Mass Effect 3 PS3 vs. Xbox 360 Analysis Video
Conclusion: Overall it’s clear that the 360 takes the win here. The visual differences are only noticeable in certain areas, but was more polished on the 360 none the less. The performance aspect offers a much smoother experience on Microsoft’s platform while Sony’s PS3 struggles to hold the targeted frame rate when things heat up. And finally the load times showed heavy favor toward the 360, even with the game running off of the disc. We all thought that this one was going to be closer, and for good reason. Unfortunately this just wasn’t the case and we see another one of those games where developers fail at true console parity. What makes it worse is that it was one of the biggest games of this year that had to let us down.

The 360 was the easy choice here. Not only did we see a better performing game on Microsoft’s console, but now I won’t have to split the series up across systems. There’s really not much more to say about it.

Xbox 360 takes the win in this trilogy ender. But even more of a factor for me then the better performance was the fact that I want the trilogy in one place. I own the first two titles on the 360 and will continue the trend here.

I’m going with the 360 here for two reasons. One, because my ME1 and ME2 files were on the 360, so I will continue the pattern to transfer my saves accordingly. Two, because the 360 is hands down the best version of this game. There wasn’t a single category that it wasn’t sporting some kind of advantage and therefore makes my decision that much easier.

That one was easy
LMFAO!!
This was a blowout victory for the SUPERIOR Xbox 360. Better everything!
Just face it Sony Defense Force. The over priced internet ready blu ray player just can’t keep up. PERIOD! BANG!!
Oh and I see play No. 1 from the playbook in these comments. You know the play that blames the developers. LOL
Don’t you think if the over priced internet ready blu ray player could match the SUPERIOR Xbox 360 fidelity they wouldn’t do it? I can see the meeting now…Well let’s make us a block buster multi console game guys and gals. Let’s see..lets call it Mass of all the Effects 4.3…Then a hand goes up and a programmer says…oww can I make the over priced internet ready blu ray player version with muddier textures, shorter draw distances, reduced anti-aliasing, 10 second longer loading times, and 20 fps framerates..PLEASE???.
LMFAO!!!!
Yeah. After 5 years the industry understands the over priced internet ready blu ray player Sony Defense Force. IT JUST CAN’T KEEP UP!! ROFL
This is just too good. The Sony Defense force was out in Mass talking up the over priced internet ready blu ray player for this game!!!! LOL
This result was spot on with what the people outside the Sony Defense Force already knew was going to happen.
Yet ANOTHER victory for the VASTLY SUPERIOR console..Xbox 360 baby!!

@BUYING1999
as much as i agree with “some” of the things you comment states, you tend to “troll” over board and become kinda annoying. hell, i dont even think 4chan has trolls like you.
but your content is right, for the most part as its not the developers fault like some people say its all because of the the budget, game engine of choice, developer tools for each console and most importantly, time.
even developers say both consoles have there pros and cons since one is centered around OpenGL and the other is cored around DirectX (which is universally known to be better than OpenGL anyways i will add) but they will say for the most part there both just as powerful as the other in terms of graphical performance.
if the next generation playstation takes the (superior) hardware design route that pc’s have taken over the past 30 years while the xbox has followed instead of sony using an architectural design that is alien to basically the entire game development industry we may see some games that are the same instead of being here comparing a race car to a speedboat or apples to oranges, if food is your thing.
but fanboys can pick there posion, i like the 360 because xbox live is superior in ways that the the psn doesnt have even something to compete with, and not to mention live just got better December 6th 2011 since i have Verizon fios and can watch live tv and other goodies that are completely absent from the ps3 whenever i want.
i love this website
Buying1999 you really do sound pathetic! When was the last time you saw the sun?
@SilentJoe68za
LMFAO at you. Here you have it ladies and gents. Right on que too. Sony Defense Force play No.2 “When the INFERIORITY of the over priced internet ready blu ray player has been exposed resort to personal attack.” Great implementation of that play there SilentJoe68za. But NOTHING to refute the INFERIORITY of the overpriced internet ready blu ray player in that comment. I mean, you do read the head to heads right? If so then you’d know that 99% of them are won by the SUPERIOR Xbox 360. I wonder which play you’ll use next?
“Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made.” –John Carmack
Buying you are such a tool. Nice way to jump to conclusions! Own both systems, already bought and playing ME3 on 360! Wasn’t even trying to defend sony’s console, i mean, you do actually read the post’s below the head to heads on this very site, right! LOL! Nothing in my comment showed fanboyism! Simply stated your same old boring, lame and self-gratifying catch phrases are now old and redundant! Goodbye!
Even though I’m partial to the PS3 I’m not going to deny the fact that the Xbox 360 has won the console wars for this generation. The proof is in whats been produced over the years. Sony was stupid to not take into consideration how difficult the setup of the PS3 is for devs and that’s been the downfall of the PS3 in terms of getting the most out of the power of the PS3 system. I think PS3 exclusives are much better than 360 ones but when it comes down too multi platform releases I know that 99% of the time that the 360 version will look and perform better. It doesn’t matter that the PS3 has more potential, the deadlines these developers have to meet make it nearly impossible for them too put forth their best effort on the ps3 because of how tedious it is to develop for. Microsoft designed their system to be developer friendly knowing that the Xbox users would be the benefactors.
Xbox 360 wins the 7th generation console wars, how many more of these comparisons need to happen before everyone acknowledges the truth?
@ Buying? Do You even realize that EVERYONE on this site laughs at You. We literally laugh at You. You are either very very very very biased and blind, or you are trolling. Either way, that’s a pretty sad existence. You’re entire life consists of arguing about which 5-7 year old colsole is better? LOLOLOLOL. You, my friend, have no life. LOLOLOLOL. Wow is all I can say. I’d make fun of you, but everyone else already does, so I’ll just say wow. You are a blind, raging, flaming, ridiculous FANBOY. The PS3 and the 360 are very close. REAL GAMERS can enjoy both. Raging fanboys pick one. I hope you enjoy swapping your disc back and forth on that SUPERIOR TECH. LOL. I can only imagine what you look like LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOL. You are a sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, excuse of a gamer. Very sad.
Agreed, a total win for the Xbox 360 version, im sorry for the PS3 user, but the UE almost everytime runs and looks better on 360.
Despite of this, u must play this game, sepcially if u have played the first and second, im still on the 20 hours or so and all i can say is “Fu#$ this is a good game
”.
My congratulations to Bioware for making one of the best Games of this generation if not the best.
I have read a few who bought the psn digital download version are not having issues . But I would like someone to confirm this . Because the performance other wise looks very sad on the ps3.
Epic victory for the 360 on what is likely the best cross-platform game of the year.
Skyrim last year and now Mass effect 3, nothing has changed.
The 360 is still the cross platform king when it comes to consoles.
The 360 still has a big advantage whether vsync is on or off on this game.
Maybe they should have dropped vsync completely from the ps3 version as it can’t seem to handle the pace
Great game though.
Sorry Android, you forgot FF XIII-2. It performs like junk in the X360. Not to mention that it has been dumbed down due to the junky DVD player. Oh, perfectly vsinced in the PS3…
Michelasso… nobody cares about FF XIII/XIII-2. Also, it’s not cool to brag about games being perfectly “vsinced” as in reality, vsyncing blows. I always disable it on my computer and maintain 120 FPS without any screen tearing on my 120Hz monitor. Sucks to be a console fanboy of either type bahahahaha. GO AHEAD AND THUMB DOWN YOUR PC OVERLORDS, YOU KNOW IT TO BE TRUE. UJELLY?
JCBULLEN the lack of great games like Final Fantasy (6 millions copies sold for FF XIII. I’d hardy say that “nobody cares”) is the first reason why I despise PC gaming. Once the PC will have the same amount of great exclusives (both PS3 and console exclusives) give me a call. Sure the multiplatform games play and look better on PC. But that will be fixed with the next console generation. The lack of games for PC won’t. Do you dig me? DO YOU DIG ME?
Im surprised Bioware couldnt get the PS3 version up to scratch.
Ps3 for the exclusives, 360 for the superior multiplatform-games = win
Bioware aren’t renowned as being great technical developers tbh, and even mass.effect 1 & 2 on 360 aren’t great.technical achievements ( nor 3 , if we brutally honest), so suppose we were asking too much to get a very good port..i.have suspicion most the fault lies with EA and a refusal to.give Bio Ware the time and money needed, but that’s evil publishers for you.
Can’t say I personally care, as have no interest in it (managed 2.hours with me2 & was bored senseless), but it’s a shame that they.couldn’t make a better port than this.
Definitely a.series best played on 360 (or not at all, if you’re me, but then me and rpg’s just don’t get on, as I hate making ridiculous conversations with.characters)
I actually purchased Mass Effect on Steam when it was like 5~2bucks on its mid/weekend sale two weeks before ME2 came out to see what everyone was talking about. When ME2 launched I was at GameStop at midnight for my ME2 CE PC version and enjoyed the daylights out of it.
