If your at all worried about American Nightmare not being a full Alan Wake release and just an Xbox Live title, fear not, Alan has more stories to tell. Matias Myllyrinne, CEO of Remedy, has confirmed to Joystiq that there are indeed more Alan Wake titles planned.
“I don’t know. I don’t know if that would dictate it. If it bombs [laughs], then that’s certainly a signal, but we’re fairly confident that it’ll do well [speaking about American Nightmare]. We’ll certainly continue with Wake. Right now we’re focusing on getting the PC out next week, then getting American Nightmare out. And it’s too early to talk about what our next move is, but we’ve obviously put things into motion.”
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is do to hit Xbox Live on February 22nd.

I hope so because if I can’t psychically hold a game (like American Nightmare) I won’t buy it, and I really enjoyed the first AW.
I’m sorry, but that’s the real dumb thought process.
In 20 years when you want to go back and play American Nightmare or any downloadable game for that matter, I hope your 20 year old system and 20 year old hard drive still work. If not, you have to hope the network is still around and still has the game available for download.
Sorry but I love holding my games, putting them away, looking at them years down the road, and knowing I can always play what I paid for as long as I own the system. Not so much with downloadable ONLY games.
solution, a solid state drive, in a game system (which is a fairly closed system) a solid state drive would have literally zero chance of corrupting and be usable for decades or more. while I do agree that I like physical copies of games, I also can see that the field is changing and downloadable games are going to eventually outweigh the disc games (Sony has completely dropped support for physical games from their handhelds and more than likely once the internet infrastructure of the US reaches the same levels as the rest of the world (we’re currently at about 20% of the speed europe is) most systems will probably go the same way.
also don’t forget that when you buy something digital it isn’t just a one time thing. it shows on your account that you bought and paid for the game and allows you to redownload it to again and again if need be.
also physical games don’t last forever either, there’s a thing called disc degredation that happens after about 20 years to CDs/DVDs that causes the inside of the disc to break down into a kind of powder and make the disc unreadable. honestly buying digital copies is actually more future proof than physical at this point.
Alan wake sucked. They should just stop making these terrible games and actually make something good for once. Wont be long til remedy realises that the $hitbox is holding back Alan Wake from ever being close to good, they should jump ship to the PS3 and maybe they could actually make a good Alan Wake game with stunning graphics, even better lighting and actually have it run in HD and at a stable framerate.
This game will fail just like the first coz all xbots like to play is kiddy shooters like gaylo
Take Sony’s wang out of your mouth. These companies don’t care about you. I swear, fanboys are some of the dumbest people on the planet.
I do believe remedy is owned by microsoft so no they won’t “jump ship” besides that the game was amazing, it honestly is one of the best games of this console generation. it did run at a stable framerate, I never saw it drop in my entire playthrough. ohh it’s running at 716P instead of 720P good lord such a travesty! and before you say it no it wouldn’t be 1080P on PS3, both systems have 99% of games running at 720P or lower (only about 2-3 games on xbox and PS3 actually run at 1080P) the systems just upconvert when you set it higher. if they actually tried to get them running at 1080P they’d both be stuck at well below 30 FPS for most games (the PS3 does run movies in 1080P though, since it doesn’t have to process the graphics, it just outputs the data)
I find it funny how people are replying to trolls. Any information you give them and even if it’s a true fact, they ignore, thus, wasting your time on writing paragraphs or reply with something utterly retarded. Wake up people, you’re not replying fanboys, you’re replying to trolls. Maybe I don’t even know if fan-boy trolls do exist but they’re better left alone and ignored until they get a life.
@Trolls Valentines Day is coming guys, it’s your only chance to get a girlfriend. Use your tiny brains for once and make a wise decision
@Lens of Truth
I strongly recommend that you guys add a flag button or a block button. It’ll help this community a lot better from fan-boy troll infestations in my opinion.
You’re wrong BIGBURITO Alan Wake was in 960x576p, You would have to be blind to not see the game looked terrible because of this. Alan Wake was not an amazing game, I enjoy a good story but this one had me wanting it to end so i could move on to something worth playing. The repetitive gameplay was just boring, Another thing is the farm equipment that you got hit with and he just brushes it off like nothing happened. This whole game had me shaking my head and by the time it was over i had a sigh of relief..
