Welcome back for another exciting Heads Up! This week we “Hack” our way through Dishonored on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to give you the “Heads Up” on which version out performs the other. Just remember, a Heads Up doesn’t have a winner or a loser – they’re designed to give our members a “Heads Up” on which version performs better on games that might have slipped through the cracks. In short, our members are the judge and jury on which version is the best. Heads Up winners and losers can be found on our Head2Head Index page. Check out the analysis below and enjoy.
Below are the video and the frame analysis stats.

Ps3 wins
PS3 tears more = win?
Herp derp.
–==–
Anyway small victory for X360 in this game.
Also confirmed in other comparisons
eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-dishonored-face-off
“Overall, we’ve little to complain about when it comes to Arkane Studios’ delivery of Dishonored on each platform. The core tenets of its branching stealth gameplay remain intact across the board, and the visuals are tightly pared. If you’re steadfast in your console allegiance, the only considerable negative would be the higher rate of tearing on PS3 – though much of this is mirrored by the 360 version during combat. But if dropped v-sync is something you can overlook, the decision may well come down to controller preference, or even your uses for the PS3′s 5.1LPCM support. Either way, Dishonored easily arrives as a worthwhile proposition on any platform.”

Well I’ve read the DF analysis and now I’ve watched this lazy analysis here and based on those I have to call it a tie. Slightly sharper image but with screen tearing MANDATORY 4 gig install for the PS3 (yes I said it) vs the almost zero tearing, no install, of the Xbox 360. It’s which ever you prefer this time I guess. There’s no real standout THIS time.
I would REALLY like to see the H2H for the new Doom.
Nice and clean responses on this head to head. Good to see a game with pros and cons on each console that balances things out, so kudos to the devs, and good job to the users for keeping this one clean.
I cant complain much about this game. Very civil responses and a game that has clear advantages for each system. Good devs who clearly used the strengths of each system to help the game balance out. Good job.
I don’t have my PS3 anymore so XBOX 360 version for me..:)
OMG, Xbox 360 Epic WINS.
Most of the screen tearing occurred during a cutscene for the PS3 but nevertheless, it should warrant the xbox 360 a slight win in regards to performance.
I’d rather have better textures and AA on the PS3 version than the blurry mess on the 360. Plus DF said the PS3 has a more stable framerate, while the 360 can drop as low as 20fps, so I don’t know how these guys never picked up on that.
Also most of the screen tearing is on cutscenes only.
This comparison is similar to how a previous assassin creed game ran on 360 and ps3.
There was a stagecoach scene that dropped to about 20fps on the 360 as well(higher on ps3), but the overall framerate was slightly smoother during the majority of the game on 360(just as this game seems to be).
PS3 better AA creating a slightly cleaner image, 360 slightly better framerate for the majority of the game and hardly any screen tearing compared to the ps3 version.
DF got it right, it’s a tie.
I would very much like to see a Head2Head for Doom 3: BFG Edition.
I think the PS3 edges this one out. Sure, it suffers from a tiny, tiny frame drop at times and the screen tearing is slightly worse. However the graphical advantage on the PS3 out weigh these minor issues.
Having seen both versions running now, the blur is far harder to see on the 360 version once it’s in motion(really not much difference between the 2).
Screenshots can be very misleading.
It’s a tie.
The ps3 needs to dominate the visuals and performance to get a win, like so many of the epic wins on 360
@Android
Only epic win I see these days is on PC
I won’t disagree with you about the pics on here being often misleading, thats for sure. remember that next time huh?
The PS3 version shows a greater than 10% increase in screen tearing over the X360. There’s nothing slight about that at all. That’s significant, especially considering that the X360 ended up at less than 1/3 of a percentage point of torn frames. Compared to 12.7%? “Slightly worse”? Even without the numbers, that’s some ugly tearing to the naked eye. And this coming from a guy who almost always buys the PS3 version over the X360.
why the f*** did they start doing two separate comparisons for the framerate and the visual quality rather than the whole picture
at the least they could do a conclusion post to vote on for they final say
so they’re aren’t two conflicting vote results, did they all take a nap or something,
anyway the frame rate analysis has been lousy lately i feel they are not using enough data to accurately measure it,ie lazyness
Ive had my say other than that both versions are pretty good but the ps3 has a slight edge with more post processing effects which are becoming more apparent as a strength with every upcoming title,(i like my fog) ihave no doubt it has to do with the spus doing the postprocessing rather than the gpu, the 360 is looking like a more limited system every time
stuck with an old gpu with no way to counter it.with the ps3 there are still things that can be done because of the unique nature of its cpu
its only now 6 f****** years later that dev are realizing it and make use of it.
maybe the turtle will win the race after all,