When ME2 relaunched a year or so later on the PS3 I picked it up since I didn’t at that point purchase any of the DLC for it and at 49.99 it was great value for my dollar. And…..the controller aspect of the game sucks. Not only that I picked up ME2 for the Xbox at 9.99 and the controller just ruins the game.
If at anything the ME series is more complete on the Xbox since you can get all your DLC at one place. However I have to say this game series is best played on the PC. Easy and in depth control function of the squad and menu, simple simple key setup (seriously all you have to do is right click, left click, scroll wheel for weapon change, space bar and the E key) and the low system spec requirement needed for the Unreal Engine makes this game a no brainier for the PC.
Proud owner of PC ME1, PC ME2 CE, PC ME3 CE, PS3 ME2, PS3 ME3 CE, and Xbox 360 ME2.
Not surprising Mass Effect 2 also has some issues with frame rate and loading time so it’s not as surprising to see Mass Effect 3 suffers from essentially the same thing. I do think however that if they patched in a partial install it would help with load times.
Voted PS3!
1 disc >>>>>> 2 discs
DUAL SHOCK D-PAD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Xbawks D-PAD
2 fast discs (which as a bonus can be installed to the HDD completely)>>>>>>>1 Slow 2x speed blu-ray
Xbox 360′s superior controllers transforming D-Pad>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PS3′s poorly designed controller (which has made no improvement in ergonomic design in almost 2 decades)
Shame on you sony for making your (branwashed) customers use a wonky controller that almost guarantees aching hands and carpal tunnel syndrome, shame on you!
*i wonder how many PS3 fanboys are gonna “thumbs down” my comment*
“Xbox 360′s superior controllers transforming D-Pad”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
I guess it’s a robot in disguise that needs better grammar software.
Users over on Eurogamer have been saying that the first scene is the worst for frame rates, and that generally it’s ok, but not perfect either.
Lets be honest, it’s hardly a technical wonder on either machine, and the main emphasis of this game is the story(it sure as heck aint the geat control mechanics, if no 2 is anything to go by ), so if the frame rate is not horrendous, ps3 users into series should just make most of bad deal.
Chaswwarden, behave son, as much as I dont particularly like 360 controller and am not partial to disk changes, framerate should be a priority
God how shit the graphics look on both of these consoles not to mention the environment looks completely lifeless.
may i suggest you visit an optometrist?
oh, and people are dying in this video comparison where aliens might i add are invading earth to kill them, hence the “lifeless environment” that bioware was going for, they apparently did well and hit their mark.
but i really do recommend you visit someone who can help you with those obviously poorly functional grapes that are on both sides of your nose because these graphics are boss.
I agree. The graphics looks embarrasing and the characters faces doesn´t show much emotion. I even think Mafia 2 on the ps3 has better graphics. It´s sad when the SUPERIOR 360 must be held back by the INFERIOR ps3.
How can Casey Hudson said “you will not see the different between two console”?
The graphic in xbox 360 vision is far way superior than ps3 vision !!! (Demo)
I glad I get xbox 360 vision Mass effect 3
OK”i did end up getting this for the 360 and carrying on the trilogy on the machine but i would like to add that the crushed blacks on the 360 are awful and you cant adjust them with the gamma or brightness as it makes the game look worse, and apart from the framerate problems on ps3 the shadowing and lighting is better on the ps3 so i think lenz was a little harsh on the station there, ether way if you buy this on the station or the box your gona have a great gameing experiance.
I am outraged!
They made this H2H already for ME3 and they still haven’t made H2H for Amalur!!!
And they don’t respond to forum posts, or email directly to them!!
WHAT GIVES?!?!
I agree, Amalur, Amalur, Amalur!
This was never a surprise. They thought it was a great idea to remove the install on ps3, there were already issues with Mass Effect 2 on PS3, and they seem to stick with the line of thinking that porting from 360 to PS3 is the smartest idea. -__-
So, BioWare gave the PS3 version the shaft. Heh, I guess introducing the series to the system was only a mean for them to make some easy profit with their laughable half-baked efforts, huh?
well at least its not an exclusive to pc and xbox like it was set out to be, do you have to cry about everything?
Here’s the situation:
An Xbox 360-only owner and a PS3-only owner both have to pay the same price the freaking game. One gets to have enjoyable experience while the other gets, let’s say, a more irritating experience. They both pay the same price so why do one have to suffer because the devs can’t handle an adequate port? For the love of God, this is 2012, there shouldn’t even be this much of a difference between the console versions anymore.
What? Should we just look past the “bads” and simply enjoy the “goods”? That’s like saying my sister just got molested but at least she wasn’t raped so let’s not make a big deal out it. The more we keep quiet the issue, the worse it’s gonna get.
Also, what does it matter that the game is no longer exclusive to PC and Xbox 360? That’s freaking irrelevant! Hell, the devs shouldn’t even be bothered bringing the series to the PS3 in first place if they’re too incompetent to handle the porting process.
The xbox wins this one unfortunatly the droped framerate gets annoying. They should have made this game in sub HD for the PS3- I would rather play a game that runs well rather than having amazing graphics. Don’t get me wrong though I love my PS3 more than my broken Xbox 360. The PS3 has funner exclusives and rarely wins in graphics but when it does it tops superior over the xbox 360. The most noticable difference between the two console is that the PS3 has smoother AI-for example take Killzone 3 (botzone or campaign) the movement of your enemies was smooth and felt like I was playing online against real players.
-Online Kings are Starhawk, Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3
LOL! I kinda thought there going to fix this by now… Way to screw over the ps3 guys, BioWare n Bethesda, MASTERS OF THE PS3 SYSTEM! (sarcasm)…
consoles have never been those devs priority anyways, in fact they could have easily have never been on the ps3 period. plus miltiplatform games tend to sell more on the 360. should developers spend all their budget on a version that wont make them as much money plus shareholders control most of what goes on so if you want to have an opinion thats actually worth more than 2 pennies, buy some stock in these companies or stop complaining and play the game, which im sure you doing.
The PS3 version has the better graphics because it is a much more powerful machine
LOL yeah OK. You obviously don’t read the head to heads on this very site. ROFL
Hopefully you were being sarcastic.
“Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made.
come on bioware…you did an exellent job on ME2 wtf happened?…kinect?
The PS3 version is good guys, the framerate dips is not everywhere,12 hours played now and only dips at some places! I really enjoy the game. It’s really not a shitty port like Bayonetta,RDR,etc…. The game is awesome! Dont worry about dips cuz it’s not critical! And Xbox version have some dips too, less for sure but still! It’s my best ME in the trilogy so far!
The graphics, gameplay, story is better than ME2! A masterpiece for me
Like i said, the dips are minimal and really not everywhere! No blur and the AA is excellent!
The “My system is better than Yours” argument is sooooooooooo old its sad. I own both systems because I’m a gamer, not a fanboy. I feel bad for fanboys. Missing out on some good games being so biased. Ya, ME3 looks better on Xbox, but not playing the PS3 or Xbox because of my “alliance” is sad, pathetic, and childish.
Honestly can’t say I like the series… Played ME2 on PS3 and found it to be complete overhyped dog sh*t, but I platinumed it. So if I ever do buy Mass ESh*t 3, it’ll be on PS3.
It’s very sad that this kind of game doesn’t work in PS3 as it’s supposed to be. I just starting loving the game, and I started playing ME2 and I’m playing it in my Laptop with 1GB video card. the thing is this game should be given the best development in each console to take the best advantage of each of them. PS3 has its strength as well as Xbox360 .
Yet we end up getting version better than the other. PS3 fans should get what they pay for it, and Xbox360 fan should stop all of that downgrading the PS3 as well as underestimate its power.
Any how I loved that game and hope they fix it >
You hated ME2 but went to the trouble to get a platinum on it?
That sounds like you have a love for the game but feel the need to knock the series because of this shocking ps3 port
Get a 360 and play it how it was meant to be played on console, or better still get a decent pc gaming machine and play it at 60fps all the way
To be honest, Android, I was very excited when I heard ME2 was hitting the PS3. It seemed to have a very high reputation, so I bought it Day 1 and not only did the game not meet my expectations, I found it just downright sh*tty. Horrible graphics, horrible AI, bad voice acting, uninteresting story, linear as hell for an RPG, and everything in the gameplay from the shooting to the squad mechanics is an copy and paste of the SOCOM series. The only reason why I got the platinum is because I spent $60 on the turd, and the platinum was fairly easy (although the suicide mission was fairly annoying). The game and the series as a while sucks. It’s overrated garbage.
Agree with DIALGA.
ME2 was not a good entry point for ps3 users. all my friends with ME1 on xbox 360 were hyping it up big time.
