Stunning game from the screenshots and gameplay vids :O
Lots of web sites have confirmed the 360 version has bad performance issues. PS3 wins this H2H.
Man, I think… Hwo voted xbox360??!!
I didnt think there were so many evident differences between the 2 versiones, that’s a negative point to team bondy, but at least it is not as bad as one would think, also im thinking the performance will be better on ps3, so the victory im quite sure that will go to the ps3 version, im allready playing the xbox 360 version.
A tip for the ones who buy it on the xbox 360, install the game, cause it reduces load time and pop-in issues by far.
its not like dev´s fault cuz they said originally they would need 6 xbox disc instead of 3, so basically they were limited, besides its not that bad well thats why i hope, i´ll wait the performance anylisis…PS: capacity can make difference, MS must consider it nex gen i guess
PS3 for sure, though it isn’t surprising i heard that Rockstar was putting more effort into the PS3 version; not to mention the 360 version being on 3 discs.
Nope, they led on ps3 version, so the primary game code was designed around ps3 architecture, and then ported over to the 360′s hardware from that code, which is relatively easy to do in comparison to the other way around, as they simply as the gpu to do the tasks being thrown at ps3′s spu’s. The 360 is much more versatile in this way, and doesnt need many specific task allocations like ps3 does.
All this is assuming they actually “led” on ps3. What they could have meant is what a lot of devs are doing now, and that is they use one engine that is designed to be able to work simultaneously across the two platforms, as both consoles appear to dev as having same architecture, and according to Irrational games(bioshock infinite), this actually helps improve performance on 360 too.
” Part of achieving this newfound focus on cross-platform parity comes from using a brand new engine, which has been customised in such a way that allows programmers to approach work on both versions similarly as you would when simply coding for the PS3. It has been said many times before that this approach would see tangible benefits for both platforms, and this certainly seems to be the case.
“We all know that the PS3 is powerful but unique console with its own strengths and challenges. But compared to the PC, the Xbox 360 is challenging too. So instead of declaring a ‘lead platform’ and porting the game to the others, we’ve instead changed the game engine so that all platforms look (to a programmer) more like a PS3. This means implementing a task-oriented task processor that assumes a NUMA (non-uniform memory access) design that mimics the PPU/SPU split of the PS3. Writing code this way is more difficult for us, but has a key advantage: it’s both optimal for the PS3 *and* gives speed improvements on other platforms due to increased cache coherence and more efficient use of multiple processing units.”

very close h2h but ps3 take this victory quite easy
Wow it felt like just yesterday someone in neogaf posted comparison screenshots in which the xbox version looked better… oh it was lol. Wow The difference is big again as in no ssao on the xbox and crisper graphics for the ps3 version. Though I am seeing that the xbox version does have better clothing textures though.

GLad I pre-orederd the PS3 version, was toying with PS3 or 360 version.
Minimal differences compared to Red Dead. Mutiplat game Developers have to make games on PS3 and port them to Xbox 360…
PS3 version have SSAO, better shadows and better performance, clear winner here.
As far as visual is concerned, it’s clear that the PS3 version has the advantage here. From the first pic, I can see that the Xbox 360 version has missing buildings (or perhaps they were randomly generated, but I find that highly unlikely) and several lighting inconsistencies spotted at the lower part of the bridge (which is further amplified by the lack of SSAO or Baked AO, whichever.) However, I think that these differences hold no significant impact on the game in general and unless someone compare two versions side-by-side, I think these differences will go unnoticed while playing. Now, it’s the performance that I’m worry about, I have been hearing that Xbox 360 version’s performance is noticeably worse than the PS3 version, but I wonder how bad it actually is in reality. Either way, it would seem that having the PS3 as the lead platform does indeed minimize the differences between two versions (of course, competent developers are still the essential part of the equation.)
Oops. I wasn’t talking about the “first” pic, I was talking about this pic:

Man, every time a Head2Head for a major game comes out, the “traffics” here become so busy that it’s almost impossible to even access the site.
Amen brother, liking ur mature attitude, although on principle I have to abuse truehurts as he is a p**k and I dont like him at all, whereas I just enjoy verbally sparring with android and find him amusing.
I heard 360 version performance suffers too, but its not a game breaker, just more pop in and slower texture loading(can be reduced by install), with a bit of frame rate stuttering, but nothing game breaking.
The lighting is all over shop though. That random lighting under brighe is insane, theres nothing in sight to light it up like that, and ssao clearly better on ps3.
Overall, ppl shouldnt be crying about either, ppl just nit picking for sake of rubbing it in each others faces.
now im off to abuse android and Truehurts(love fact some ppl call him butthurts lol)
The PS3 is the clear winner, but honestly? The 360 version doesn’t look half bad either. Ports are usually allot better if done originally on the PS3 and then ported over.
well..i go for ps3 this time..
Makes me even more dissappointed with my PS3 copy of Red Dead Redemption!!!!
There is no hope for RAGE on PS3, Rockstar is leading on 360 with GTA/RDR games
I dont understand ur point tbh mate Whats rage on ps3 got to do with gta/rdr????
RAGE – Rockstar main engine, used in GTA, RDR and Midnight Club – every game on this engine performs and looks better on 360. First game on this engine was 360 exclusive (Table Tenis) so it’s not suprising, same goes for Capcom’s MT Framework. Some devs created their engines before full PS3 devkits arrived and they still don’t give a shit that they’re not optimal for PS3 even after modifications. New, multithreaded engine is the way to go, but very few devs creates something like that, sad story…
i see lol, i thought u meant Rage the John Carmack title lol
anyway, they could always optimise the engine like people have done with UE3 and other engines. Look at valve with Portal 2, or Castlevania which used ue3 but optimised heavily.
Tbh i imagine they will update it drastically for next iteration of GTA anyway, as it looks highly dated now, and Red Read could do with a polish too.
