If you plan on picking up CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for the Xbox 360 on April 17th here’s some words of advice from the developer – install it to the Hard Drive. In a recent interview, CD Projekt RED’s Marek Ziemak revealed that installing the game to your system’s hard drive will make quite a difference in terms of performance and visuals.
“If it’s possible to install the game [then do so], because the streams will be faster, you’ll experience some better visual quality, because the hard drive is much faster than any media,” CD Projekt RED level artist, Marek Ziemak, told Eurogamer. “It will improve loading times, it will improve the quality of the meshes, probably also because we have faster streaming means faster movement between memory and hard drives, so you’d be able to load the good chunks and then just change them directly from your hard drive.”
The Witcher 2 was one of the top rated PC games of 2011, and if you want to play it in all its glory set aside some hard drive space — while an exact size wasn’t revealed CD Projekt RED has already confirmed the game will be shipping on two DVDs.
In other Witcher 2 news, a new gameplay video of that Xbox 360 version is now available for your viewing pleasure. This gameplay video gives a perfect look at what to expect when it releases in April.
[UPDATE] There appears to have been some confusion between the publisher and the website as CD Projekt RED has clarified that the below footage is indeed from the PC version. However rest assured knowing the Xbox 360 version looks “absolutely stunning“.

the PC version is still infinitely superior
this version is still pointless
end of story
Yeah, pointless… except for the many people interested in playing it, but can’t since they don’t have a gaming PC like some of us.
Arbitor, I am honestly getting sick of the PC gamers arguments like this. Most of us don’t want to spend a fortune in a power machine, especially a desktop. Many of us bought a laptop already because we need them to be mobile. So to spend another.. what? 800-1000 euro just for the HW is pointless. Unless, like many PC gamers do, one plans to get the game from free in the bay full of pirates or any other Torrent Shop.
Also with consoles we get games the PC gamers are crying for. Demon’s and Dark Souls in terms of combat mechanics are for sure much better than any The Witcher. Graphically they still deliver a lot, because even if a little sub-HD they are ARTISTIC. And those are just two of the many. The list of consoles only games is too long.
Do multiplatform games generally look and perform better in powerful PCs? Sure. It’s like to ask if the is Pope Catholic. But do we need that extra polishment? Not me. Better performances yes, in some games. Tearing and frame rate drops with the graphics usually limited to 720p @30 fps are the plague of this console generation. Maybe if MS waited another year instead of pushing the market we would have had HW more in line. Still with many games they do an excellent job, especially with the console exclusives.
In any case my mind words: Next gen MS and Sony consoles will be the last ones. For a very long time at least. The human eye at a distance can’t really go above 1080p. 60 fps is more than enough. Pure realism doesn’t matter. Stylized games at 720p with the right number of polygons often look much better than very realistic ones. At that point the pro PC fan base will be dead. Because the battle will be on the IPs and services. Not to mention the user friendliness of starting the console and its games with a controller and not with the ugly keyboard.
“No Vodka. No passage.” LOL!!! Now that’s my kind of monster!
Is nobody going to call out Buying1999 on the no M A N D A T O R Y installs on X360 tidbit he keeps mumbling?
The video is NOT Xbox 360 footage. The dialogue option with the troll clearly shows the cursor being moved. This is PC footage pure and simple.
Don’t promise the moon on a stick if you can’t deliver
You’ve still got the moon ilensreader, it’s the 360 version. Here’s the link to the site that posted the video and a comment the site made on their youtube channel.
“This IS Xbox 360 footage. We’ve got it directly from Namco Bandai with the confirmation that the video only shows the 360 version of the game.”

This is NOT gameplay footage from the Xbox 360. During the conversation with the troll you can clearly see the mouse cursor being moved. This is PC footage pure and simple.
Even when you play the PC version with a 360 controller you don’t see the mouse cursor during conversations, so this is moste definetly NOT 360 footage.
You promised me the moon on a stick LensOfTruth and delivered me a lie
What’s that? You actually have to install this game to get the most of it on 360? Aaaawww… Buying and his 4 GB 360 will be so disapointed… Mabye his mommy and daddy will buy him a new one.
Dialgamerine do ive heard your mommy calling you??
@ZOLRAK Did I hear your grammar nazi teacher calling you?
I can’t wait to get this on my PS3, oh wait… Ahahahahahahaha
1 console only Playsluts are bitter! The craptastic version of Mass Effect 3 doesn’t help matters much for them either!
@Aaron LoT Staff
Actually, there seems to be some confusion on their part, too. The staff at CD Projekt RED Forum has confirmed that the footage is from the PC version of the game, not the Xbox 360 version. You can read it here:
@ Bloodios
Thank you for the link Bloodios. I just updated the post.
@Michelasso
you know that you can get a very good gaming pc for less than 600 bucks and that the pc has very good exclusives (civilization V , Arma 2, Total war series … i could name thousand that are better than any console exclusive)
sorry dude but the pc is the BIG deal
