that’s about to change.
Website The Verge is reporting that Microsoft is currently testing a modified version of Internet Explorer 9 for the Xbox 360. This new Internet Explorer browser will expand on the 360′s current Bing voice search (which is limited to media results) by opening up a full browser for the console. Xbox owners will be able to quickly search using the existing Bing functionality. According to the site’s sources, Kinect support will not be mandatory, however the browser is said to be tuned for Kinect usage.
If true, more is sure to be revealed at E3 in June.

that…sounds neat…until it gets creepy. “XBOX! SEARCH FOR BACKDOOR BUNNIES 9!” though that would leave an extra hand open for…
the real question is can you wave your hand around like a mouse? that would be really neat! just think if java was enabled along with installing additional plugins! you could play quakelive on an xbox using kinect like some crazy future nerd!
I cn almost promise you the Kinect functionality will be irritating and fustrating.
lmao. Another example of M$ ommitting a feature from thier console, then realising they should of done it. Following in thte foot steps of others as always.
Now if true, it is good news for Xbox users but if they don’t enable updateable flash support it will be just as useless as the Wii.
The BIGGEST issue is the fact its IE. The WORST browser on the market today. It’s a joke amongst the internet community……….
@samchez77
“Following in thte foot steps of others as always.” ROFL I think that you’re talking about Sony here. Achievements>Trophies, Wii-Mote>Move, Xbox Live>PSN, Netflix(Xbox)>Netflix(PSN), Xbox Live Games Marketplace>Playstation Store. Yeah I’m sure you actually about about Sony following in the footsteps of others here.
Oh IE is leagues ahead of the browser that’s on the over priced internet ready blu ray player. Leagues.
The only thing that I agree with you on is the fact that if they’re going to do this it MUST have updateable flash. You’re right about that.
“Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made.” –John Carmack
actually with the recent changes in IE9 honestly it’s not that bad, it doesn’t compare to firefox but it’s still a thousand times better than safari and opera bar minimum…
Remember: No matter what , it´ll always be at least 5 times better than ps3s shitass browser. rofl!!!
Oh wow, it’s fucking nothing.
+1
Can’t remember the last time I wished for a browser while using a console. I think it’s pretty safe to asume NEVER.
ill make the http://www.youjizz.com as homepage if its release!!bwahahhaa
As long as its not as bad as that crap browser on ps3 it should be ok I give up useing the ps3 for browsing the net because it just keeps freezing the console it’s garbage
What about playing videogames with your consoles instead of doing PC stuff?
Besides IE comes to the XBox after seven years, just on time for its death.
And more: tell me about another console that has a good internet browser please ( XBox never had one by the way ), and about someone missing it to death.
I don’t think you ever missed a browser on a console, haven’t you?
True, the browser on P33 is difficult for doing things you would normally use a PC for………its like using a browser on a smart phone. I like it like public transport. I don’t always use it, but I’m glad its there.
HOWEVER, for streaming video its awesome. I use it quite regularly for Youtube on the main big screen, streaming tv shows on Megavideo & VideoBB (no need for pay tv)and other *ahem* video sites. The image quality when on full-screen mode is very good. This function alone makes it essential.
Those who say they hate it, don’t know how to use it to its strengths.
Youtube on PS3 is awful. It’s not even HD. Haven’t tried the others but I guess it’s the same low quality.
BUYING!!! My nemisis!!!!!
Thought that would get you out from under your rock lol.
Your right tho, IE is bound to be better than the PS3 one. I agree with that. The PS3 browser is OK for what it is, and being able to view imbedded video like Megavideo, videoBB and other *ahem* youtube like sites is it only saving grace. Hook a keyboard and a mouse up to the PS3 and its passable for general browsing……just.
I think we will see a big leap in browser connectivity next gen. Its a good inclusion.
Honestly, I think its a waste of time and money to implement this now. The next Xbox will soon be on the way so adding an internet browser to the current 360 when it’s nearing the end of its life span is kind of stupid if you ask me.
My sentiments exactly. Too little, too late. Better off waiting until next gen.
actually it makes perfect sense, it’s simple, cheap to implement, and it’ll help sway the “casual” xbox vibe microsoft has been trying to do so that copnsumers continue buying the system right up to the release of the next generation.
A bit late but at least it will help the 360 ticking over till the next console. Lets hope its implemented properly and updated accordingly.
I am sure it’ll be implemented properly; XBox 360 dashboard is pretty much a light version of Metro, so I really can’t see any problem with a complete and efficient version of IE.