RDR and GTA4 is better on the 360, but have you looked at Digital Foundry’s comparison of Episodes From Liberty City? The problems the original GTA4 PS3 version were fixed with Episodes. The 360 and PS3 version of both Episodes games look practically identical. Episodes is native 720p on the PS3, not 720p upscaled like GTA4 was.
The good thing about GTA4 though is that it was hardly noticeable as a better looking 360 game. It was 720p upscaled from 640p on the PS3 with the 360 being native 720p. It’s not much of a noticeable difference as it’s very good on both consoles.
engine still needs updating, its showing its age badly now
Red Dead Redemption had lot of alpha effects in the foliage etc, so whilst if optimised would have looked a lot better, it still would have not looked same or better than 360 version im afraid. Alpha effects are bandwidth heavy, and not suitable for the ps3′s limited bandwidth, and u cant really offload these tasks onto spu’s as far as i understand. Although, maybe, they could have offloaded other things onto spu’s leaving room for alpha effects on gpu.Im not certain that would work, but maybe. If u look at kz3 , uc3 etc they all avoid heavy use of alpha effects, and instead use particle based effects and clever for their explosions and fire effects, often using low res textures to reduce bandwidth strain. Theyve really had to be clever and innovate in their use of water, fire and explosion effects to try compensate for this issue.
Not all bad news though, as uc3 has led to more organic and realistic movement of fire and water due to these methods.
Just one thing, the xbox version aslo support SSAO, but it’s less agresive/noticeable than the ps3 version.
Both games are almost identical, maybe the performance will be the real determinating fatcor ( xbox 360 suffer a heavy frameskyp in some areas) I dunno if that happens on ps3.
This game demonstrate that 360 can handle very eficiently some ps3 “exclusives” don’t forget this game was made for the ps3 and lately ported to 360.
I honestly don’t see a clear winner here, i’ll wait till the performance analisys , ps3 version will win for sure, but in terms of graphics for me it’s a tie
In the past were many games declared as a tie having much more diferences than this one an now peple is claiming this one as a clear winner on the ps3…. funny xD.
No SSAO on 360, shadows are dithered and game runs worse. Not to mention 3 discs vs 1. It’s the second game that was ported on 360 durning the development, first was FFXIII – both are clearly better on PS3. This really shows that games like Uncharted or Killzone would be worse on 360, not that much but with less effects and worse framerate for sure. PS3 is worse performing console for most devs, but when they give it more atenntion than just “it runs? Proceed with manufacturing” it’s clear that console is stronger than 360 (but it’s not huge difference).
No it isn’t, all it proves is that the PS3 was the lead platform, you can see the exact opposite on games with 360 as the lead platform.
Big difference – porting from PS3 to 360 is much easier. Plus – average dev time is 2 years this gen, Both of this games (FFXIII, LAN) were in development for 360 since 2008, so it’s 2 years for FF and 3 for LAN. Ususally – it takes 1 year to convert released (= done) game from one platform to another, this devs had so much more AND it was during the development. That’s why I belive this is much different situation than average “360 lead” games and really shows power of both consoles.
it is true that its much easier to port over from ps3 to 360 no doubt, but it still requires optimisation if u going to get best results. Maybe it is just better on ps3 because ps3 is better designed for this specific engine and game, but theres no proof tbh, just speculation. Theres no doubt that ps3 better equipped for certain things, and if utilised correctly it can do lighting and physics easier than 360, but it also has its own limitations and areas where its second best to 360 such as alpha heavy effects, so depends on what they asking the engine to do, and how well they chose to allocate tasks on each console and how well engine is optimised to do so.
It could as easily be that they decided that it wasnt worthwhile having to invest more money in optimising when it looked ok as it is.
Ainsley I agree with you, this game was made on ps3 and ported to the Xbox 360 it was better for the ps3, but when it is done for Xbox 360 and ported to the PS3, the Xbox 360 version is better.
should have done the game on both platforms without porting to another one!
i think that’s bullcrap, its obvious that the xbox has had no special attention like the ps3 needs, guaranteed this game would of looked better if it was xbox lead. i wonder how much more money it costs developers to get games up to scratch on ps3. why should xbox owners have to put up with inferior ports when it costs developers less money to make the game for xbox. in a way its sonys fault for opting to use cell, they would of been better off using summet developers find easier to use.
i will be very surprised if sony use cell again which makes it even more of a waste of time for developers. really all sony have done is give developers a headache and cost them crap loads of money. go on about how good uncharted is but sony fund them shit loads and give them all the time they need. hopefully sony take developers opinions seriously next gen and give them a console that don’t lose people money.
It’s not bull crap and he raises some valid points. They have had huge amounts of development time, as game was extremely early on it’s process revealed to multi plat. Typically games that come out worse in ports from 360 to ps3 run on middleware built around the more traditional gpu based architecture of 360 such as ue3 , but even here with heavy optimisation we find that parity or almost parity has been possible on even this engine, it’s just devs have to be prepared to optimise the engine.
Simple analysis I can think of is that ue3 on 360 tells the gpu to do task a and task c, it does them straight out, but on ps3 they may have to split the task onto the spu’s , asking spu 1 to do task a whilst another spu does task c. This takes some time to get the engine completely reworked and optimised to run this way. However the process I relatively simple working other way, and if u can name me another ps3 led port apart from this and ffx13( hampered by time and space on DVD) that come off worse I’ll eat my hat. Devs even claim it can enhance 360 performance working in this manner.
Furthermore u are ignoring issues 360 has actually going 720p , wherein performance is hampered by doing so if it utilises the ordinarily free AA through the edram, as the image has to be tiled , thus most devs will make cut backs elsewhere ( gears 3 has no AA at all) like lighting, texture quality, res, AA to maintain performance of go sub 720 like crysis . Crysis 2 is without doubt not a good game to discuss quality of ports, as on itself on pc/360 it is still buggy and half finished . On 360 it still has poor ai, texture pop in, low level temporal aa, low res textures galore, frame rate issues, they even later admitted that the global illumination system they harped on about was not fully implemented on consoles as it wasn’t up and running or stable in time . Then they came out wanting more ram for consoles , which whilst admittedly a necessity for future gen, also gives insight into their level of optimisation. Their pc background allows them to simply use brute force to get games looking good . They can’t get away with that kind of lazy programming on consoles, especially on ps3.
