Huge tie. The slight difference with hairs and such is most likely due to the screen shots been taken a couple of milliseconds before or after.
Looks the same to me. Good work, SE!
Did someone say gimpbox 360?
Worse graphics and a worse frame rate. I would rather Versus XIII not come out at all than risk being held back by that overpriced DVD toaster.
id rather be able to play a game at all then not graphics whore
Ps3 was gimped down to shitbox level…
I was gonna yell at you for being stupid, but then I looked at the username. I love you, Cerna.
-TRF
I’d rather spend extra money as I did and have both systems to enjoy the best games of both. Plus the Wii!
Visually it’s a huge step back compared to FFXIII on PS3. I feared that much as footage from the Japanese retail versions went online and the English demo confirmed it. The hair looks way worse, as do the character models.
Somehow I get the idea SE really tried to appease MS this time: exclusive, if crappy and cheap (80 MSP), content and downgraded graphics to level the playing field. Don’t get me even started on the lack of SE’s jaw-dropping 1080p FMVs safe for the intro and cliff-hanger-ending-scene on the BluRay disc.
In Type-0 and vsXIII I trust =)
No that’s bullshit. What they did is to add more effects and bigger environments with more objects. Did you even play the demo? Try spending at least 5 minutes inside the town you start in. Draw distance is good and I never noticed pop ins while in town. I suspect they used FXAA or some type of post processing AA filter because it looks slightly blurrier than FX13 (which may be why you’re bitching about the hair and that the character models looking worse – which they don’t). BTW, the reason FF13 was so poor on the 360 is because it was a quick port which didn’t even utilize tiling in order to maximize the potential of the eDram. Instead it was squeezed into lower res in order to make the process as quick and easy as possible. FF13-2 is however a very decent port this time around and it’s not because the game was gimped.
The only reason they both look similar is due to the fact that SE dumbed down the graphics of the PS3 version so both versions look the smae.
Once again M$ is holding the whole games industry back with its $hitty ass console
“Looks great on PS3. Saw the lamebox version at my friends house and it look nowhere near as good as the PS3. The difference between them was teh smae as FFXIII. $HITBOX has lowwer res textures, longer load times and doesnt run in HD. SE should have just kept teh FF series exclusive to Sony coz ever sense they started bringing them out for lamebox, they’ve had to dumb them down too much just so teh average lamebox player can play them” thats your post on the thread before this one, so first the Xbox version is nowhere near the ps3 one, and now they are similar. It is because of fanboys like you that there are these pointless console wars.
Just wanna ask you one question, answer nothing else but the question, please.
If XIII-2 has been downgraded so the xbox version might look the same as the ps3 version…
¿Why not even the ps3 can deliver a solid framerate? Ok, the xbox has worse fps(they say)…but the ps3 can’t show 30 fps without noticiable drops.
How is that..or you seriously think MS paid so that could happend.
No it’s not. XIII looked better on PS3 than 360, so obviously it’s not holding the game back. SE is just lazy.
People like you that bring absolutely nothing to the table except for hateful comments with absolutely no factual support should be auto-thumbed down.
Identical, as expected. I do miss the smooth frame rate of the first game, though. Well, I don’t really care, since I’m waiting for price to drop, anyway. *Sigh* Man, sure hope Nomura would start showing the public some new footage of Versus XIII soon, because its official website is obviously starving for a new update.
@Lens of Truth
I would like one for Choplifter HD, Rayman Origins, and Trine 2, too, please!
And of course, full Head2Head for Final Fantasy XIII-2, Never Dead, and Soul Calibur V at the end of the month.
This is a very good job, Square enix is an example of great skill.
Wow this is the prime example of Xbox holding back this gen. Jeez the graphics has taken a step back!
yeah xbox is holding back the gaming industry by not be able to fit 40g worth of videos on the disc…. what a shame…
How? XIII looked WAY better on PS3 than 360, so obviously Square Enix could have replicated that. Either this is a very early build and the PS3 version looks better, or Square Enix is lazy as hell and doesn’t want to use each console to its full power like last time (probably because XIII-2 is nothing but a cash-in).
