In a recent interview with PSM3, Team Bondi co-founder Brendan McNamara admitted the Xbox 360 version of L.A. Noire wasn’t the only version having issues fitting the entire game on a single disc. Team Bondi completely dropped two “desks” from the game.
Brendan McNamara told PSM3 Magazine:
“We had a Bunko and Burglary desk – bunko is fraud and burglary is just people robbing houses and stuff – we had eleven full cases for that, which we wrote and did the design for to a certain extent – we even did the art for them too, but it just got to a point where we were never going to fit it on one Blu-ray,” he said.
“It just becomes super prohibitive at that point. I think there might have been a better arc if we did do that – you get more of a chance to introduce different things – but in terms of the overall experience I think we did pretty well.”
We knew L.A. Noire was a big game but, completely exceeding a 50GB Blu-ray Disc is pretty amazing – L.A. Noire has to be the first game to do so (at least the first game we know about).

A 25 GB Blu-ray may not be able to take the game, but that’s what multiple layers are for. I seriously doubt that LA Noire was more than 50 GB on disc.
Thats exactly what i would like to say. I doubt it will use more then 50gb lol. It may be the 1st game to bs it exceeded 50gb space too.
look at this a ps3 fantard defending has favorite system. If it wasn’t for the blu-ray discs there would be no difference between the to besides trophies/achievements witch by the way achievements > trophies
Ah, the hypocracy of the 360 fanboy. How goes your day, Xbot? Still butthurt that your console gets destroyed by one that you pretend to own? Thought so.
I wonder how the Achievment system is better? The trophy system is obviously much more competitive than the achiement system. There are different kinds of trophies, and you get a special one for getting all the rest. There is actually much more incentive to get a platinum trophy than to get 1000 GS. Why? Because it actually shows you got a platinum trophy, and doesn’t simply tack on to a meaningless number, and with PS3 trophies, your progression is actually shown. I digress, because either way, it matters not.
In the end, you’re just a closet butthurt “fantard” (as you out it), and nothing more than another hypocritical internet troll.
@DialgaMarine
Hey, hey buddy you keep saying that have a ps3 that I wish own. guess what pal I do own one in fact i’m on it now. I’m currently playing NCAA Football 12 on it. message me at rapturesassassin i am on now. the other game i’ve got is smackdown vs raw 2011.
It’s really just personal opinion. Defend what you like. =/
Just what i thought none of you here really have Ps3s. or else i’ve would have gotten hate messages by now. You all must be 360 gamers. but defend the ps3 brand without even gaming on it lamo.
Hey AGAMER908, Your mom is so fat she needs two 360 Gamer tags!
I’m starting to think you’re all 12 year olds….
Ah, the hypocrisy of the POS3 fanboy…
AGAMER908, you are cementing your position as a legitimate retard here. LOL to Unscarred…two gamer tags.
Why would anyone waste their time logging onto PSN to send you hate messages when they can do it here?
how you going to call people ps3 fantards when your self is acting like a xbox fanboy with achievements are better than trophies.
he didnt mention the ps3 -_- ….he only mentioned the blu ray and its space
Wow your the tard the defends his gaybox like it’s the coming of Christ.Get off it everyone knows they didn’t go past a single layer blu ray disk.
Achievements sucks.
Ha, So win one for the 360. Even the Ps3 version had to make some cuts. So i guess blu-ray discs don’t matter.
how is that AT ALL a win for the 360 with it’s three discs? I’m really needing to hear the logic on that one.
Also, I find it hilarious that you’re calling someone else a fantard when you’re the one spouting about achievements being better than trophies….WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TOPIC.
you really are an idiotic fanboy
so team bondi is telling me that the 2 desks that were taken out are bigger than the WHOLE GAME which was 22gb… um no. I am pretty sure they are talking about the single layer disk that they used
And I never got how achievements are better than trophies? Unless i am “looking at this 360 fantard defending his favorite system”
karma’s a bitch
Yeah, LA Noire ended up being around 22GB, so they must be talking about a single layer blu-ray
i really think it was basic 25gb single layer disc. the game itself was no way bigger than 50gb blu-ray disc. I could guaranteed if they were to use a 50gb disc it would be able to fit everything they wanted and still have plenty of room left over. Movies are the only form of entertainment that use 50gb disc and they end up putting everything they need on that disc. So hardly doubt la noire is bigger than 50gb. The only games that i can think of that came close to 50gb is GOW3 and MSG4 those games have way more things going on than la noire has.