As for ps3 architecture, yes it was a mistake , but why?
Is it purely the design of architecture being bad? The answer is no!
The issue is it was untraditional , and devs had no tools for it initially , the engines available didn’t work in tandem with it, and it was expensive and initially not worthwhile learning how to optimise engines , as ps3 userbase was too small.now however they have generally updated and optimised middleware or developed no engines that are able to get best out of both consoles( see iqgamer article with irrational games about bioshock infinite for details) on how this is being done. In theory working from ground up on ps3 isn’t much more time consuming than on 360, if u know what u doing, it’s just different . It’s just trying to get an engine that is designed for one architecture to work on another totally different one that’s the issue, as it requires drastic reworking
The next gen Sony could easily use the cell again if it wanted as the hard work has already been done by devs, so engines could easily transfer across to next gen. Whether they will, who knows.
I really have to disagree. As far as graphics go, Resident Evil 5 on PS3(the graphically inferior version) looked better than Uncharted/2. And Killzone really isn’t anything special. Keeping strictly consoles in mind, Crysis 2 is the best looking console game. It also runs better in both standard and 3d mode on Xbox 360.
No the lighting is off on 360 too, and multiple sights have confirmed slower texture loading, more framerate issues(not game breaking though) and ssao either non existent, or much weaker)
So clearly not a tie at all, but its far from a bad port.
No doubt at all, that leading on ps3 has worked in its favours. There may be technical reasons for these differences and if they designed from ground up on 360 it may been different, who knows.
I preordered the ps3 version, meanwhile i’m playing the 360 version and, belive me it has SSAO it looks washed out or less dark but its there.
And yes, it has some issues with texture loads and shadows, but looks great, some of this “problems” can ve solved installing the game on the HDD.
Anyway it’s a good port, I’ve found some bugs during gameplay I supose due to it’s a port but it’s better than the 90% of the ports made from 360 to ps3 so I repeat, for me is a tie.
If you own both consoles the choice is clear PS3, if you only own 360, don’t worry it’s a great game and a good port it’s not another Red Dead Redemption, Bayonetta etc etc etc.. xD
No, it’s not a tie by any means. Tie is in games like Dante’s Inferno, NFS HP, Burnout Paradise or DS2 when both version are identical, in this case one have adventages in every department. And again – no SSAO on 360.
BTW: It’s easly on the level of differences in this 90% ports from 360 to PS3, most of them are just slighty worse on this platform. There are of course some extreme examples (Bayonetta, SC:DA, Ghostbusters but NOT RDR) but is’s cleary way above that.
And once again 360 version has SsAO, I’m not a liar

My camera sucks ^^’ but it’s enouthg to see it, as I said is less intense but it’s there, I wonder how are you so sure if yu haven’t played the game….. don’t answer…
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
how do u know its ssao and not pre-baked though?
its clearly missing in other shots even if its there in some. im not sure u fully get what ssao is, as one pic u posted seems to indicate where its missing, look at guy in blue suit and his slightly raised foot(his right) theres no shadow under his shoe.
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/img20110517170122.jpg/
also look at 360 version of this shot, looking at the boxes in the alley on left. theres none there where there is on ps3.

lensoftruth.com/wp-content/gallery/h2hssc_la_noire/h2h_lens_zoom_04.jpg
I know it’s not pre-backed, cuz it changes dinamically and depending on the camera angle/object-person, position, it “disappears” or gets darker.
Fair enough, I’ll take ur word for it as have nothing to say otherwise ,but as illustrated earlier with those imaged, it’s clearly implemented sporadically at best it seems, as it’s missing in some instances .
It doesnt show anything of sort btw, it just shows that this engine is designed around strengths of ps3, and then ported to 360. if theyd designed from ground up on ps3 and 360 separately then u might see two very different results, with both games looking better. Then again, the ps3 might have looked better and 360 not much different, but we dont know exactly the technical reasons for certain choices etc. So all we know for sure, is that la noire runs better on this engine for ps3.
With a side-by-side comparison like this it’s clear that the PS3 version looks better, but for all intents and purposes, it’s a pretty good port.
no doubt, but inferior lighting, slower texture loading , frame rate stutters, no ssao. u cant really say its anything but ps3 win, even if other game still looks good.
I really think this game looks boring anyway tbh, it has loads of cut scenes, loads of driving from a to b(u can skip apparently, but then thats even less actual gameplay), less action than gta or red ( was underwhekmed by those too) and clunky shooting mechanics according to reviews and according to those playing it, its really slow to start with, so couldnt care less which wins other than im a bit of sad geek and like to read these face offs etc, and look into reasons behind decisions etc in design of game.
Its has been a bad month for 360: has been owned on al H2H.
Ill really enjoy this game on PC, if its released to, cause ill get it for 360, as my xbl achievements worths much more for me than ps trophies
I just love how things get twisted. When a multi-plat game looks better on the 360, it’s because the PS3 sucks, is impossible to develop for, etc. When the rolls are reversed and the PS3 version looks better, it’s because the game MUST have been developed with the PS3 in mind, and the 360 was screwed by a lazy port.