An RPG? seriously? how the heck is ME an RPG. well, the 1st looks to be one but the first hour and a half of ME2 certainly didn’t feel like one.
I feel ME is a series mostly overrated by xbox owners, as they cherish their old title. it seriously just plays like a gears clone (with inferior gameplay) in space. which isnt that good, as i have heard ME3′s story and ending are about as pitiful as a Gears of war one.
All i’m trying to say is, PS3 owners had Resistance 1,2 Uncharted 1 (2 just round the corner), killzone 2, MGS4 and they were expected to adopt this shitty so called RPG series with everything being inferior to what ps3 users had tried? EA/BIOWARE = MEH
Agree with ANDROID you guys are a little off. I know BioWare has fallen from gaming grace but the Mass Effect series as a WHOLE imo is probably thee best trilogy this generation. I really hope for more games like this where my choices in the previous game actually fucking matters and isn’t just some stupid ass stamp for that game only.
or you can get both consoles (like me) and be set for whatever bad ass titles that hits the shelves.
until pc’s get the newest titles like halo, uncharted, killzone and gears, the pc will always remain a platform only good for browsing the web and watching pornography. this is a console website anyways, a site where we watch in amazement as devs push these electronic devices over half a decade old and deliver graphics boasting games. do you have a 6 year old pc that can actually run games this beautiful, no.
Except some dips here and there, everything else is wonderful and run very well om PS3! I’ll never exchange my copy!
Seriously guys, the game runs fine! Epic game…..
No joke! You can`t go wrong by purchasing it on PS3!
Typical xbox fanboys @johngamer512087 >>> aawww it looks way far way superior !!! no offense are seriously blind !? or did u come here again to throw your anger against PS3 … ,
First of all this game looks like shit on all the platforms Except the Character models and some lighting effects, other than ME3 is disappointing in terms of graphics, personally i’d say gears3 looks much better than this shit on xbox,
- The game in terms of graphics looks almost identical except some minor parts where textures are slightly sharper on xbox.in terms performance is absolutely better on xbox even though the PS version is completely playable but again this proves that how LAzy ass these devs are that they don’t want to spend more time to optimize their game across other platforms properly .
- Pls for those who think xbox is superior pls stfu cuz clearly u have no f***ing idea what yo talkin about … the only reason that around %60 of the cross platform looks slightly better on xbox is because xbox uses the intel x86 architecture which is like the normal computers and developing games for this architecture is peace of cake BUT this does not mean that xbox is more advanced/superior that ps3.(ex: CODzz/MW3)
- developers that make games looks better on xbox can have 3 simple reason for their port method 1.they somehow got sponsored by Microsoft so they will not pay extra attention for optimizing their games for ps3, 2.is because of their lazy asses that just want fast cash for their games so again they wont give f*** to PS3 version since most of their Buyers are from US and most of the US have xbox.(ex: skyrim) 3.they really not aware of all ps3 tech’s features and how to take full advantage from them.
As the time passes more developers start to take advantage from PS3 hardware thats why in the past couple of years we can see more identical cross platform games and many games that are superior that their xbox version.
regardless of platform, the ending sucks, so you’re going to be pissed no matter what lol
Currently playing this on 360. To be honest , I thought the second mass effect game had much better design and graphics. Seeing as the ps3 version of ME2 was mostly comparable to its 360 counterpart , this is a big fail by bioware. BTW HAIL XBOX 360 BITCHEZ! Never doubted that the SUPERIOR 360 would win. Go cry , gaystation 3 fanboys. rofl
well i expected this game to have some issues on the ps3, its the newest unreal engine and not only does the engine run better on the 360 its also the first time unreal engine 3 has been used on the ps3 if im not mistaken.
but i mainly blame sony’s dev kit for this, from what developers say in interviews its not a DX friendly set of tools to work with and rejects most multiplatform engines which is why in guessing that mass effect 2 on the ps3 didn’t use the same engine as the 360 version.
Does anyone else notice the 360 version is plagued by crushed blacks? Tons of lost detail in almost every shot.
Boy am I glad I started and own the whole trilogy on PC. Sure, console-wise the 360 version is far superior to the Ps3 version, but none comes even close to the PC version.
It’s even better played with M/KB controls and the custom UI looks way better. On PC the trilogy truly shines as UE3 is the perfect PC-engne. 60FPS@WUXGA (192×1200) resolution are a treat.
The $hitbox version si way too dark adn loses half the detail. Framerate is only bad for the first area on Earth and after that it runs extremely smooth.
The $hitbox version loses by default based on teh dact that it comes on two discs that you need to swap every five minutes and you’ll be lucky if you even get to play it without ur system RROD
the hell are you talking about? changing discs every 5 minutes, more like once a week and once you boot ANY game up for the first time it pulls up a contrast/brightness adjustment screen and then its all set (unless you get a new tv)
RROD, seems like some myth to me. i have personally never seen it myself and i have had my xbox 360 since launch day, had no problems whatsoever since.
but my ps3 on the other hand has had YLOD, which i had to pay sony $175 to fix (which took a month to do) then i had to cancel my credit card after the network got hacked (which might i add has never happened to xbox live) which kept me from enjoying multiplayer for almost 2 months, but sony did offer 2 games from a 5 game selection, which practically EVERY gamer already had.
I had a feeling that nothing would change from the demo version. ME2 was so good on PS3 because Bioware had an extra year to get it right. They should have spent more time optimizing the game for PS3 instead of shooting copies into space.
by “so good” you mean similar issues the the ps3 version of ME3?
it only looked better than me2 on the 360 because it used the “mass effect 3 engine”, which might i add mass effect 3 doesn’t even use now.
and agreed, the space copies was a waste but still and interesting promotional event. but the cost of a few weather balloons and game copies is nothing compared to the salaries of the developers who would have to work on the ps3 port to make it better.
developers view everything from a time, money and quality standpoint. its not so cut and dry like most gamers think because something as simple as a game release can make or break any of these companies.
@NOVA:
Mass Effect 2 used the same engine as Mass Effect 3. Several other games have also used the Unreal engine on the PS3. Some examples are the Batman games, Unreal Tournament, Enslaved, Mirror’s Edge, Mortal Kombat, Asura’s Wrath, and many more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games
Just figued I would let you know, since I have nothing better to do at this time…lol!
That’s a clear “victory” for the 360. Now I have yet to play ME3 but judging from ME1 & Me2 this will be one really crappy game! ME1 is one of the worst games I’ve ever played and ME2 was only decent! So really it’s a loss for both consoles!
In addition to that last year we also got the 2nd best game of the year, Killzone 3, and the best console version of Skyrim, the 3rd best game of the year. And of course the best game last year was Portal 2.
Overall though the PS3 is holding a MASSIVE lead with the best game of all time, Portal 2, being much better on PS3 & the best game of the year so far being a PS3 exclusive, the wonderful game Journey.
Best version of skyrim lol, i’m giving you the thumbs up for delusion alone.
Portal 2 doesn’t hold a candle to skyrim, batman arkham asylum or mass effect 3(all better on 360)
Portal 2 was actually identicle on both consoles except the blurrier 360 visuals(due to fatty gabe ensuring he optimised one version).
Face it, the 360 is still hammering the ps3 and bringing up the oldie portal 2 isn’t going to change any of that
PS3 version of protal 2 also came with steamworks support. also had better visuals (as mentioned by you, no crappy blur), and it came with a free version of the pc portal 2. EPIC win, as you’d say.
I only recently (a week ago) layed the demo of the original portal. I loved it. now i can see why a ‘stupid puzzle game’ from last year is so highly rated. count me in as the newest portal fan.
and besides, thats microsofts fault for shafting Valve. you shaft Valve, Valve shaft you.
Just a correction, I meant batman arkham city of course, not arkham asylum.
Despite preferring the older original(slightly).
Can’t agree less, portal 2 its much better game and far more original too, but they like I said, I hate rpg’s. The weird thing, that me series has become less popular with fans of original game with every instalment, and instead become gears of war in space as i’ve heard it termed.
The critics have applauded it overall, but many players don’t, and its of course got it’s now compulsory in gaming world glitches and faults.
skyrim and me.both have poor controls in combat, and if I want to watch mindless dialogue, I’ll watch a soap opera , arkham..city is great game, but original it isn’t, and is just more of same. Portal 2 is regarded by many as best game for originality, it’s story, and an overall package. However, why we discussing it now and here lol
Me it’s best on 360 end of story, ps3 generally gets the worst end of stick in multi plats, in.varying degrees, and ps3 usually look better than 360 exclusives or multiplats. Now, shut up and either play me3 or don’t, i’m opting for latter
Oh rly? I’m playing Skyrim with very smooth framerate, NO screen tearing, very quick loading times, surround sound and almost no jaggies. Now look at the crappy 360 version and it’s the opposite!