Hey unscarred, your fanboy is showing.
@unscarred785
OoOoh what a travesty! it must have been impossible to see anything! oh wait it was fine, heck it was better than fine. honestly it’s one of the nicest looking games I’ve played. the only reason I even knew that it was sub 720P was when I read it on a wiki after I went searching for those hidden pages. honestly what it loses in that bit of clarity it makes up for in high end effects, great motion blur, v-sync, better textures, a silky smooth 60 fps, and to top it all off some of the best sound design in a video game (only a couple titles have better). also if you really think higher resolution=better looking then you really aren’t someone who should be spoken to in regards to visuals. and the gameplay was only repetitive if you made it that way. if you played on nightmare there wasn’t any way to be repetitive, if you didn’t conserve munitions and think out of the box you couldn’t move on.
and the story was damn amazing, it’s some of the best writing I’ve seen in a video game. anyone who bashes it discredits themselves.
Those are the game’s shortcomings, and they’re there to stay, forever. But those who actually enjoys the game wouldn’t mind. After all, their time was spent on having fun playing it, not wasting it on looking for dissatisfaction. But that’s that.
As for how well would this game perform on the PS3? Well, if the devs are willing to completely rewrite the code so that both the PPU and the SPU will have their juice completely squeezed out before sticking it to the RSX (which is difficult to say the least), then yeah, sure, I think it’ll do just fine. Of course, they’ll also have to do away with MSAA altogether and stick with post-process AAs (preferably MLAA.) A2C stuffs will be a problem though…
@PS3FTW
Next time, please think really, really hard before you spit out such ridiculous nonsense.
@Bloodios PS3 is very good at deferred lighting, because buffers can be rendered by GPU & SPU’s in parallel(to gdr & xdr memmory). Most of graphically impressive PS3 games uses it. Alan Wake with rewritten code for spu’s could run 720p but with lower resolution alpha effects and as you said different type of AA. I loved Alan Wake (borrowed xbox from friend to play it), but low resolution and screen tear was kind of a turn off, but despite that what a great game it was.
Didn’t knew Alan Wake on xbox already uses alpha to coverage for transparencies.
@senis_kenis
I didn’t know about it until I read this analysis from Digital Foundry:
It would seem 4xMSAA helped a lot in the process. It’s also the reason why I’m not sure how well the graphics will translate to the never-going-to-happen PS3 version. I mean, last time I checked, MLAA didn’t do so hot with all the A2C stuffs in F1 2011. And 4xMSAA, or MSAA in general, isn’t good for the RSX. Also, I don’t think using lower-resolution alpha FX will really sit well with a game like Alan Wake.
@Bloodios
In Alan Wake alpha buffers are already ultra low resolution (A2C (960×540)/2=259200 pixels). On ps3 they could use 1/4 alpha resolution of 720p ((1280*720)/4=230400pixels) which is practically identical quality for alpha effects. Uncharted 3 uses this kind of alpha setup and I personally can tell the difference only in still shots.
P.S today I started playing U3 and I sea heavy use of volumetric high quality lightning effects and this game runs 720p perfectly. Just to point out that if Alan Wake was programed for ps3 architecture resolution could be 720p.
True, huh…
Oh well, that’s good and all, but the deciding factor is still whether or not could Remedy actually do it. After all, to fully utilize the potential of the PS3′s system is a rather difficult task.
In the end though, Alan Wake is never coming out to the PS3 so it doesn’t really matter.
By the way, I wonder if there’s any technical improvement in American Nightmare (or downgrades…)
@Bloodios I couldn’t find any info about native resolution, but did read somewhere that visuals were improved, so we’ll have to wait for DF analysis I gues.
Hey AINSLEY, At what point during what i wrote did i say anything bad about the 360? I’m talking about the game not the console, Besides Anal Wake is no longer an Xbox exclusive now that it’s coming to PC.
@BIGBURITO. Not only am i a console gamer I’m also a PC gamer and as a PC gamer i know a thing or two about visuals, Higher resolution will always look better than Sub-HD with Anti aliasing tacked on. Anal Wake was nothing but smoke and mirrors and to the average gamer such as yourself i would understand that you think it looks “Fine”.