If this proves anything, it’s that it really has nothing to do with the system, but rather the developer. Idiots like Android that constantly attack the PS3 are wasting their time, because it is clearly not the PS3′s fault that a developer doesn’t give the proper care to its version. The 360 came out first, developers are comfortable with making games for it, so they use it as the lead, which results in PS3 versions being gimped. Now, you see developers finally starting to use the PS3 as a lead, and 360 games are taking a hit.
and in conclusion….
h ttp://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/60480/1144544-elpresador_super.jpg
speaking of gimps, where is Android and true(butt)hurts?? lol
ps, the ps3.360 point ur making isnt entirely true, generally they pretty even, but each has areas its stronger and weaker in (ps3 physics and lighting, and has advantae of being able to go 720p and maintain levels of AA through using mlaa and maintaining rekatively complex images, whereas 360 has to stay sub hd to fit in edram if it wants to maintain certain level of complexity in images, whilst using benefits of edram such as free AA etc, otherwise it takes performance hit, whilst the 360 alpha heavy effects like fire, water, smoke effects, which ps3 struggles with due to bandwidth limitations. See bioshock 2 and water effects, or explosions in black ops)
I agree with you that there are strengths and weaknesses with each console, but there are also ways around them. Take MLAA for example. I think that most of the games that have come out this gen COULD have looked nearly identical on each platform if they had been given the same amount of attention. The only exceptions being exclusives that look amazing purely because they use the console specific architecture to it’s fullest.
im here… playing it on my xbox 360 (disc 2). I can say the third screenshot with (Rollover to see the Difference. Notice the missing reflection map on the Xbox 360 version.) is wrong, its a reflection of another car headlight. The game drop some frames in the xbox version i afirm it the first scene run at 15fps. but the game runs without problems. I will w8 for the full h2h. I think it will be a tie or a ps3 win. lets see =)
Thats about the most mature post ive ever seen u post mate, i applaud ur new found maturity
I replayed the beginning a couple times just to see, and the “reflection” is there every time on the PS3 version. It could be caused by a passing car, but does that mean the 360 doesn’t have that car? Man, PS3 owners caught shit over some missing foliage on RDR, but with this game entire cars are missing from the 360, lol.
@DEATHRATTLEHEAD
I Think you didn´t played the game mate… cars are random
Dont compare every game with rdr, this game was a ps3 exclusive. Im on disc 3 right now and can assume you the game runs flawlessly on xbox 360 with only some pop ups when you drive fast (ofc I´ve installed all 3 discs). Dont expect a ps3 massacre you will get disapointed.
@SUAREZ07 I only bash monkey´s and DebilMarine… you are a good poster (only write 2 mutch) =)
LMAO, it’s all about Beastblood. “Trey for life!” – ELPRESADOR
Elpresador is a 360 fanboy now lol.
lensoftruth.com/wp-content/gallery/h2hssc_la_noire/xbox-360-rollover_08.jpg
have a look here at boxes on left in the alley, theres no ssao at all there. Its either using a heavily pared back ssao system that only operates in certain parts, or not using it at all, and other shadows in game are baked on
Thanks again LOT for this h2h! Well, i got it for ps3, its smooth, detailed and like i hoped – its damn good (but the beginning of the game and the first steps in it are pretty goddamn boring, in my opinion). I actually even tried the 360 version, and well, i think its pretty good on 360 too, so if you only have 360, get it ASAP, you wont be disappointed!:) Graphics wise (they are just beautiful…:D), the only thing ive seen better on ps3 was ssao, like in pictures – theres none of that on 360, the performance was pretty stable throughout the game on xbox (it did struggle a bit a couple of times, but it wasnt that bad or noticeable). So i think its a decent port on 360, and by the way – if you install all 3 discs in the console, the pop-in and load times decreases significantly. So yeah, like i said, the port for xbox aint as bad as expected, its almost the same, but ps3 still for me!XD Oh, and did i mention that the graphics are GODDAMN INCREDIBLE?:D
Thank u guys, very prompt comparison, was just about to buy it for xbox, lens of truth saves lives! emphasis on the word “truth”, just days ago other sites have been showing comparisons where the 360 was the clear winner, though people speculated it was fanboy trickery.
I am honestly grateful that this site exists and that u guys always do a speedy compare so that i can buy and play the game on day one.
We love hearing those comments, thats why we do these Head2Head’s.
I would also like to thank you, LoT! I wasn’t gonna get this game, afraid that it would be another GTA4, but after this H2H, when seeing that the developers really put work into the PS3-version, I will so be getting it! Thanks again, and I can’t wait for your review!
Thanks a lot for the hard work you all put in. I base a lot of my purchases on this site. Any word when the full head2head will be up?
Think we should all post a comment as token of our appreciation now, cause we all come on here arguing and utilising the site and the service they provide, and don’t really show our appreciation.
Starts a slow clap, and waits for others to join in , before turning it into rapturous applause……..
LOT your site rocks. I once ridiculed it, but have done an about face and not too proud to admit it. The constant debates about the H2H make my day, and I check in daily, religiously. Not just because I am finally seeing the Xbox get it’s arse handed to it, but because no other site really compares. Keep up the good work guys. And what happen to the comment voting system? That was a good feature and missed.
u like the site all of a sudden i wonder why. and xbox has not had it’s arse handed to it at all, this game was supposed to be ps3 exclusive and it was ps3 lead. get your head out ur arse and realise that the ps3 is old just like the xbox. they have both got crappy specs now. the cell cannot save u from shitty gpu and memory. the voting system was taken off when this site was over run with ps3 fanboys giving thumbs down to any comment against ps3.
ill admit im an xbox fanboy but i speak the truth simple. when next gen comes around it won’t be long b4 xbox finishes ps3 off. sony vs ms its a no brainer.
Nice comparison so far LoT. I’m very interested in seeing the performance. Even tho i’m not interested in the game, i always love the full H2H’s, guess i’m a nerd that way.
You guys are clearly mental!!!!
360 screens here look easily as good as the ps3 version.
Much more vibrant in fact.
Look at the 2nd pic with the draggable bar, the 360 actually has lighting effects compared to the toned down ps3 version.
Looks a good 360 port this i must admit, depends how the framerate is.
I was going to say it’s a shame they didn’t code it on 360 first and then port to ps3, but we all know what happens when it’s done that way around lol.
Android mate, either the 360 lighting in that pic is totally wrong or these are two different shots altogether, as there’s something lighting up under the bridge far more than the other light sources going on in the shot, im guessing a car passing under it, plus theres an extra car on bridge travelling in front lighting up the right hand side. It also is lit up along the bridge on left too, which makes me think they different shots taken with different facts affecting the lighting , in this case its specifically a car on and at least one passing passing under the bridge.
