In a recent interview with MCV [via VG247], Microsoft global marketing director, Steve Beinner spoke about the Halo brand, and just how huge it is.
“Honestly, there’s not many franchises that have done what Halo has. There’s not many that have broken through and sold that much. You named two of them, GTA and Call of Duty. But if you look at platform exclusives, nothing is bigger than Halo.”
So just how important is Halo as a ‘platform exclusive’? Give us your thoughts below. Halo 4 releases this Holiday, exclusively on the Xbox 360.

but hey, at least it gives microsoft an excuse to be lazy.
microsoft: why release over 17 exclusives this year, like sony, when we can just release 1 milked exclusive and make roughly the same amount of money. everyone wins. except for the 360 gamers of course, but they are deluded and complacent enough to let us get away with it, and continue to reward us with 60$ a year

On topic though, Halo is a very important Xbox exclusive. To me, it helped cement the original Xbox’s position in the global console market.
Really? Cuz I’m form Europe an no one gives a f… about Halo franchise here. Those games seem to be made for American audience in mind. Master Chief looks like Hasbro toy form the ’80.

Halo is the biggest exclusive OF RECENT TIMES. if you want to go into sales, Gran Turismo actually beats it. mario is bigger, so is pokemon.
I think what they mean is the whole universe. It is like the star wars of gaming culture (plz dont mention a star wars game). it is the biggest game when it comes to gamers recognition, but overall, to the more pop/casual culture, pokemon and mario will never be defeated.
no other series has hooked or mesmorised me as much as Halo, and I used to be a hater of it (played the origianl like couple years after it released). i have read many books, played every halo game, watched pretty much all halo videos (including the Halo Legends).
im sure many gamers are the same. does it make Halo better than any other game? well, it is an opinion, not a fact.

Halo is on the top only because it’s one of the few exclusives. With the PS3 we get to choose, and so the sales are shared. Typical MS BS. Halo is good only for them milking money not for the players!
GoW 3, UC 3 , TM , collections (lol) gt 5, kz 3, sure you got a few there but dude that milkage also dont make it seems like ps3 is any better at that .. and no halo isnt the only “top” game on xbox.. maybe you guys should try look at the spreadsheet before talking.. just sayinø
Nope Strutten buddy, it isn’t just UC3 but UC, UC2 and UC3. Plus more to come. LBP 1 & 2. GT5 is 2 games. Motorstorm: 3 games. Resistance: 3 games. KZ 2 & 3. Racthet and Clank (4 games?). Infamous 1 & 2. Heavy rain, Demon’s Souls…. and so on, I am getting tired just writing them. And they are just the major AAA titles. Don’t make me talking about the PSN exclusives…

Oh sorry. You wanted me to look at X360 charts? Ok, let’s see. In the X360 top 50 there is Halo, GoW, Forza, Fable and some kinectic stuff. Finito. Most of them are at least 2 years old. The PS3 instead has the list I made above. With new IP coming as well. Where are the new IP for the X360? Xbots fanboys and especially MS can say what they want, but compared to Sony in terms of exclusives MS loses big way. We have got variety which is the reason why I choose Sony on first place.
In any case Halo isn’t the biggest. Mario Bros and other Nintendo IPs kick MS in the balls. But on the other hand it is the same MS that claims RE5 and FF XIII were going to be bigger in the X360. Yes, sure. We have all seen it. Typical MS bs.
Sorry M$, but Nintendo’s got you by the balls there. If your console only has 2 big exclusives that define it, then of course they’re going to be extremely popular. It’s simple statistics. In the end, though, actual gamers like having more options, and not everyone wants to play the 9th installment of Green Power Rangers in Space or Cliff Blezinki’s Gay Fantasy 4 for the rest of time.
butthurt or mad ? i dunno, but that was a lame attempt dude, kz 3, gow 3, gt 5, uc 3 shall i go on (that is milkage also yet that you dont say anything about how so?) but why in the first complain about how many games there are seriously you can do better than that ? 2 big exclusives ? wuut ? my libary says something else atleast more than 2.. anyway why do people care so much about that anyway ?, most of the games played are multiplats, i really cant see the problem and all the bashing its games dude seriously.. there more than enough for the majority of people to play on xbox only cows seems to try to claim some sort of ownage.. both got a nice share of exclusive just take a look at spreadsheet almost equal in terms of that besides 1 or 2 games but thats it.
@STRUTTEN Halo has been around for 2 generations and six games have been released, coming up on a seventh. I personally don’t have a problem with it but you know Microsoft is milking this particular series. Bungie has been done with the series since Halo 3 and 3 games have been released since. 4 games and 7 in total at the moment if you include Combat Evolved Anniversary.
God Of War has 3 console releases in 7 years, Killzone has 3 in 8 years, Uncharted has 3 in 5 without another release for at least another year make that 6 years, Gran Turismo has 7 in 15 years if you count just worldwide releases. Halo has released 8 in 11 years. It is being milked and more-so than any other exclusive title. I don’t particularly mind it but it’s just the simple truth. I like Halo fine, but ODST, Reach, CE Anniversary and Halo Wars were all games with the sole purpose of milking the franchise. Last generation I would have said no, they are just making a great gaming franchise but this gen they have just milked and milked and milked it.
Yeah, I forgot about Mario! How can someone be so arrogant? No franchise could possibly be bigger than Mario, and as games are still being released, it can be considered as recent.

I’m not bashing Halo that much though. It’s pretty spectacular to have gone as far a it has.
Yeah MC has no Chance against Mario, because so many people know Mario.
But in Terms of Sales Halo 3 has demolished both Galaxy Games but I am not so sure about New Super Mario Brothers.
And I don’t say this to disgrace Mario or Nintendo, but numbers don’t lie.
In my opinion no console exclusive in this generation of console beats Super Mario Galaxy 1 in terms of gameplay,music and overall quality.

Super Mario Galaxy actually sold more Copies than Halo 3.
Halo were just a fun pew pew pew games that lasted a few months for me. In my opinion, Alan Wake will always be the best Microsoft exclusive I have played until a new and better game comes out of M$… IF there would be one ever…