Portal 2 destroys them all(haven’t played Batman yet though). And the only one of those games that are actually better on 360 is the catastrophe of a “game” Mass Effect 3. Both Batman AA and Skyrim are superior on PS3
You forgot the worse AA and the steam support on PS3. Which was a huge advantage that I could play with my steam buddies.
“hammering”?? Are you really that desperate? Was the PS3 “hammering” the 360 when it won DNF and Brink? It’s on the same level as bringing up Mass Effect.
LOL ps3fanboy, you know when someone thinks the ps3 skyrim is better than the 360 version that their levels of delusion has reached a point of no return
Brink and duke nukem? those game were pure garbage compared to the ones i mentioned.
At least bring up half decent games like la noire and driver that the ps3 won if you want to try to compare ps3 wins to the mighty 360 victories of recent times
You’re not doing yourself any favors here by resorting to ad hominem. There is no basis for your empty statement. I presented arguments why the PS3 is the obvious choice. You not being able to present a counter-argument only further proves the PS3′s superiority.
Brink & DNF>>>>>>Mass Effect. You’re right they are crap compared to Skyrim and Batman AA(both better on PS3), but compared to the crap series Mass Effect they’re divine. I should be telling you if you want to try to compare 360 wins to the mighty PS3 victories of recent times at least bring up half decent game such as uh… uhm… well you get my point, not crap games like Mass Effect.
I don’t need to present a counter-argument, the h2h’s and face off’s and various other articles regarding skyrim etc have done it all for me.
I suppose you could find skyrim better on ps3 if you prefer lower framerates, worse blurrier graphics and more pop in.
Maybe that’s the same reason why you prefer batman on ps3
Talk about double standards. According to the H2H Batman AA was better. So I you wanna use the H2H as “proof” then do it in both cases.
Though I do prefer that compared to extreme screen tearing, long loading times, Jaggies and inferior sounds.
You’d better stay away from eurogamer’s conclusion about Batman AA then, a game that got the win in the face off on 360(better graphics and framerate, what a surprise
Why are we talking about a game that is even older than portal 2 anyway?
Arkham city was even more of a technically impressive game(again like Arkham asylum, better on 360)
What a fine example of cherry picking. Cause according to LoT (the very site we are having this discussing) BAA was a PS3 win whereas BAC was a TIE according to EG DF. Make up your mind already. Talk about grasping for straws.
Actually they favoured the 360 version of arkham city, better framerate and less screen tearing if I remember correctly.
Nothing wrong with the ps3 version though, but these things have to be mentioned.
They said those issues has negligible impact and the PS3 had an advantage when it came to visuals, resulting in an overall tie. In any case it wouldn’t change my point that you’re cherry picking and grasping for straws.
Grasping for straws :O
Says the person who thinks skyrim is better on ps3
We’re never going to agree on Arkham city it seems, but there are certainly no improved graphics on the ps3 version. Some differences yes, but nothing more.
If you think the lower framerate and more screen tearing has negligible impact on the ps3 version, then look at DF’s summing up of the visuals:
The good news is that both Xbox 360 and PlayStation games come highly recommended, and the graphical differences have no meaningful impact on either the overall look of the game or the gameplay.
I haven’t been cherry picking between comparison websites at least which. Skyrim is simply better played on PS3.
They also said just below:
“The frame-rate drops, although more noticeable on the PS3 aren’t exactly a big deal and the additional tearing we see on the Sony platform didn’t affect our enjoyment of the game.”
Which means both the graphical differences AND performance differences are negligible just as I said. And the result is tie.
Arkham city is indeed very close but there are no real advantages regarding the ps3 version.
The lower framerate and more screen tearing may not hurt the ps3 version, but there’s no doubt what version has more positives(not the ps3 version).
Welcome to most multiplatform games these days where the winner is decided by the slightest thing
LOT got it spot on with their h2h(a clean sweep by the staff for the 360 version).
“In terms of texture pop-in, the experience on both platforms is mostly similar, but the PS3′s streaming appears to be slightly better.”
“Curiously, edge shimmering on some sub-pixel elements appears to be less evident on the PS3 in places.”
Also the 360 version has blur issues in 3D
Ah the edge shimmering that was a little less noticeable on the ps3 because of a brighter gamma setting, hardly an improvement.
As i said, there are no real ps3 graphical improvements, just some differences.
Exactly like the 360 advantage ‘ shadows can appear a bit jagged on the characters on the Sony platform ‘
Hardly worth talking about.
The framerate and screen tearing though, that’s a different matter all together
Yes it is. DF didn’t seem to know the reason but SUSPECTED it was because of the gamma on the PS3 and more intensive bloom on 360. Regardless of the reason shimmering is something that you’d want to avoid and brings down the visual quality.
And no the performance issues is hardly worth talking about either. As I said it was a negligible difference just like the visuals. IF you’re going by what DF said.
So we’ve agreed that digital foundry said it was close but had slightly more ‘important’;) positives on 360.
Now what about LOT? Who were even more glowing in their 360 praise compared to the ps3 version.
What excuses are you going to make about their conclusion of Arkham city?
All the staff went for the 360 version i’d like to point out.
At least we’re keeping this thread alive i guess with our off topic bickering
no lol we agree it was close nothing more. Close enough to be a tie according to themselves it seems.
And I know LoT gave the win to 360. That’s the whole point. That you’re cherry picking, cause they also gave a win to the PS3 with Batman AA.
LOL PS3fanboy, are you for real?
I’ll be getting this game for 360 since I hate choppy framerate. Too bad there’s nothing we can do with crushed blacks.
Like Richie wrote you can’t turn brightness up b/c game looks worse that way
ADjust youre tv settings or turn up gamma/brightness.. hardly a difference besides is pretty choppy at times .. anyway great game no doubt no matter platform.
The Xbox 360 owners will have to go to the TV setting to deal with the high contrast ….
and for the ps3 users they can go to the hidden menu pressing the power buttom for 360 seconds and enable/disable the choppy framerate.
Now seriously,
i assume that they played ME2 in Ps3…so, i would say choose Ps3. But on the other hand the framerate is awful…so ps3 owners are fucked up. they just have to deal with it if they wish to enjoy the last chapter of ME trilogy.
But don’t buy ME3 for the Xbox 360 if you played ME2 on the other console.
Thank God i played ME1-2 on Xbox.
PD: We can’t always get what we want
Xbox 360 the machine of choice for multiplats (most of which availablwe on the superior PC)
PS3 by far the best for exclusives (of which there are many masterpieces)
Choose your poison
Neither machine can lay claim to being the superior one.
PS3 is better for multiplats since all the GOOD multiplats are better on PS3. For example the amazing Portal 2 and the decent Skyrim!
Skyrim…are you FFFFFFFFFFFFFFOOOOOOOOOOREAL?
Skyrim was crap on the Xbox 360 and even bigger pile of crap on the PS3. And the Crap and flawed and jesus I don’t feel like I’m doing anything combat system.
Great story but the game mechanics in the Elder Scroll games needs a huge ass overhaul.
I agree it was crap on 360 but it’s perfectly fine on the PS3.
ps3fanboy seriously .. you might wanna check the h2h list .. what a massive facepalm .. are u serious i mean really GTFO..
lol, superior exclusives seriously cows have been grasping straws lately across pretty many sites.. ofc there are a few great titles like uc and cow .. but really nothing more and a linear singlerplayer experience with action cut-scenes after you done thats about it .. imo
ps: yes they are awesome, but once completed ye not much going back too. and sorry to burst that bubble of yours but if you should claim ownage with exclusives the pc is the way to go..
ME3 rock on PS3! I have 14 hours played and the framerate is solid where i am right now! Impressive cuz this mission have a lot of action with everything’s moving around Shepard.A lot of monsters with your partners shooting and everything and no dips?? Weird that it dips only in some area and like i’ve said,it’s rare and not critical! So far the graphics are beautiful man
@NEONSHADOW
no, mass effect 2 uses the ME2 engine (mass efect 2 engine) which was a game specific engine built off the unreal engine 2, it is only categorized as unreal engine by wikipedia (another reason i dont get my sources from wiki’s). a completely different engine was used for the ps3 version (ME3 engine) and was the intended engine to be used for mass effect 3 but bioware saw the unreal engine suitable for the pc on the count of superior DX11 support.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-16-ps3-mass-effect-2-uses-me3-engine
even though the ps3 version of mass effect 2 had a better engine it still had issues similar to its sequel. devs only throw this speculation up by saying things about their ‘incomplete title’ like “both versions will look the same” or “this version will look better because development is going much smother on platform ‘X’”
http://www.unrealengine.com/showcase/mass_effect
http://www.unrealengine.com/showcase/mass_effect_3
Try their own website dude. It uses ue3
it only gets categorized as such for mass effect 1&2 but they are from a technical standpoint not the same as the untouched unreal engine, mass effect uses the untouched unreal engine3 while the others used a modified version of unreal engine 2.0 that was very game specific.