Serah’s tits are bigger and have better AA on the ps3 version
Absolutely identical. There is no way to distinguish between one and the other. Which, as a PS3 owner, I am not sure is a good thing. The game went from 3 DVDs to 1 in the X360. I’d like a comparison between FF XIII and FF XIII-2, like with Skyrim vs Oblivion.
Looks a far better port than the horrendous previous game.
Whether the game is worth playing though is the big question.
The last one was a typical borefest(like so many of the ps3′s games).
I just hope this has some gameplay this time.
Less cutscenes, more gameplay thank you very much.
What’s funny is, you’re such a hypocritical little troll that you’ll completely change that sentiment if you find that the 360 version is still sub-HD and gameplay is EXTREMELY similar to the first one (which it is if you’ve played the demo… But your troll ass probably hasn’t). FFXIII is extremely underrated because it’s a slow starter and a lot of reviewers are chickenshit half-assers who didn’t have the balls or patience to play it past the first quarter mark. From there on out FFXIII really shines and exhibits many phenomenal moments of gameplay. Too bad the 360 version was so visually horrible but it’s true that this one has been graphically gimped as charity to the 360 and MS paying for exclusive favors.
@ANDROID123
Less hypocrisy thank you very much!
One thing i don’t understand… why do ppl still playing this series “facepalm”?
Yes… i was FF whore and played it until FF10… after that
this game isn’t FF anymore. Just a bunch of emo dudes and girls
with a horrible story and new crappy game style and NOT a true JRPG.
Not surprised. CAPCOM killed it’s legendary games so do Square Enix did.
I keep playing FF games because they are still the best JRPG in the market. Then I don’t think that CLoud or Squall were less emo than the next characters. Actually they are the MOST emo of them all! Well, maybe Lulu outperforms them both, but as a female. :p
Graphics are alright, but I played it earlier and it was fucking awful.
This is sad, They took so much heat from Microsoft that they had to par back the PS3 version this time.
The 360 Version will lose this H2H anyway.
There are already comparison Videos of the japanese Retail Version on YT and it turned out that the PS3 wins this category.
It performs slightly better and the screen tear percentage is also a little lower.
I don’t mind it because I had a ton of fun with FFXIII on 360.
Yeah the CGs looked like shit compared to the PS3 Version but it was still fun for me.
The Demo of the Sequel was really good and I am looking forward to this game.
I think it’s safe to say that it’s an uninteresting H2H. Parity FTW!
Good job SE.
I noticed the characters feel a lot more responsive to control and move around the environment compared to the previous game. In FXIII, they move like tanks, which wasn’t really bad or anything, just slow enough to get noticed. They prolly tweaked their animation systems. Granted, control responsiveness isn’t exactly that impactful to jrpgs.
Art direction definitely takes centre stage in terms of visual presentation. My impression of the tech is still so so. Geometry in the environments seem relatively basic if you compare it to, say, even the original Uncharted; which in my opinion, seemed to have pushed more polygons and visual effects.
However, I firmly believe you don’t need state of the art or any new fangled graphics engines to render beautiful games. FXIII-2 is a testament to this as it is indeed a skillfully crafted vision to behold. (As long as Sarah is not in the picture, she spoils it all with her hooker looking clothes).
Wow. i think the hair and AA are worse in this one.
the demo seems a tie, but arent ome of the graphics not all downloaded in a demo? I.e XBOX 360 demo:2gb PS3 demo:2gb
Full retail: Xbox 360:6-7gb PS3: 20+GB ??
if thats the case i think the xbox and ps3 version will look better than this and the ps3 version will win by a bit.
either way, i’m not really sold. havnt been that interested since i got bored of number 10.
the ps1 days were the greatest, when squaresoft knew their shit.
Pretty funny seeing all the PS3 fanboys rage about “hurr the graphics have been dumbed down”. No they haven’t, there’s been a few tweaks but it looks pretty much the same as 13.
Also, i’ll have you know that the 360′s framerate is horrendous:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YBUHlBIOUs&feature=channel_video_title
So yeah, graphically they match but performance is still just as terrible as 13 for 360.
I played both Xbox360 and PS3 demos. There is a significant difference in fps especially in rain environments. I strongly recommend the PS3 version!
If there’s a difference visually, I am just not seeing it.
