Welcome back for another exciting Head2Head! This week we take a look at the Ubisoft Shanghai’s I Am Alive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360! First rumored to be in development back in 2008, I Am Alive has gone from being a full retail release, to a downloadable title. But at least it’s finally here. We downloaded trial versions of I Am Alive for both the Xbox 360 (released March 7th), and the PlayStation 3 (available just yesterday, April 4th). Have a look below to see if you can spot any graphical differences…

*To ensure color accuracy from the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U output, the PlayStation 3 has RGB Full Range set to "Full" and Super White "On", and the Xbox 360 has Reference Level set to "Expanded" and HDMI Color Space set to "RGB". Our capture card we have captured segments from the AVS HD 709 . Blu-ray, HD DVD, & MP4 Calibration suite.
As you will see, each system matches each other at the SOURCE LEVEL. No contrast or gamma settings are manipulated before or after capturing our images/videos. We strongly believe that these types of corrections are done on a individuals preference and should not be adjusted by us. Finally, washed out looking images that are due to contrast or gamma differences will not have any influence on our final verdicts. Please Read through our F.A.Q page if you have any questions or concerns.*

PS3 seems to have much stronger DoF and some slightly lower res textures. Also the AA method seems to be slightly different between the two and shadows are inconsistent on both sides.
Other than that, pretty even really.
Hmmmm. Well, I tend to agree with you Vereor. The over priced internet ready blu ray player does have a more agreesive DoG and lower res textures. But it seem that the entire screen may be a lower res as well. The entire thing looks blurry on the over priced internet ready blu ray release. Lighting and shadows on both platforms isn’t anything to write home about either. Based on this comparison, in absence of a performance analysis, I’d have to give the superior Xbox 360 the nod.
“Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made.” –John Carmack
If you think PS3 is overpriced… man I seriously don’t know how poor you are.
@BUYING1999
Oh how I loathe people like you….
@_Larzen_
Careful, you’re gonna encourage him to be even more of a obviously-over-the-top-doing-it-just-to-piss-everyone-off fanboy.
I played this on PSN last night. Almost constant screen tearing. I don’t understand why there’s so much tearing… it’s not a graphically demanding game. It has pretty crappy graphics.
Why can’t we have a head-2-head of Silent Hill HD Collection? From what I’ve heard, the PS3 tries to run at 60fps but fails while the 360 runs at 30fps but is more consistent.
I played the ps3 and I saw the tears on screen do not friend you’re lying
@ferfeli
Actually, that isn’t completely untrue… because immediately after the intro, right when I got control of the character and moved him forward, I saw the screen tore. And while it doesn’t seem like a constant occurrence, I did spot a few screen-tears here and there during my play-through so I can personally vouch for what justspaztik said.
@justspaztik
Why would you want to see a Head2Head between two versions that are actually worse than their PS2 counterpart?
unreal engine games tear like hell on ps3. there are rarely any exceptions no matter how “modified” the engine is.
that much fanboy Saints Row: The Third in the xbox has a lot of tears and no graphics it depends on the producer to give attention to the platform
@ferfeli
What does Saints Row: The Third have to do with this game or the Unreal Engine 3?
You shouldn’t be calling people fanboy when you’re behaving like a blatant fanboy yourself.
I regret I got the X360 version. Should have gotten the PS3′s.
I regret eating that last cookie. Should have known my limits.
@Lens of Truth
Come on, guys. You should have just done a performance analysis based off the demo, since it basically is the game itself without the unlock key.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand… Hm…, this is purely my opinion but based on what shown here, I think that while PS3 version seems slightly blurrier (with occasional lower-res textures) than the Xbox 360 version, it seems to have better lighting and self-shadowing, and a more efficient edge-smoothing technique. Certain effects like depth-of-field and crepuscular rays also seems more pronounced in the PS3 version, too.
So, visual-wise, I think the PS3 version seems a bit better than its Xbox 360 counterpart. Sure wish the staffs would bring out a performance analysis for this too, though.
This runs on the UE, right? If so, whatever “improvements” you see are purely due to the engine not working properly. I hate the UE for this because any game running off it will always have issues on the PS3 version of the game.
better draw distance on xbox 360. and doesnt looks as blrurry and washed out as ps3 version
I don’t know if you noticed, but the game is supposed to look blurry and washed out. It’s part of the post apocalyptic atmosphere…
wipe the crap from ur eyes and stop being a fanboy, the xbox version easily wins if u can’t see that u shouldn’t even leave a comment. what do you get out of lying to urself.
U mad bro?
LOL @SMOOTH’s disagrees.
Seriously, he is right. If you are a 15 year old faggot who trolls articles, and isn’t happy your console won, the GTFO. Seriously, your bitch ass attitude will get you f$%ked up outside of your safe internet haven.
Shit, i usually side with the ps3 version, but some people are so blind with blatant fanboyism. the xbox 360 version is the clear winner here. the ps3 does some things better (shadows) but the xbox 360 version has got better draw distance, less blur and all round textures are better. if you cant cope with that, then blow your brains out.
PS3 is capable of better graphics, i think if you can’t accept that now you are blind, but this is the UE, results WAAAAAAAAYY to predictable.
But of course, i must be a fanboy if a punkass little Fucker says I am………..
ubi should keep their one-month-exclusive, way sharper on 360 pos game on xbla. no way they’re getting any of my psn dollars for such a lazy-ass 2006-esque port.
STFU fanboy.
so, saying I won’t pay for a sub-par port as seen regularly around the year 2006 makes me a fanboy? interesting logic.
Easy win for 360
I couldn’t care less which looks better cause i won’t be buying this garbage.
Cleaner and less blurry looking on 360, when it drops in price i’ll get it.
Agree, it’s cleaner looking on 360, but as Bloodios said it seems to have better DOF on ps3 and I wish I knew what the heck he meant by second term lol. There also seems to be better fog effects being used on ps3, but Im guessing performance probably favours 360 too. I dont see blur as big deal here in this game tbh, as it almost suits the whole art direction and general sense of horror etc.
I’m strongly inclined to give it a win on 360, but wouldnt be averse to playing it on ps3, and im kinda intrigued by it tbh.
Have far too many games left to play though, so maybe much later down line when it is cheap.
Clearly a relatively cheaply made game overall though
@SUAREZ07
I think that fog is the usual smoke and mirror thing to cover up bad draw distance. You could say it two ways.
1. Either the 360 version has a better draw distance
2. The ps3 version has better fog.
Considering its unreal engine 3, im probably gonna say they screwed the draw distance.
Might get the game when its on sale, 20 bucks is too much of a risk TBH.
@kupamogli
irrespective of why it’s there, it fits the mood of the game. I doubt they’d employ alpha transparencies which are extremely heavy on bandwidth to cover up bad draw distances tbh, sounds unlikely.
either way, it fits atmosphere and minimises the impact of the blurred textures etc
One word.
Ubisoft.
So I just played the demo and while the game does have potential it just got quick.
Yes I lost interest in which game I should pick, Xbox360 or PS3. I only play games for exclusivity only. For example, Uncharted, God Of war, Gears of war. Those games we know are exclusive to their respective. Other games like Mass Effect or Assassin’s Creed I left them for PC .
This game is just plan horrible it does not matter what you are playing it on
Yuk. You can have this one Xbox……………….
Here’s something for all you PS3 fanboys….Enjoy…. https://twitter.com/#!/search/%22Sony%20Forecasts%20a%20Record%22
How anybody could get any pleasure by posting this sort of thing is beyond me!!!
What a lowly little maggot.
Geez fanboys in here need to get out more often and leave their mommys computers alone.
Here’s a little something for Xbox fanboys.