And Lens of truth are supposed to say only the truth lol I think this website is created by Android123 and his family
??? haha
Deathrattlehead and i have been talking and it would be interesting if you guys did another head2head with the Downloadable PS3 version of Mass effect 3 vs a fully installed 360 version. Some have said that the downloadable version of mass effect 3 works much better than the disc version. If you guys don’t want to spend another $60 on the downloadable version you can always get the 1 hour trial off PSN+.
The game runs fine for me! No need to pay an extra 60$ lol but i’ll try the 1 hour trial if i see a difference
@SAMCHEZ77
“Xbox 360 is the machine of choice for multiplats (most of which available on the superior PC).”
Yeah, but consoles are usually purchased because:
1. They’re cheaper than a good gaming PC.
2. They don’t have to be upgraded.
“PS3 is by far the best for exclusives (of which there are many masterpieces).”
That’s nothing more than your opinion bro.
The 360 has some very good exclusives as well.
“Choose your poison.”
The 360 & PS3 cost less than $300 now – get both!
“Neither machine can lay claim to being the superior one.”
Agreed.
I am HIGHLY disappointed in Bioware for not optimizing the code on ME3 for PS3 since I have ME2 on PS3 and it was phenomenal. I’ll still get the PS3 version for my ME2 saved file. But, I feel like just starting all over and getting ME1 & ME2 on XBOX 360. I can’t believe Bioware failed to make ME3 a close parity between both consoles. This is sad.
Only in XBOX 360 or PC you can play all the 3 games with the best graphics / framerate…buy it in the ps3 and you will be sorry.
Im here only to see the ps3 crybabies qqing all over the internet because the best game series of all times runs like sh***t in their “might” ps3 LOL!
Xbox is the best console EVER!
ps3 is only a overpriced bd player.
“best “game” series of all time” lol
I wouldn’t even call it a game in the first place. It’s a decent interactive movie series but not better than that.
@PS3FANBOY
“I wouldn’t even call it a game in the first place. It’s a decent interactive movie series but not better than that.”
oh, so its exactly like the uncharted series then.
Not really. Uncharted has really solid gun play and lots of great set pieces. The combat is actually enjoyable, varied and meaningful and just not fill out inbetween the cut scenes as in Mass Effect.
@PS3FANBOY
“Uncharted has really solid gun play and lots of great set pieces”
-mass effect also has “really solid gunplay” and “lots of great set pieces”. are you sure your playing mass effect3?
“The combat is actually enjoyable”
-so is mass effect, and you can actually control the games plot by your decision unlike the linear uncharted series that makes notoriously linear titles like FFXIII look like an open world game.
No it doesn’t lol. In Mass Effect once you’ve been in a fight you’ve been in them all. I even play on the easiest setting so I can skip through the boring fights as quickly as possible. And yes I’m playing Mass Effect 3. But we’re talking about the entire series here. ME3 is the only one without extremely clunky gun play. It’s still very repetitive and without interesting set pieces.
No it certainly isn’t. It’s extremely tedious for aforementioned reasons. Lol “control the plot”. Good one. It’s an extremely shallow choice system really only giving you an illusion of choice. Most choices has very little impact, if any.
@PS3FANBOY
“In Mass Effect once you’ve been in a fight you’ve been in them all”
~lol, thats why in mass effect there are variables galore that can change the entire fight layout, the uncharted series completely lacked that and felt the same way every playthrough (even made me drowsy at times) no matter what difficulty it was on with AI that often entered retard mode and stared at you while you capped them in the chest.
“I even play on the easiest setting so I can skip through the boring fights as quickly as possible.”
~i play on the harder difficulties because a challenge is the point of these games and the things that make the series great, your either just playing for the story which may not be a plot you like and is nothing more than your opinion.
“It’s still very repetitive and without interesting set pieces.”
~everyone can say the same thing about uncharted, and every other game that isn’t a sandbox game.
“yes I’m playing Mass Effect 3″
~obviously not
“It’s an extremely shallow choice system really only giving you an illusion of choice. Most choices has very little impact, if any.”
~and that’s why there’s like 16 different endings in mass effect3 alone and even more if you carry your character over from the prequels and those had endings and play throughs like snow flakes, no two were alike.
i bet a million dollars your comments along with others bashing this game would drastically change if this game was a ps3 exclusive. hell, thats exactly what happened with ME2′s ps3 version which was made a year after the 360 version and used a newer engine.
uncharted is just over hyped linear gameplay eye candy with puzzles that kindergarteners solve everyday in class. i didn’t notice any AI take cover in any of the uncharted games like i saw in mass effect, so go figure its gonna be an easy game with next to no interaction that gives the same level of entertainment watching someone else play as it does playing it yourself and you wanna say its nothing like mass effect? lol give me a break, i seriously hope your just trolling now and not that full of it.
You might want to elaborate on to the “variables galore” bit. Cause literally it’s the same fight over and over and over again.
And don’t talk about stupid AI. Mass Effect is known to have one of the most stupid AIs out there. As soon as you flank them you can shoot how much you like and they won’t care. And don’t get me started on the friendly AI.
“~i play on the harder difficulties because a challenge is the point of these games and the things that make the series great, your either just playing for the story which may not be a plot you like and is nothing more than your opinion.”
Yeah normally I’d agree. With Uncharted for example I play on the hardest difficulty cause you’re always face new challenges. But facing the same challenge over and over and over again is not so fun. Especially not on harder settings.
“~everyone can say the same thing about uncharted, and every other game that isn’t a sandbox game.”
What are you talking about. Sandbox games are the MOST repetitive most of the times. And in any case you can definitely NOT say the same thing about Uncharted. There are new set pieces constantly and different kind of fights.
“~obviously not”
Yes I’m currently disabling AA guns on Rannoch. I just decided to destroy the Geth base to the dismay of Legion. Or you want me to post a picture of it or something?
“~and that’s why there’s like 16 different endings in mass effect3 alone and even more if you carry your character over from the prequels and those had endings and play throughs like snow flakes, no two were alike.”
I haven’t finished Mass Effect 3 yet but in Mass Effect 2 the ONLY thing that really had any BIG impact was the ending where squad mates would die because. But this was mostly random and not choice really. But in most parts of the games you had three options: Yes, Sure & why not lol. One time I had the option NOT to kill someone or to kill him. I choose not but he got a grand piano in his head the next second lol.
“i bet a million dollars your comments along with others bashing this game would drastically change if this game was a ps3 exclusive. hell, thats exactly what happened with ME2′s ps3 version which was made a year after the 360 version and used a newer engine.”
I think the Infamous series sucks and Uncharted 3 sucks. Also I’m not the least interested in the Resistance series or LBP series. Where’s my million dollars?? And Mass Effect 2 sucks too obviously.
“uncharted is just over hyped linear gameplay eye candy with puzzles that kindergarteners solve everyday in class. i didn’t notice any AI take cover in any of the uncharted games like i saw in mass effect, so go figure its gonna be an easy game with next to no interaction that gives the same level of entertainment watching someone else play as it does playing it yourself and you wanna say its nothing like mass effect? lol give me a break, i seriously hope your just trolling now and not that full of it.”
Linear?? lol Mass Effect is shockingly even MORE linear. Not ME1 of course but it had terrible level design anyway. Yeah the puzzles aren’t that great but if you’re playing it for the puzzles you’re doing it wrong. And I see them take cover way more in Uncharted. And it’s not easy if you play on insane difficulty. How can it be as fun watching when you’re not doing the shooting? Doesn’t make any sense. The difference is that the shooting in Uncharted is extremely solid and fun whereas in Mass Effect it’s incredibly clunky. So you might as well skip it to see the somewhat decent story.
“You might want to elaborate on to the “variables galore” bit”
~woah! well where do i start, there are more weapons in mass effect3 alone than i can count on one hand unlike uncharted where i can count everyone in the series on like 8 fingers. the companions with Shepard (AI) can be given orders (and can even be given those orders with your own voice ONLY on the 360 with kinect. *product placement*) and have their playstyle changed, which its self alone changes the tide of the fight while YOU on the other hand obviously just use the triggers and joysticks when infact there are a wide array of undeniable features in the game, it does have its RPG elements after all.
“it’s the same fight over and over and over again.”
~sounds like that statement fits uncharted like a glove.
“Mass Effect is known to have one of the most stupid AIs out there.”
~thats why hundreds of reviews made by accredited game critics compare the mass affect series AI both enemy and companion to that of a actual live player.
“As soon as you flank them you can shoot how much you like and they won’t care.”
~you just said “i play on easy mode to skip the boring fights” so yeah the enemies will do next to nothing when peppered with bullets.
if you played on a difficulty that actually uses what the AI is capable of you would see that each play thorough and fight is like a snowflake, no two are alike.
“And don’t get me started on the friendly AI.”