{where the F*** is that guy)
‘the 360 is looking like a more limited system every time
stuck with an old gpu with no way to counter it.with the ps3 there are still things that can be done because of the unique nature of its cpu’
Both systems are very dated indeed, they can’t even make games playable at full hd.
You do know the ps3 hasn’t won a full face off/h2h in ages though?
Getting beaten constantly by the ‘limited system’ as you call it.
@android123 i know the ps3 hasn’t won in a while (by a very small margin these days),but i more specifically refer to more recently we have seen more little things like the dof in borderlands 2(more load heavy than god rays) and the fog/mist in dishonored or motion blur in battlefield 3,crysis 2 ect, both systems have similar frame rates for alot of these games, the ps3 however because of its unique architecture if utilized properly may not improve the frame rate, but it can add more little stuff without much of a performance hit, where as the 360 has to do all this stuff on the gpu or it would be too slow and take up already precious cpu time and bandwidth, they are both limited but the limits for the 360 have already appeared ,the ps3 has just a little more to give,if you give it more time and money(like a hooker),think about it this way dev wise,360 easy stank ass hoe,ps3 less easy more expensive hoe. it always comes down to time and money
btw where is the no show ?
“the upside is there is more raw performance for computing there than there is on 360″ -John Carmack
The textures on the x360 are terrible. I don’t care about tearing cutscenes considering they’ll make up a small portion of the overall game time.
This is the 1st time I can ever recall that DF and LOT have different outcomes on a H2H.
Also, I picked up the PS3 version of this game based on DF H2H.
i go with better graphics of PS3
Some very level headed remarks in this feedback, its a tie and if i had to choose i would call it for 360, but thats because i hate screen tear, either way we all get to enjoy a cracking game, my game of the year so far.
“Easy win for the Xbox 360″, with the best GPU for the game flow better, simple as that!
That better gpu isn’t helping much with those blurry graphics its it?
Clear 360 win
you mean blurry 360 win.
if i want best graphics in the business, i play uncharted! yes, thats right, best in the business in graphics department!!
Oh what?! PC elitist where’s your butt ugly crysis is now huh?!
HA HA HA HA!!!
lol dude, as an ex ps3 owner, who really did love his ps3 much more than his 360, please have some dignity, there’s no way uncharted 3 is best looking game in gaming, not when up against pc games, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of, when it’s facing off against hardware much more recent and more powerful.
brand new my set up would be in excess of £1200 probably, even minus monitor. i bought my rig (measly amd phenom ii 895 black edition , but looking to upgrade to 17, with 16gb ram and a monitor with asus gtx 570 originally for £450 including a nice monitor and gaming keyboard and wireles 7:1 headphones etc) and card second hand (gtx 590 bought for bargain £180), then sold my 570 for £100 and in total it still is worth more than a ps3 cost brand new 6 years ago.
no wonder pc games look better than console games.
uncharted 3 is one of best looking games this gen, if not the best on consoles, but please dont embarrass yourself and ps3 owners as whole by claiming it’s better looking than games on pc lol
Nice to see you are being sensible for once suarez
Pc is indeed the best way to play modern games, closely followed by the 360 and then ps vita and ps3 in that order(for me anyway).
I’m always sensible Android lol
I really think 360 was best designed hardware last generation, as it was developer friendly , and allowed them to get great looking games easily. It’s os was well designed etc etc
I personally never really clicked with it though. I always preferred PS3 somehow.
From my point of view, the 360 was best hardware, but PS3 was better console. I thought the best looking games and my favourite moments were on ps3(well technically Mario galaxy was best moments lol )
I still maintain, that biggest factors in terms of best/worst version of game, is usually down to engine, the lead format and budget.
@Android123
(“Pc is indeed the best way to play modern games, closely followed by the 360 and then ps vita and ps3 in that order(for me anyway).”)
LMAO… Seeing as how, shitbox has little-to-almost nonexistant exclusives to compare and is only capable of playing multiplats, I can see why you would think that way; Actually, I’m a little surprised to hear you say that, after all, didn’t you try convencing everyone before, that you own a PS3, Android…??? Not that I’m saying, you’re not entitled to your opinion but, clearly, your opinions are of that of someone who’s never played and seen “better” looking console games… …just sayin!!!
By the way, did you ever check out the the new game footage for God of War Ascension and The Last of Us? I’m sure you’re riddled with bonecrushing questions as to why, games can’t look this good on your crappy xbox.
and nice to see you uprooting those PC victorys, by the way…
The ps3 is my least favourite of all my consoles, i’ve never tried to hide that.
Of course it has some good exclusive games, but apart from a few titles(uncharted 2, demons souls, resistance 3, god of war 3 and infamous 2), there’s not been that many to keep me interested.
About the same as on 360 actually(halo, gears of war 3, fable 2, crackdown, forza 4).
But the 360 has that multiplatform advantage on the majority of games and a better selection of downloadable titles.
It’s interesting that you say almost non existant 360 exclusives, if we’re being brutally honest here, there’s been nothing on ps3 for the whole of 2012 worth playing exclusive wise.
Where-as a certain other console recently got the well recieved forza horizons and a certain upcoming title(out any day now)called halo 4.
It’s actually possible that the ps3 could go through an entire year without a single standout exclusive release(which is frankly shocking).
Maybe you can remind me what sony has for the rest of 2012? Surely there’s something i’ve forgotten about.
What’s up guys?
I haven’t been here in ages.
I’m calling a tie on this one.
I just finished building my PC.
Specs:
Cooler Master Blue HAF-X
i7-2700K
Corsair H80 Push-Pull
Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
16GB Corsair Vengeance
EVGA GTX 680 FTW 4GB SLI
1TB HDD SATA III
Seasonic Platinum 1000W
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
PC>360>PS3
Ps3 def looked better, 360 def performed better. Kinda wished they’d put the screenshots together with the performance analysis. Either version seems ok not great thou.
Xbox wins again. Want to know why? Because I said so!!
You are everything that is wrong with modern gaming, and why no one takes gamers seriously. Thank you, you’re the official fanboy retard ruining the fun for the gamers since 1998, which is when i’m guessing you were born… pathetic.
Kind of hilarious that anyone is claiming a PS3 win, or even a tie here.
I almost buy PS3 versions before Xbox 360, but come now. X360 offers 1080p, PS3 version maxes at 720p. 4GB install is required on PS3, not X360. And yet, global FPS better on X360 (nominally), with significantly less screen tearing!
The visual difference between the two is nominal, IMO. We’re not talking Dragon Age: Origins. The better choice is X360, hands down.
Between the two, of course. Cause if it’s me, I’m buying PC.