If u really want to analyse that shot, slide the bar over the car and watch it blur.
So another head2head loss in quick succession for the mighty 360 eh?
As for ports other way, yes we know what happens when ports arent optimised properly when going from 360-ps3(bayonetta, black ops), and we also know what happens if ports are done well(castlevania ran on ue3 would u believe it? ), so yes we do know. But we also know what happens when portal 2 doesnt run as well on an engine that ws previously superior on ps3, we know that la noire looks better, despite ps3 led games often producing near parity ie hot pursuit, vanquish etc, in fact can u name another ps3 led game that has led to 360 losing out significantly? Maybe this one was just because the ps3 was superior?? i reckon its the old edram issue coming into play here.
BUT….dont worry Android u can get it on ur pc…oh no, wait! u cant lol
Ah yes his probably imaginary PC
If android didn’t have a pc then how else would he be able to get on LoT? La noire might be coming to pc later on though. It happens sometimes.
Unscarred
It was a reference to his gaming pc which is his go to line , when the 360 version loses a head2head. ie ” pc version is superior one, I’ll be playing on that version ” , but even if a pc version is available and superior when 360 wins, it’s “360 wins!”
He could still not have a pc and get online btw, someone else’s pc, Internet cafe, a phone with Internet capabilities etc
Well it’s true the pc does always win lol. I know this because i have a gaming computer to go along with my xbox and ps3. Android just posts things on here to get you to respond to him because he knows some people just can’t resist. He’s not all that bad though, Some of the people on here are a lot worse then he is..

Oh I know mate, I quite like android , and if u read my posts , me and him are always verbally sparring. I just like busting his balls.
Truehurts on other hand is just an ‘orrible lil fecker.
Maybe in yout twisted world the lack of SSAO mean better lighting but in ours its one win to ps3 over 360. Deal with it.
As an owner of the ps3 version of la noire I can confirm that the light is coming from a train that passes by. The ps3 pic is taken too early. But the ps3 did have the lighting as well. So no the ps3 is still the better version
This would rock on my imaginary pc lol.
LOL. It’s good to see that in all of your deludness you can still post a normal comment (and funny one). The wind of change perhaps?
Andoid’s posts have always come off as normal. Sure he’s not above flame baiting or strongly posting his preference of consoles, but he never cusses at anyone, calls anyone names, makes personal attacks, or comes up with stupid nick names for consoles, like shitbox or ps3HDwii.
The above screenshots for La Noire DO look exteremly close, but the ps3 is going to win ultimately because of the performance most likely, and of course, being on a single disc.
Anyhoo, looks like I’m taking a trip to best buy here pretty soon to pick up a copy on ps3.
Certain cutscenes are probably pre-rendered HD video, which explains why they look almost perfectly identical.
Will wait for the full H2H but it’s looking increasingly likely a PS3 win in all departments. But this is to be expected being led on PS3 which I have argued should be for all multiplat games from the onset as then both versions look and perform well. Of course this may mean some games end up on multiple discs on 360 but that’s better then downgrading the 360 version by such a margin just to fit it on one disc. Plus Team Bondi said the 360 disc changing is really good and doesn’t really affect the game. We will see in due course.
Sorry Android123……Xbox fail AGAIN! Like we all knew would happen. PS3 has much better hardware. Fullstop. We are seeing it now the developers are finally pulling thier fingers out.
Much better hardware? The same PS3 that renders in subpar 720p for most major releases?
Go rent Crysis 2 on both consoles, and come back to me on that ‘Ps3 has much better hardware’. The 360 version was far better done graphically in every way except in 3D.(<–slight PS3 edge).
Oh, btw, both consoles are last gen stuff anyway, and it's too bad there was no pc release, because 1080p with far better AA/and AF, is the norm for any gaming pc rig.
As far as 'which console is better', both are so equal(taking into accout the combo cpu/gpu/internal ram…ect) that the answer lies in the development.
Also if you want 'far better hardware'..lol, don't talk these 5-6 yr old consoles, just invest in a pc rig with a gtx570/580/590 type gpu and vRam up to 2GB.
I am ROFL at Earbus. Always knew you were wrong.
The Xbox 360 version was probably a last minute thing,so it looks good for the amount of time and effort put into it,but it shouldn’t have been released until it was at least on par with the PS3 version…2 words – greed & laziness
PS3 to 360 porting will always favor PS3.
360 to PS3 porting will always favor 360.
Thing is though…
“PS3 to 360 porting will always favor PS3.”
Actually it favors both ps3 and 360, we have seen this before. Ps3 led multiplats end up looking identical.
“360 to PS3 porting will always favor 360.”
This, only favors the 360.
PS3 to 360 porting will generally favor PS3!
The devs have to work 10 times as hard to make the PS3 version good, and by the time they get to the 360, they don’t give a shit anymore!
This is obviously better on PS3, but it looks really good on both. This is why all multiplats should be developed on PS3, because then the developer uses the cell processor to make up for lack of cores, and both versions turn looking pretty much the same, and everyone is happy. 360 has slightly better lighting, but PS3 has slightly better textures and reflection. If the 360 version performs worse than the PS3, then the win is going to the PS3 version. With 1 disc, the PS3 version should win, regardless.
well u would say that owning and using your ps3. i won’t accept shoddy ports. its sonys fault for using the cell. the cell hasn’t shown it can do anything special at all, apart from fuck it up for developers and multiplatform. sony are the only 1s to blame for these situations.
they have shown there not very good at anything this gen, they barely make profit, cost people money and time, have shit online servive, and get your information stolen and go heres a free game WERE SORRY reminds me of the southpark episode and the BP company.
“the cell hasn’t shown it can do anything special at all”
Erm…Uncharted 2, Killzone 3 and MGS4 say hello.