~maybe i should, you may come to thank out the box……that your ps3 came in, your not solid snake either.
“With Uncharted for example I play on the hardest difficulty cause you’re always face new challenges.”
~if by “challenge” you mean oblivious enemies that just sit while you sneak around 2 feet away from them, give me a break lol!
“facing the same challenge over and over and over again is not so fun.” Especially not on harder settings.”
~then start playing on a difficulty besides easy, your playing it with AI set at the lowest setting and limited to basic reactions that each different enemy shares yet your expecting a different result from each fight. thats literally the textbook definition of insanity lol!
“What are you talking about. Sandbox games are the MOST repetitive most of the times.”
~What?! the first things sandbox games are built around is ways to change the gameplay for each playthrough. uncharted and even killzone and god of war are the complete opposite and plays the same for one gamer as it does for everyone else in the world who plays it too. there is next to no repetition in sandbox games, play oblivion, GTA, assassins creed and any other game that isnt guided by the developers corridor controll.
“And in any case you can definitely NOT say the same thing about Uncharted. There are new set pieces constantly and different kind of fights.”
i’ve been waiting for like 6 comments for you to tell me these ‘so called’ “new set pieces that change the fight”. im guessing its because they dont exsist, i have played every uncharted game to date (even golden abyss on the Vita) on the normal and hardest difficulty and have yet to see what your talking about.
“~obviously not”
Yes I’m currently disabling AA guns on Rannoch. I just decided to destroy the Geth base to the dismay of Legion. Or you want me to post a picture of it or something?
~on easy im assuming? if its sooooo terrible why are you playing it when you can take it to gamestop or where ever you got it from and get all if not next to all of your money back?
[~and that’s why there’s like 16 different endings in mass effect3 alone and even more if you carry your character over from the prequels and those had endings and play throughs like snow flakes, no two were alike.]
“I haven’t finished Mass Effect 3 yet.”
~then do it and come back here, then again dont. im already prediction your fanboy biased comment because the game is indeed inferior on your platform of choice.
“Mass Effect 2 sucks too obviously”
~yeah it sucked so much it received a 96 with metacritic right beside your little uncharted2′s 96, the highest ANY game on the ps3/360 has received, games that “suck” tend to hover around the lower 70′s and dont get ported to a once neglected platform a year later because it sells like hotcakes on the pc and 360. mass effect 2 was undeniably boss.
“Linear?? lol Mass Effect is shockingly even MORE linear”
~i expect mass effect to be linear for YOU, you already said you play it on easy and from the sounds of your complaints you obviously never use the features the game offers for you to play it with. mass effect has RPG elements and its SO “linear” in fact it has several different endings lol! your just a little bucket of contradictions aren’t you.
“Yeah the puzzles aren’t that great but if you’re playing it for the puzzles you’re doing it wrong.”
~i play games for all aspects and for all they offer. puzzles are in some games one of those aspects and if its lackluster its worth mentioning.
“And it’s not easy if you play on insane difficulty.”
~thanks captain obvious, never noticed that but if your used to playing every game on easy where your trained to combat AI that just stand there and take buckshot to the dome then i expect it to be very hard on insane.
“How can it be as fun watching when you’re not doing the shooting?”
~because shooting is the secondary element in uncharted, according to naughtydog. “we aim for adventure, exploration with a robust story to match” says bruce straley. uncharted has never really received praise for its shooter aspects anyways and mostly gets attention for its story.
“The difference is that the shooting in Uncharted is extremely solid and fun whereas in Mass Effect it’s incredibly clunky”
~yet most people (some who have played every ME game) fail to see this “clunkyness” you speak of, if your the only one talking about it, it becomes nothing more of an opinion you have.
“So you might as well skip it to see the somewhat decent story”
~your logic completely baffles me! why pay money for something your only using and enjoying half of? it makes no sense. i will skip nothing as its enjoyable and is highly praised from everyone but clearly you. you should just stick to J-RPG’s with a core story written by tetsuya nomura if you want a “good story”, and CoD if you want “action”.
then again, nothing pleases fanboys so why bother.
“~woah! well where do i start, there are more weapons in mass effect3 alone than i can count on one hand unlike uncharted where i can count everyone in the series on like 8 fingers. the companions with Shepard (AI) can be given orders (and can even be given those orders with your own voice ONLY on the 360 with kinect. *product placement*) and have their playstyle changed, which its self alone changes the tide of the fight while YOU on the other hand obviously just use the triggers and joysticks when infact there are a wide array of undeniable features in the game, it does have its RPG elements after all.”
Wrong, in Uncharted 2 alone there is close to 20 different weapons. And while there are many weapons in Mass Effect most are very much similar and have an equivalent in Uncharted. I’d say there is almost more diversity in Uncharted in this regard.
Lol sure the companions could’ve been an impactful variable unless the obvious fact that their AI really sucks balls. In Uncharted the AI matters much more cause they’re actually affecting the battle. Not just choosing the worst possible cover and worst choice of enemy to target. Sometimes they just sit doing nothing.
“~sounds like that statement fits uncharted like a glove.”
Not really. New interesting set pieces all the time. Unlike Mass Effect.
“~thats why hundreds of reviews made by accredited game critics compare the mass affect series AI both enemy and companion to that of a actual live player.”
QUOTE:[have seen some really dumb AI in my life and Mass Effect's AI ranks very high on the 'stupid' scale. While AI controlled foes will seek cover all the time, they will happily stand there while you fire a couple of rounds into their sides once you’ve circumvented their position. Oddly enough, both enemy and friendly AI will also attempt to shoot each other while there is an object or wall in the way. Yet the height of the AI's stupidity must be when a member of your squad is standing behind you. They will happily try to shoot at the enemy -through- you. It makes you wonder if this is why friendly fire in Mass Effect does no damage at all. Painful.]
“~you just said “i play on easy mode to skip the boring fights” so yeah the enemies will do next to nothing when peppered with bullets.
if you played on a difficulty that actually uses what the AI is capable of you would see that each play thorough and fight is like a snowflake, no two are alike.”
I did play Mass Effect 1 on easiest. Mass Effect 2 I played my first playthrough on hardest and second playthrough on easiest. In Mass Effect 3 I play on Normal. Same case every time. Really stupid AI. And Mass Effect 3 is still criticised for stupid AI so don’t tell me it’s cause I play on normal.
“~maybe i should, you may come to thank out the box……that your ps3 came in, your not solid snake either.”
What?
“~then start playing on a difficulty besides easy, your playing it with AI set at the lowest setting and limited to basic reactions that each different enemy shares yet your expecting a different result from each fight. thats literally the textbook definition of insanity lol!”
I don’t care about the combat so I don’t expect anything. And what made me realize how much the combat sucks was playing on the hardest difficulty on Mass Effect 2. I never start a game on easy without giving it a chance first. In fact I never play on easy except with this game cause the combat sucks so much, and this is based on hardest difficulty.
“~What?! the first things sandbox games are built around is ways to change the gameplay for each playthrough. uncharted and even killzone and god of war are the complete opposite and plays the same for one gamer as it does for everyone else in the world who plays it too. there is next to no repetition in sandbox games, play oblivion, GTA, assassins creed and any other game that isnt guided by the developers corridor controll.”
I was talking about within one playthrough. Yes Uncharted is the same the second playthrough but it’s much more varied within that playthrough. Sandbox games are usually like this: Go from point A and fetch sometinh at point B and bring it back to point A. Now repeat 100 times. The only non-linearity really is that you choose the order of these identical quests. And don’t talk about Assassin’s Creed. That series is horrendous.
“i’ve been waiting for like 6 comments for you to tell me these ‘so called’ “new set pieces that change the fight”. im guessing its because they dont exsist, i have played every uncharted game to date (even golden abyss on the Vita) on the normal and hardest difficulty and have yet to see what your talking about.”
You never asked. But for example being on a moving train, in a collapsing building, or a moving platform while fighting. This is what I mean with set pieces. Also while in Mass Effect the fighting takes place literally in corridors most of the time whereas in Uncharted it’s more of an arena. a 3 dimensional one at that. I know in mass effect you finally move at the y axis a bit but still it’s not close to Uncharted and it’s not like this at all for the majority of the series. The point is this creates much more room for maneuver in Uncharted and the ability to create more varied battles and different enemy choices in different locations. It isn’t just first cannibals then some marauders and then a brute to top it off. It’s more mixture as a real fight and adjusted to the current situation which again may vary depending on how the battlefield looks. Which again is more varied because of the more extensively used third dimension and arena like battlefields.
“~on easy im assuming? if its sooooo terrible why are you playing it when you can take it to gamestop or where ever you got it from and get all if not next to all of your money back?”
No normal. And I play it because I want to look at all different planets. Unfortunately Bioware disapointed me here too and showing they have very little imagination. Anyway I don’t return games in most cases. Rannoch was just arizona really and the sky was just a small segment of stars copy pasted over the whole sky. WTF? They’re really that lazy? Just one example.