Have we so quickly forgotten Metal Gear Solid 4? That had to be majorly compressed to fit on one disc.
It was most likely a single layer disc. Brendan is probably just saying it’s the PS3 when it is probably the 360s fault. If they did a duel layer it would have fit on PS3 and the 360 would have been about 5 – 6 discs instead of 3. Way to go 360 holding everything back.
Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t a dual layered cost more than single layer blu-rays?
Exactly like 6 DVD9 discs would do.
No reason to go off topic, unless you’re trying to justify something.
I guess that answers my question. Thanks anyway.
Yes, that answers your question, nothing more and nothing less, of course. You are welcome.
trying to get the last laugh? lol
i thought he did lol
Why back him up?….Fanboy thing I guess =/
NA I just don’t like douches acting like try aren’t fboys
And the cost difference btwn a dl bluray and a sl bluray is pennies on the dollar and a lot less than another 3 dvd’s
Asking a logical question= fanboyism?
That’s some logic you have there.
Na it’s just your other stupid comments. And the question you asked was just plain stupid. Cause it’s an obvious question and you could have googled it
Maybe they were stupid, but why answer them if they were so stupid?
I’m a nice guy thats all
And anyways this site was never meant for the adult audience (as you can see from the comments) to reply to your 12 year old comment
lol and thats why I love this site it gives me a lot of laughs from the ps360 fanboys
Sure im a ps3 fanboy but I do own a gaming lappy and gaming pc as well so no loss for me.
ahhh thanks for the heads up ^^
To big for blu-ray, and too boring for me. pass.
@ samchez77
Enjoy your boring run of the mill shooters then. Have fun paying for overpriced map packs there were recycled from other shooters you have played. This game is what real gamers play.
Nah this game is for the kids that are too fat to ever join a real life police academy and work their way up and becoming a real life detective. “Real gamers,” really?!
Article should be edited to make clear that the developer was referring to a single layered blu-ray disc. If this game was approaching anything near 50 gigs, that would mean the 360 version would have shipped out with 5 or 6 dics.
@ LoT, where did it state they could not fit the game on one dual layer blu ray disc (50GB)?
I’m pretty sure they meant they could not fit the game on one single layer blu ray disc (25 GB). Considering they were able to fit the game on 3 DVD DL, that means the game itself was under 25GB. I seriously doubt the 2 “desks” they dropped amounted to the 25GB-30GB worth of data needed to push the game over 50GB.
C’mon, I think it’s pretty obvious by single disc, they meant a single 25GB disc. Why assume they meant 50GB? Keeping the game under 25GB would also keep them under 4 DVD DLs, which would prevent them from paying Microsoft extra.
Have no doubt of the scale of the game but it sounds like they needed better optimazation more then disc space…
…I doubt any game with only sheer data would be too much for a dual-layer Blu-ray disc. Such only happens when pre-rendered cutscenes come into play.
What a load of crap. 3 DVD’s include duplicate data. 3 DVD 9′s on MS console = 1 layer of a BD, there’s dual layer and beyond. If anything they’re saying they were trying to keep it under 25GB to make it cheaper to produce.
They could easily fit the whole game on a dual layer BD. And then and the option for a install game on the console. It is very easy. Why they dindn’t, i don’t know.
So basically he admitted it’s 360′s fault as MS doesn’t allow developers to go beyond 3 discs. Blame MS and their 20th century storage medium for their “HD entertainment media hub”.
then it’s maybe because of the xbox that they didn’t make the game bigger…..just saying
They’re not even talking about a double layer BD disc….. Double layer BD discs are 50gb not 25gb. Allot of the games on the Xbox run on double layer DVD’s. Why couldnt they just use a double layer BD Didsc for LA Noir?
Oh yeh because the max Microsoft allow is 3 discs for a game so they couldnt give the PS3 more content otherwise it would be ‘unfair’
xbox is holding ps3 back these days……
“xbox is holding ps3 back these days……”
THAT IS TRUE