And I don’t think I need to mention that your last paragraph was a heap of bullshit.
i personally think xbox could produce any of those games. maybe the amount of cut scenes would be a problem but that’s about it. the xbox does stuff that ps3 struggles with. could they make gears the same way no but no doubt they could match it to.
both consoles are pretty much even i think, i just dnt like the fact people think the ps3 is some power house when its so out dated, just like the xbox is to.
And u no deep down killzone was all style and no substance. and obviosly the cell is not special at all most average pc’s blow it away, if it was so good they would be using them in most pc’s but thats not the case is it.
SMOOTH are u serious? so basically ps3 own ALL the best looking games just by some kind of coincidence?.. Its not like im a fanboy but i cant help myself sometimes. Talking about cell “failure” its stupid, cuz at this time we already knows what console owns the best games (technically speaking)
The cell can really only be used for exclusives in mind because Sony can give time and a huge amount of resources for that developer.
Both xbox and ps3 are outdated but ps3 is big more powerful, although as of yet we still don’t have an exclusive engine that is solely exclusive to the xbox to make use of all of its potential and frankly engines are a big deal when developing games.
Really? REALLY? Still? After ALL this time people are STILL on the “Power of the CELL” crap???? The CELL is and has always been NOTHING SPECIAL. Just deal with it for heaven’s sake people!
lmao off, considering MS has lost billions over the last two gens on xbox , its laughable that u can say that sony barely make a profit.
mmm i have my doubt about it, ps3 n xbox has the same cost(299 bucks) n both consoles got about the same number of sales, so logically the cheaper hardware make more profits plus MS make a lot of money with xbox live (60bucks a year 30 milion people).
However, its really that important?… Activision has a lot of profit with COD´s series and i dont think that they are the best company. Just my opinions
i voted tie their both are pretty much identical. the pics where 360 is brighter, doesn’t mean much cause you can turn the brightness up on the ps3 and get the same effect most likely. it really matters on how well both version perform in the gameplay. im sure ps3 will outperform the 360 cause ps3 was the lead platform, but probably wont be a huge difference in the two. 2 good reason to get the ps3 version if you have both console is you get the free content on ps3 and cause its on one disc.
If anyone knows anything about SSAO, is that it takes a MAJOR hit on GPU performance. So let’s not go crazy over a tiny SSAO difference. If you want a real SSAO difference, go to the pc modders of GTA:IV, which with the right setting using enb, you have nearly photorealistic graphics.
Second, i can see the developers using a bit better code for SSAO on the PS3..if they use the CELL to handle it.
Third. Where’s the difference in texture quality/draw distance? Because they have been major weaknesses for the PS3 in cross-platform releases.
Fourth, i have both consoles(and a damn good pc rig) and i simply cannot trust this site, since it could not come to a quick answer on Crysis 2, of which i noticed the difference in 30 min’s of H2H play. (i rented both from gamefly
I’m renting both, as i trust only Eurogamer and Gamespot to give me ALL comparsions, with full screen pics. And since both have yet to do a H2H, i’ll rent both versions, and do it myself.
Finally, it’s sad the pc does not get RDR and now this game, as 1080p is the norm with 4XFSAA/16X AF, far better lighting/draw distance/texture quality..ect, that blow both of these last gen consoles away.
And for this site: Start doing REAL H2H’s, with full screenshots and full anylsis on all graphical differences.
Shut your hole! The staff do there best to get these head to heads out as fast as they can. They don’t do this full time nor do they get paid to do this. Just click on the “F.A.Q” section of the site and you will see this. Pc is not something you want to be bringing up here, Trust me i tried and it didn’t end well. If you don’t like the site then get lost..
If u dont like this site, just go away man seriously… I own both consoles n pc but im kinda prefer ps3 so, for me its 2 fucking difficult choose a multiplat game as a winner on my own, cuz if i have a preference, its impossible to be impartial about it. Thats what i like this site so much n a lot of people does by the same reason.
Yeea philip breh. I read a few of your posts and your a prick dude
. But yea this is a screenshot comparison not a H2H. LoT got this out on the day of release, probably the only site. Go suck on a knob and cram your 4x FSAA up your ass cause this is a console site.
“Yeea philip breh. I read a few of your posts and your a prick dude ”
Hahaha, can’t disagree with that.
I can’t wait for the performance analysis. It looks like the PS3 will win this H2H but I’m curious to see if there are any frame rate or screen tearing issues on either version.
I own the PS3 version and there was no screen tearing to be found. There are slight frame rate issues but it’s mostly during the day time for some reason. Driving seems to be fine though.
probably due to the fact that there are more populated areas that you pass by compared to the night. the first chase for kalou led you through a crowded park where the framerate began staggering.
Can I change my vote to “Tie”?
I just played the 360 version and it’s pretty much identical to the PS3 version. Seeing it in motion makes a difference. When I was playing it, I didn’t notice anything different about the shadows (other than they’re dithered on 360) and the only way you’re going to notice a difference between the 2 versions is to look at them side by side in still screenshots.
By the way… the PS3 version does NOT perform perfectly. There are stutters here and there for some reason. It runs smooth for the most part, but sometimes when I’m at a crime scene in mid day, the game starts to bog down and you get a weird form of judder that looks really bad.
I didn’t play a lot of the 360 but I saw the same type of judder. I couldn’t tell if it was worse or not on the 360. The judder came in around the same places too.
There you have it… A mini performance observation review because I have both versions (my brother bought it for 360 and I bought it for PS3 and we live in the same house).
i didnt expect ps3 version to perform perfectly either tbh, but its been said, it has less frame rate issues overall, plus less texture pop in and better lighting and seemingly at times better AF (or some sort of res superiority, but guessing former), just look at clarity of car in this pic on ps3 and 360, the ps3 version far less blurry. theres almost nothing,if anything, in favour of 360, so i say win for ps3, but honestly if u own 360 but no ps3, wjo cares, it loooks fine(not great in game, if u ask me)
lensoftruth.com/wp-content/gallery/h2hssc_la_noire/ps3-rollover_slide_01.jpg
wasnt clear, i meant it doesnt look great on either conole imo, just a shinier version of gta
Yea i belive the 360 runs the same as Ps3 just the ssao is used on ps3.I really think the textures look the same as well. The textures on the clothes look sharp on ps3 as well.