I still keep games even worse than this.
“~then do it and come back here, then again dont. im already prediction your fanboy biased comment because the game is indeed inferior on your platform of choice.”
Not really. Mass Effect 2 was a tie and it wasn’t a better game. And I played Mass Effect 1 on PC and it was the worst of them all.
“~yeah it sucked so much it received a 96 with metacritic right beside your little uncharted2′s 96, the highest ANY game on the ps3/360 has received, games that “suck” tend to hover around the lower 70′s and dont get ported to a once neglected platform a year later because it sells like hotcakes on the pc and 360. mass effect 2 was undeniably boss.”
No it sucked. According to your logic Twilight is the best movie of all times. And no it is NOT the highest rated game on PS3/360. it’s GTA4. And also COD gets good reviews. And it’s trash obviously.
“~i expect mass effect to be linear for YOU, you already said you play it on easy and from the sounds of your complaints you obviously never use the features the game offers for you to play it with. mass effect has RPG elements and its SO “linear” in fact it has several different endings lol! your just a little bucket of contradictions aren’t you.”
What does difficulty has to do with linearity? In any case I wasn’t talking about the story, I was talking about the LEVEL DESIGN. The story telling is still relatively linear but it’s obvious Uncharted is even more. This is not something negative though. It’s just a different approach. But level design wise I feel at least Mass Effect 2 is more linear than Uncharted.
~i play games for all aspects and for all they offer. puzzles are in some games one of those aspects and if its lackluster its worth mentioning.
“I agree they’re nothing special. But they’re alot more fun then playing memory to unlock doors.
“And it’s not easy if you play on insane difficulty.”
“~thanks captain obvious, never noticed that but if your used to playing every game on easy where your trained to combat AI that just stand there and take buckshot to the dome then i expect it to be very hard on insane.”
As I mentioned before this is not the case
“~because shooting is the secondary element in uncharted, according to naughtydog. “we aim for adventure, exploration with a robust story to match” says bruce straley. uncharted has never really received praise for its shooter aspects anyways and mostly gets attention for its story.”
So because some dude said something about something the shooting in Uncharted is not fun? The shooting is extremely solid. At least in Uncharted 2. They messed it up in Uncharted 3 of course but in Uncharted 2 it’s almost perfect. Several leagues above Mass Effect.
“~yet most people (some who have played every ME game) fail to see this “clunkyness” you speak of, if your the only one talking about it, it becomes nothing more of an opinion you have.”
lol this is what Mass Effect 1 is famous for. Bad performance on 360 and extremely bad AI and extremely clunky gun play. And Mass Effect 2 improved it to barely disaster level. Even here on this very page we can see “the action in ME series is rubbish, it’s poor man’s gears of war with worse controls”. So I don’t think I’m the only one.
“~your logic completely baffles me! why pay money for something your only using and enjoying half of? it makes no sense. i will skip nothing as its enjoyable and is highly praised from everyone but clearly you. you should just stick to J-RPG’s with a core story written by tetsuya nomura if you want a “good story”, and CoD if you want “action”.
then again, nothing pleases fanboys so why bother.”
There seem to be alot of things you didn’t enjoy with Uncharted. Talk about double standards. Again I play these games cause I want to see the planets. I’m interested in astronomy and this game is what comes closes to stimulate this interest. If you have any better suggestion I’d gladly hear it cause it feels bad that the only game where I’m actually exploring space is wasted by these noobs. As I said it’s a great concept. It’s just they’re crappy developers. I wished someone else could use this fantastic concept to its full potential.
And I did say the story was pretty decent. And the lore is pretty good too. So now I will not play any stupid JRPGS.
And lol at Mass Effect having 16 different endings. lol.
There is no doubt that this game is to be played in Xbox 360
Skyrim better on ps3 ha ha ha ha ha god my ribs a sore after that one and batman aa or batman ac are both better on Xbox but the skyrim thing my god you ps3 fans are crazy screems of desperation
Aaah the butthurtness is strong in this one. Can’t seem to accept that all the good multiplats are best played on PS3. Don’t worry you still have the best version of Bayonetta to play.
PS3FANBOY, let’s be real. I own the PS3 (only) and I bought Skyrim. At 45% of full price, it wasn’t worth more than that. Until patch 1.04 it plain sucked. And the AA is horrible. Still that was (is) not an HW fault as the dumb Xbots would like us to believe, it was due to many memory leaks and broken scripts. Which simply means the games has been released for PS3 at a beta stage. Now it plays fine. Typical of Bethesda anyway: sell it now, patch it later. And the broken quests are there in all platforms.
What piss me off is that Bethesda still gives all love to the PC version while it is the last (and well behind) in sales. Basically the console players are paying for all the beautiful Bethesda toys the PC pirates are getting for free. Game included.
No it didn’t. I played it and it was perfectly fine. After patch 1.04 it’s even better and far superior to the 360 version. There’s not doubt about it. I play it with a smooth framerate whereas the 360 fanboys have to deal with screen tearing, jaggies, long loading times and inferior sound. The AA is great. Not a jaggie as far as eye can see.
@PS3FANBOY
“The AA is great. Not a jaggie as far as eye can see”
the ps3 version of skyrim uses MLAA if im not mistaken, which is a AA method that along with the removal of jaggies it removes texture quality, promotes texture pop-in, ruins the framerate and cripples the draw distance to almost half which is something crucial for these open world games. not to mention the ps3 versions partial game mandatory install is almost twice the data size than the entire 360 version of the game yet the 360 looks the best of the two. xbox 360′s new XGD3 disc format ftw!
No it uses FXAA and while it’s true it does decrease texture quality slightly it is an exchange I’d happily make to get rid of the jaggies. But it does not cause pop in or framerate issues more than any other AA method.
In any case no the 360 is definitely the worst system to play Skyrim on.
@PS3FANBOY
what i said does apply to FXAA as well.
FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing) is another resource heavy AA method when used on ps3 games only, why? because its not built to have an instruction set that makes it compatible with the ps3′s cell processors SPE’s pixel shader operations like MLAA does. it also doesnt ignore the polygons like its supposed to do when used on pc and 360 hardware which is mainly setup to use a high count unified shader architecture and not the ps3′s 16 dedicated pixle shaders, now the ps3 can run it but with the sacrifice of framerate or draw distance if not both (as shown in the ps3′s skyrim). uncharted3 uses FXAA too but since most of the imaging on the screen is just a simple high resolution backdrop it can handle it.
but in conclusion, it severely reduces draw distance and causes other graphical shortcomings such as an entirely blurred 3D environment as shown in the ps3 version of skyrim here on this website.
devs should just stick with MLAA on ps3 ports like dice did with battlefield3 but then again the ps3 dev tools is one of the most frustration to use so i can see why bethesda took a quicker rout.
also people (especially ps3 fanboys) get the impression the skyrim is better on the ps3 just because oblivion is slightly better on it in comparison to the 360 version, but they seem to forget that the ps3 version of oblivion came exactly a year later and was developed by an entirely different company while skyrim was ported.
Well yeah but none of this doesn’t mean the 360 doesn’t have its own issues. The PS3 doesn’t always achieve a perfect 30 FPS because of reasons you mention but neither does the 360. In addition the 360 version also have a big amount of screen tearing & jaggies, longer load times and inferior sound. And yeah they should use MLAA, it’s much more light on resources and really good at eliminating jaggies.
I never said anything about Oblivion though. I’ve already given my reasons.
@PS3FANBOY
“In addition the 360 version also have a big amount of screen tearing & jaggies, longer load times and inferior sound.”
~7.66% is not “a big amount of screen tearing” at all considering its a bethesda game and the ps3′s “no tearing” is with no doubts because of every texture being blurred to the point of it looking like a ps2 resolution game. the framerate is worse on the ps3 with dips near 20fps, a place the the 360′s version doesn’t go. load times are cut to nearly half the ps3 version with a hdd install, but yes the texture streaming is slowed since the hdd cache pagefile is gone but the partially drawn textures look just as bad as all the blurred textures on the ps3 version and the draw distance on it doesnt make the ps3 version look any better on the count of them popping in every step the player takes.
the audio quality is EXACTLY THE SAME on both versions with identical bitrates and compression levels, the ps3 cannot process audio past 5.1dolby/linear PCM and get any better quality because the source doesnt have those channels.
“And yeah they should use MLAA, it’s much more light on resources and really good at eliminating jaggies.”
~only on the ps3 when its CPU processed its light as a feather. but its not available to every developer because sony locks some multiplatform devs out of features in the ps3 development kit and put a hefty price tag for them to use them all, unless your a 1st party dev of course then you get all the features in trade of those multiplatform profits. FXAA (a GPU processed AA method) works better on the 360 though because the ps3′s RSX has less than half the graphical processing power of the 360′s xenos GPU
“I never said anything about Oblivion though.”