Man… Microsoft is full of lazyass and people without wifes…
I think I need to get my eyes checked.
Are you seriously defending the ps3 version?
I can say without a doubt the 360 version looks WAY better.
I will never, ever understand the point of H2H’s of games on 2 consoles so closely matched.
I would say that 90% of the differnces in this game and any other similarly matched game, are purely down to how the graphics artist or programmer designed it on that particular console, its abosolutely nothing to do with performance of the console, the game engine or anything else.
Guys, you need to see through all this BS**t
clear 360 win but who cares? its just another shooter.. Its evident that about 90% of western developers make games better on 360 cuz its easier for them to use. Japanese devs its the other way around.. Ps3 is more powerful and capable than 360 (sorry fanboys but i own ALL current gen consoles). PS3 exclusives clearly look better than the ones on 360. I dont care what any1 says, GOW3 has the most beautiful graphics ive seen this gen & its already a couple years old! Uncharted is great eye candy as well.. Who cares what looks better anymore? its about the games you wanna play… I prefer Japanese developed games over western blasting ANYDAY! If shooters werent so over done then maybe i would like them again but im done with them & will continue playing unique & new titles… Sorry guys but if shooters is all your good at & play, your just a casual gamer and dont need to put your useless opinions on here.. Nintendo & Sony havea a way more diverse & robust library of genres. I love my 360 OS & smooth connectivity but thats not why i own consoles.. I own them for games & have been playing them since 1985, not since halo came out & think im a super game player & only buy games that have guns in them.. Keep ur cheap dime a dozen slightly better western shooting games.. Ill stick with action, adventure, puzzle, jrpg, & platforming like i have been for decades…
I dont understand why you people are in such denial. for example if the 360 was the one thats blurry, thats because of the AA so its better. if its the ps3 and it has AA then its to blurry and looks bad. and if the ps3 has no AA its got too many jaggies, but if the 360 has no AA its “sharper”.
Dont know if py post will make sense to any of you but thats how it seems with every post on here.
Im an xbox36o only owner. In this battle, the 360 is more detail on all aspect. The 360 wins.