A clear win for PS3. When games get this big, the shitbox flounders like a pussy. I told ya its the xbox3shitty that’s holding this gen of games.
“a clear win for ps3″ yes…the “3shitty” I belive… and u know your g4ystation are offline again?
PSN Wasnt offline , just the website and psn related websites that use psn to log in like kz3, dont be a sore loser true hurts, take it like a man.
yes… some call xbox 360 “3shitty” and im wrong… get real suarez07
i wasnt saying ur wrong to react(although i think using offensive terms like n***a is wrong, very wrong), i said ur wrong about psn being offline.
Take the moral high ground for once, and act mature and argue back sensibly and rationally, without resorting to silly arguments, insulting the ps3 by calling it gaystation or anything similar, and just dont take it all so seriously. its a console, not ur family members
I forgot to add, ive said some mean things about u in past , and tbh I meant them, as u have been quite immature , but recently u seem to be showing a more sensible side , and it’s great to see, don’t ruin it with these kind of comments.
I apologise for the things I said, and promise to keep conversations not personal or offensive in future.
I know dialga can chat bs, but then u have talked enough too, so let’s keep comments not offensive and personal , and certainly not racist comments.
It seems like a bit of a half-assed porting job with regards to the 360 version. But when I say half-assed, I mean no better or worse than what PS3 gamers usually get with multiplatform titles – it’s just that the latter situation is referred to as “normal” and used as a ballplank for ps3-bashers.
Things like missing SSAO is just sloppy from the developers standpoint – we’ve seen 360 games sport the effect numerous times, and more often than not, it’s the ps3 version that magically has it omitted, prompting people to believe the system couldn’t handle it. It’s genuinely down to optimization and cross-platform care/quality control in cases such as these. If the game were extremely alpha-heavy (a la RDR) the differences are understandable, but not the case here.
The pendulum truly does swing both ways, we’re just not used to the Xbox getting the short end of the stick in this fashion.
It most likely is that differences are down to lack of optimisation, and this has been clearly evident in 360-ps3 ports over the years, but ppl really dont seem to understand that the 360 with its edram is best suited to sub 720p res(1152×720)as anything over that and performance starts taking a hit, and it starts losing the benefits of using the edram such as free AA etc. Thus games running at 720p have to mae cutbacks to account or the res, to fit it in the frame buffer and make use of AA etc. So theres also the possibility that as the ps3 ws the lead format, that its best optimised for ps3, and working around its strengths, its still possible to utilise ssao, but in 30 version , it maybe that there is too much going on at 720p to utilise the ssao and maintain performance.
Sub 720p games like crysis2 have the edge as the image fits perfectly in edram and they get full benefits of it, but step outside it and suddenly it struggles. the ps3 if optimised properly doesnt have this issue.
hard to tell actual reason unless a dev speaks about it, but in case of crysis 2, they clearly werent comfortable with ps3 set up9or 360 tbh), as they came out crying about it to DF and almost all the complaints were about lack of ram in consoles and the difficulty the had with bandwidth on ps3, but others have shown continuously, that if utilised properly, this isnt any more of an issue on ps3 than 360 overall, and in some ways is less so an issue, as ps3 can shift data around hardware quicker, its just that its video ram is weaker and thus its bandwidth there insufficient.
Ps3 is winning now on so many games looks like i gotta buy now a ps3 !
Recent head to heads show that most developers have finally learnt to utilize the PS3′s hardware capabilities. Most games which came out in the last 3 months have looked better on the PS3(except Unreal Engine games). What I’ve learnt by now is that Unreal Engine 3 is not a good multiplatform engine solution for developers.Epic should go back to the drawing board and make a true multiplatform engine. Its good to see that many multiplatform developers have rejected the Unreal Engine and have gone instead with internally developed engines which actually work properly on all platforms.Yes,the Xbox version of L.A. Noire is slightly worse then the PS3 version, but the differences are still negligible.Imagine what would have happened if L.A. Noire was running on Unreal Engine 3,the PS3 version would have been significantly inferior.
Wanna know something funny?
The beams on the bridge are lit up on the 360 because a car was driving under the bridge and the headlights lit it up.
I played the 360 version last night and watched that cut-scene and that’s what happened. After the car passed under the bridge, it looked just like the PS3 version (minus the SSAO)
I’m putting this out there because people might be thinking that the shading is missing completely under the bridge on the 360 version.
Also, on my 360 version, there was the same reflection on the car in picture 3. I don’t know why it’s missing from LOT’s screenshot. Maybe the reflection hasn’t loaded yet?
It also looks like the 360 has a form of subtle motion blur and the PS3 doesn’t have any.
are u suggesting this motion blur is a positive thing? cause ive seen little evidence to back this up, either here in pics or elsewhere in videos or reviews.
All i can see is some sort of blur that isnt a good thing on that car, it looks blurry as hell when u compare the two images
I wasn’t suggesting it was a positive or negative thing. I’m just saying… I actually PLAYED the 360 version and it looks just as sharp as the PS3 version. It doesn’t look blurry like that. So the only conclusion I could come up with is that there are slight motion blur effects on the 360 that cause that frame to have a double image like that.
The game does NOT look blurry at all on the 360 version. The textures seem high quality as well (once loaded). This is a pretty decent port. The 2 versions are very close indeed. If the 360 had SSAO, then it would definitely be a tie in the graphics department. Why are people freaking out about no SSAO? It doesn’t make the game look much worse and you’ll hardly notice it missing while you’re playing the game.
Sometimes I have to wonder if people are playing these games or just walking around looking at every texture, every reflection and trying to spot AA.