~i did because its throwing this facade up thats making people think the ps3 version looks better just because oblivion on the ps3 did when infact skyrim has worse graphical glitches among other things that make it the inferior version of the two. the 360′s version had very minimal aliasing and z-fighting that most of bethesda games have but in the ps3 version its unacceptable to blur the entire display to mask a couple of aliased textures that 4xMSAA could take care of but then again that is one AA method thats hard to do on the ps3 so bethesda was pretty much stuck with FXAA or no AA like fallout new vegas had, or should i say doesnt have.
It IS a big amount of screen tearing. Even half as much is clearly noticeable. And no again the blur is a result of FXAA and has nothing to do with performance.
PRE-patch the fps difference is 2.3 FPS on average between the consoles. Not a big deal compared to almost 8% screen tear.
If you’d actually played the PS3 version you’d see that’s simply not the case. Yes there is the OCCASIONAL pop in but it’s in fact very rare!
According to EG DF it does have that kind of sound support while 360 only has Dolby.
Are you kidding me?? The blur isn’t even noticeable unless you put them side by side. Compare that to flickering jaggies all the time and the choice is easy.
“It IS a big amount of screen tearing. Even half as much is clearly noticeable. And no again the blur is a result of FXAA and has nothing to do with performance.”
lol, no its not a “big amount of tearing” at all on the 360, its less than any other bethesda game with an open world and is almost unnoticeable. and the blur from the FXAA helps the ps3 hold its performance up because the final rendering has lower quality looking textures to work with, i never said it was caused by the proformance.
“PRE-patch the fps difference is 2.3 FPS on average between the consoles. Not a big deal compared to almost 8% screen tear.”
yeah there is a 2 unit framerate difference average but thats not the entire clip there the ps3 versions framerate resembles the stability of crysis2 where it it shot up and down every second of movement. and no, bethesda has not released a patch for skyrim that improves framerate on either console, only graphical glitches like some draw errors. hell, they haven’t even fixed all the broken quests yet. you can review their updates and what each fixes on their website
“According to EG DF it does have that kind of sound support while 360 only has Dolby.”
no, they both have the same audio channels, bitrate, compression and supported hardware set at 5.1Dolby, 5.1linear PCM and some support for DTS i believe.
“OCCASIONAL pop in but it’s in fact very rare!”
thats why lense of truth themselves said about skyrim “the 360 version will pick up on things much further in the distance than the PS3 will”
and the longer the draw distance means reduced texture pop in as the console has more time to fade the textures in.
“lol, no its not a “big amount of tearing” at all on the 360, its less than any other bethesda game with an open world and is almost unnoticeable. and the blur from the FXAA helps the ps3 hold its performance up because the final rendering has lower quality looking textures to work with, i never said it was caused by the proformance.”
lol “almost unnoticeable”. You even see it clearly in youtube videos. It’s extremely noticeable.
Uh no, it doesn’t. If anything it’s the opposite. Without FXAA the performance would’ve been better. The blur is caused directly by the FXAA and they haven’t actually reduced the texture quality directly.
“yeah there is a 2 unit framerate difference average but thats not the entire clip there the ps3 versions framerate resembles the stability of crysis2 where it it shot up and down every second of movement. and no, bethesda has not released a patch for skyrim that improves framerate on either console, only graphical glitches like some draw errors. hell, they haven’t even fixed all the broken quests yet. you can review their updates and what each fixes on their website”
Uh no it’s definitely not up and down all the time. There is an occasional drop every now and then but most of the time it’s very smooth.
When they fixed the rare PS3 lag bug they improved the framerate for everyone it seems. Everyone I talked with saw an improvement in framerate. It’s probably on par with the 360 now. But without the screen tear.
“no, they both have the same audio channels, bitrate, compression and supported hardware set at 5.1Dolby, 5.1linear PCM and some support for DTS i believe.”
Not according to EG DF.
“thats why lense of truth themselves said about skyrim “the 360 version will pick up on things much further in the distance than the PS3 will”
and the longer the draw distance means reduced texture pop in as the console has more time to fade the textures in.”
This is not something that bothered me at all. Seeing a tree pop in now and then is worth it instead of extreme screen tear. There is not much pop in at all. I never said it wasn’t but it’s very rare. So the 360 must have no pop in at all then. But on the other hand it does have extreme screen tear and loading.
“lol “almost unnoticeable”. You even see it clearly in youtube videos. It’s extremely noticeable.”
~i come HERE for the facts, not youtube and LoT says otherwise.
“Uh no, it doesn’t. If anything it’s the opposite. Without FXAA the performance would’ve been better.”
~no, the ps3 suffers framedrops from aliasing and if there was any in the game i would expect it to hold the game at an average 20fps
“Uh no it’s definitely not up and down all the time. There is an occasional drop every now and then but most of the time it’s very smooth.”
~you need to see the comparison again.
“When they fixed the rare PS3 lag bug they improved the framerate for everyone it seems”
~no, there still tackling the broken quests. the ps3 version has the same framerate since the LoT analysis took place
[“no, they both have the same audio channels, bitrate, compression and supported hardware set at 5.1Dolby, 5.1linear PCM and some support for DTS i believe.”]
Not according to EG DF.
~well call me crazy but i tend to listen to the developers of the game over everything and on both boxes it lists the same audio support
“Seeing a tree pop in now and then is worth it, instead of extreme screen tear”
~and i think 7% screen tears are worth the trade for a better framerate, draw distance and better texture quality. your argument in nothing more than an opinion
“There is not much pop in at all.”
~uh yeah there is.
“I never said it wasn’t but it’s very rare.”
~if something happens 70% of the time it doesnt qualify as “rare”, nice try though.
“So the 360 must have no pop in at all then”
~it fades in, like its supposed to. much better than the ps3 version poppin textures at you every step.
“But on the other hand it does have extreme screen tear and loading.”
~and once again 7% is nothing extreme, but your over exaggeration is quite noticeable. the load times are even less than the ps3 version when on the HDD.
“~i come HERE for the facts, not youtube and LoT says otherwise.”
The only fact here is that it’s close to 8%. If anyone think that’s alot or not is entirely subjective. I for one think it’s alot when it’s clearly visible in videos. Even half as much would still be very noticeable.
“~no, the ps3 suffers framedrops from aliasing and if there was any in the game i would expect it to hold the game at an average 20fps”
facepalm.jpg. Do you even know what aliasing is? More aliasing=more fps. Less aliasing=less fps. Is it so hard to understand?? Why am I even discussing with you if you don’t even understand these basic concepts?
“~no, there still tackling the broken quests. the ps3 version has the same framerate since the LoT analysis took place”
Not if you watch the EG DF patch analysis.
“~well call me crazy but i tend to listen to the developers of the game over everything and on both boxes it lists the same audio support”
Proof? In any case I rather trust EG DF. On the cover of Skyrim it also says 1080p or 1080i. So it’s obvious they can’t be trusted
“~and i think 7% screen tears are worth the trade for a better framerate, draw distance and better texture quality. your argument in nothing more than an opinion”
You “forgot” it’s not only 8% screen tear. It’s also very long loading times and much more jaggies. And your argument is also nothing more than an opinion. The thing is the framerate is almost on par and so is the draw distance. And the differences in texture quality is only noticeable when comparing side by side. These are only minor issues. Screen tear is not or loading or jaggies. 8% is a big amount. But that’s just my opinion, I don’t know what your opinion is. 50%?? I dunno. Also 20 seconds in loading on average is also EXTREME. It’ll add up to a huge amount. But of course it’s all just opinions. According to your logic pop in might as well be something positive and make the PS3 even better. Cause it’s all just opinion.
“~if something happens 70% of the time it doesnt qualify as “rare”, nice try though.”
Where did you get your numbers from? And even if your made up number turned out to be true it’s in fact a very small number and only your opinion that it’s not rare.
“~it fades in, like its supposed to. much better than the ps3 version poppin textures at you every step.”
I see that you’re resorting to lying now. Well then then I might as well take up the issue that with the 360 version is only in 240p. See I can do it too.
~and once again 7% is nothing extreme, but your over exaggeration is quite noticeable. the load times are even less than the ps3 version when on the HDD.
Lol you shouldn’t be talking about over exaggerations. Just look above. At least my statement is an opinion whereas yours is just a flat out lie. And can you prove that the load times are less?? Not that it matters. It’s out of the box that counts. Otherwise we might discuss what happens if you use an SDD on the PS3. That could potentially eliminate the pop in and other things.
Anyway what is the point of talking to you when you are lying and can’t even grasp basic concepts such as aliasing?
Sorry Nova, but I checked the X360 videos. Skyrim on X360 looks crispier, but many screen were cut in half. I can’t stand that. It isn’t only a matter of how much tearing, but also of where it happens. In the middle of the screen it s just plain frustrating.