Anyway, I bought the PS3 version of Final Fantasy 13, so I’ll be buying the PS3 version of 13-2 because apparently, you unlock bonus content if it detects 13 save files on your system. That’s what I’ve heard anyway.
But, you could really buy either version and I don’t think it would really make a big difference. I can’t speak for framerates and whatnot because I personally haven’t seen how each perform (I’m not going to comment on a matter I am currently ignorant on), but visually, they seem to be identical.
Now all we need is a review to see how the game itself actually performs – as a game and not a piece of art. Lol.
Hmmmmm… Hair looks ugly.
That’s how games should be developed. No difference between both of them whatsoever. Take note, Infinity Ward. Maybe you’ll learn how shit MW3 was for the PS3…
Nice! Easy win for Playstation 3
They both look like crap in the close-ups, but equally so. I’m torn, because it’s impressive that they both look the same but neither looks particularly good. I’m sure the PS3 version will look better by the time the game launches because that was the case with XIII and I don’t expect Square Enix to put THAT much effort into improving a cash-in title graphically.
Anybody else getting that feeling that no matter how good Final Fantasy XIII-2 looks, I just can’t really give a crap about it because of how much I hated XIII.
As close a tie as you would get. The only REAL difference is the 360′s compression artifacts, but they only affect trhe pre-rendered cut scene’s and just the limitation of the DVD, not the system itself. Game looks rubbish regardless.
The ps3 has a 4fps average advantage(cut scenes especially)and less compression, but it’s a close game on either format.
Both are full 720p with AA which is nice to see, if i wanted the game i’d get it on ps3(lead version and all)but the last one was horrendous(yep i bought it on ps3).
Looks like another solid ps3 port to the very efficient 360 though
And it has far more advantage in weather heavy situations. Crystal tools is a versatile engine which allows a very specific and slight downgrades while porting (in this case from PS3 to Xbox360), there is no telling how different the game is going to be in rest of the areas which are very many. I highly recommend PS3 version if you have a choice.
Visually, this game it’s a huge step back compared to FFXIII on PS3!
What a shame…
Having played both on Jap import the PS3 has quite an edge over 360 as in FF13… Overall the performance and visuals flair is nicer and more natural on PS3… Still damm good on 360 though!
Hmmm these graphics seem to be a noticeable downgrade from FF13 (at least on the PS3). Not too big of a deal, but just something I liked FF13 for was its amazing graphics. These are just great, not amazing, but I wasn’t expecting a huge leap anyway so whatever. I’m sure they are processing a lot more or the worlds are bigger so that’s why.
It looks almost identical, can’t wait this game to be out.
Nice job by the square enix…. for those who said that ps3 version is downgraded they are just haters and ps3 fan boys, do you think that sony ps3 would let it happen just to make the graphics look identical to 360? No,it would not happen.
I think we should wait, stop being haters and enjoy the GaME…
Well I’m a huge fan of this series and glad to see it looking so good on Xbox 360. Great effort by Square as compaired to the rush last minute port they did the last time. Only second try for this engine on the mighty 360. Can’t wait to see what comes next from them.
“Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made.” –John Carmack
You know, you REALLY need to find another quote. John Carmacks credibility went even further down the toilet after the buggy disaster that was RAGE. Even PC version has recieved many a bad review. So much for its genre defining revolution. thts what happens when your ego out weighs your ability.
This is a tie, however the overall graphics are a slight step down from XIII.
Hair are looking horrible because they have alpha issues.Considering that XIII didnt have alpha issues you can clearly see that is has been downgraded.
You guys argue which system makes the game look better, but I say this is a fruity and dumb game that no self-respecting man should be playing. It is fun that you can add creatures to your party, but it is as before; artificially prolonged battles, girls look like they are starving, bad voice acting, and absurd plot.
Wait for a quality RPG such as Mass Effect 3 or Kingdoms of Amalur
There’re some morons post on LOT, how is the 360 holding back the industry, never heard so much crap in all my days. The blame lays squarely at the feet of the developers, can’t you folk see that? Its down to the developers to get the best from each machine, if they’re to lazy to push the PS3 to its limit, how is that MS/360′s fault?????