The only thing that bothers me this gen is the screen tearing on most of the games. That stands out more than anything else to me. It just makes the game look broken or poorly made. Not to mention the effect looks like the console is malfunctioning (which most casual gamers might think it’s because the console is having a tough time rendering the graphics which is completely false because it’s up to the developer to make sure the console can keep a steady framerate with no screen tearing. In other words, it’s not the console’s fault for the tearing, it’s the developers fault for letting it.)
“Sometimes I have to wonder if people are playing these games or just walking around looking at every texture, every reflection and trying to spot AA.”
We don’t, but that’s the whole point of this website, comparing the console details of the console versions. Reviewers and these screenshots show a small but significant different in the graphics. You have no reason to complain about the XBOX 360 version being overly criticised because LoT haven’t said anything, they just show us screenshots.
Are you guys serious? I own a PS3 and a 360 and I purchased the game yesterday on PS3 because of the slight graphical advantage and the 1 disc.
But, I can tell you one thing all that crap means nothing if you can’t download all the extra content that was included in my pre-order.
All my xbox buddies are using their dlc I am stuck waiting till God knows when. By the time PSN is fully restored I will have finished the game.
Sony wake the fuck up and fix your shit.
I know PS3 has a way better game library this year, but the online hack has really questioned my faith in Sony.
you keep doing that. i’m going to keep playing.
They just got hacked again….seriously. It’s on Kotaku right now, saying that passwords were just stolen. Gonna have to change it…again.
no it says that passwords could be changed if you havent already changed ur password and they had ur DOB and email address, but psn website is down now and they are working to fix it, and they cant hack into ur ps3 to change it. so whilst it is another cock up by sony its not huge, as they fixing the exploit, and ppl can change their email address associated with their psn account if they want, if they still worried.
Seems I may be wrong about u being safe if u changed password already having looked around( will teach me to listen to posters on forums) . Another epic fail by Sony sigh. Still shouldnt be huge deal as they caught it early enough .would reccommemd changing email address to be doubly safe. Can’t wait to hear Sony explain this one
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-18-sony-admits-fixes-psn-password-exploit
Sony explain to EG , no panic at all, all senstionalsim journalism as usual
Xbox 360… Zas!! in your mouth!! PlayStation 3 is BETHER!!
This is why you port from Ps3 to 360.Both versions look nearly the same just some shadow diffrences. The 360 has slightly better cloth textures from what i see on the Ps3 they are the same.I have the game and everything looks clean and clear on the Ps3.
I agree with Riseer, is a win win for gamers, f*ck fanboys
The 360 has fallen and can’t get up. First Brink and now L.A. Noire. When will the bloodshed end?
First time seeing a Rockstar game doing better on PS3 than 360, but than again L.A. Noir was suppose to be a PS3 exclusive. Well, I guess 360 at least got lucky getting this game at all. This would have been a major lose.
Some of these posts are absolutely shocking. In all honesty it seems that people have their minds crowded.
It’s actually sad to read some of them, they look like a 5 year old wrote them and a 4 yr old edited them.
I looked through LOT screens and also went on some other sites to see the differences.
SSAO is clearly missing from the 360 version, I’m not sure ppl know what SSAO is when they point it out in a screenshot, but it def is not just “shadow”, clearly shown in the pictures 360 has shadows, it just doesn’t have the ray effect from the light, or in other words the effect of sky light. So when your in the sun and there, you have your shadow that casts on the ground, but you also have the small amount of shadow casting your body, which can be under your chin or just areas that can be shown as shading detail. A good example would be if you go to wikipedia you can see this on the insect in the picture.
SSAO, is Screen Space AO, it’s basically the same thing as AO, but can be used by the GPU instead of having it use your CPU. I’m assuming this was put on 1 of the SPE of the ps3.
As for textures, they are like to like in general. I have seen some where the 360 had higher on the ground and the other way around.
I did on the other hand see that the ps3 had better draw view and buildings appeared better in the distance. Also Reflections clearly are missing int he 360 version most of the time, I have no idea why since they aren’t that pronounced anyways, but they do give a better effect.
The performance will say everything, keep in mind that detail is missing from the 360, so I do think it will run better on 360, but with no tearing on ps3.
We’ll see:)
I agree with porting on ps3, since ps3′s way of allocating data is much more complex than 360. Example how to properly allocate ram. 360 has a While 512 and 10 EDram if I’m not mistaken while ps3 has 256 X’s 2 with 0-70 megs used up by Firmware and OS (I think its now 28 megs used by OS I can’t remember and too lazy to search for this post).
Also some of the required methods such as AO in this case, can be used on SPE for ps3 and pipelines for 360.
Remember most of these companies don’t use the full potential of units for multiplatforms since it’s not cost effective. They just choose the road most traveled. So they find the avg power of both consoles and pretty much tweak from there.
Both 360 and ps3 have their weaknesses and strenghts.
Overall, it’s def well proven that the ps3 has more HP under the hood, its not news, its not new and its nothing out of this world.
It has alot to do with the fact that it just has more options in terms of hardware. What could be said for some is it might not be enough to justify the 1 year launch difference.
What is shocking though is the fact that most ps3 exclusives run 720p native while 360 don’t (halo reach, Splinter cell conv) which is shocking cuz more ram is offered on 360.
Anyways for multiplatforms I still say 360 is king, just because its more cost effect to program for, since it can be easily ported to PC, so 2 platforms for 1 project, while ps3 means harder port for PC or 360.
But again I agreed with the ps3 lead, just because eventually devs will catch on with the hardware and how it should be quickly ported to 360/PC.
So 360 cost effective now, ps3 in the long run when the hardware is better realized.
Again thanks for H2H, I got the game for ps3, for visuals and 1 disk:)
I agree with almost everything u say, except about performance where at least 3 sites have already commented on the ps3 having improved performance over the 360 version.( ign gamesradar and gamebomb I think)
I’m no tech genius, but some ppl on here definitely should google a few things before putting in seriously ill informed statements
Again performance is just a guess, logically speaking less detail should atleast yield better frames logcially, but games very depending on dev.
