*To ensure color accuracy from the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U output, the PlayStation 3 has RGB Full Range set to "Full" and Super White "On", and the Xbox 360 has Reference Level set to "Expanded" and HDMI Color Space set to "RGB". Our capture card we have captured segments from the AVS HD 709 . Blu-ray, HD DVD, & MP4 Calibration suite.
As you will see, each system matches each other at the SOURCE LEVEL. No contrast or gamma settings are manipulated before or after capturing our images/videos. We strongly believe that these types of corrections are done on a individuals preference and should not be adjusted by us. 360 looks a bit sharper and has better foliage.
some textures actually look sharper on PS3 in some shots. Xbox has slightly better foliage as usual (but the difference is not as noticable as say, Red Dead Redemption.)
Over all the differences I see here would be unnoticable during gameplay, and barely noticable under close scrutiny of still shots.
The performce will decide, but so far, good parity has been achieved.
PS3 has better lighting- couldn’t tell on my work monitor but from home I could.
BADASSBAB since the game uses a deferred lighting system I believe the lighting is equal. The difference is most likely due to subtle differences in gamma/contrast or post processing effects. I cannot explain the extra light source in the picture with the female archer, after all, one extra light should have very little effect on performance with deferred lighting system.
I think I’ve found out about that extra light source after playing the demo. On the PS3 the main character has a lantern equipped but not on the xbox 360. Frame rate seem to be sub 30fps for the most part on PS3 but it’s fairly consistent and I see no screen tearing.
if they used the excellent Xbox 360 upscale to 1080p, and the reference level (black levels) in expanded sempreo xbox 360 would have a big advantage vs the ps3
and the photo would look much better
page 1-360 better
page 2-ps3 better
I agree with that, some shots the lighting looks better on Ps3, some textures look better on 360. played the Demo was unimpressed.
this is very very true…i had the same feeling.
MT Framework games run better on the Xbox, the only advantage on PS3 will be V-Sync, but the FPS go all the way down.
Should be pretty close, a little better on 360.
I say 360 looks better, but the game looks terrible overall.
The 360 has better usage of alpha effects(foliage)slightly better shadowing, sharper image as usual. The PS3 has better lighting.I’d say a tie.C’mon Max Payne 3 come out already,if it’s gonna be better on Atari 2600 i dont care:P
The ps3 has a bit of grass missing cmon dont deny it but thats not to sa its a bad thing they both look close but I prefer the xbox version over all
Absolutely PS3
but to be honest they look kinda similar … at some pics xbox is slightly sharpner (i mean very very slight) but in other pics specially in doors one PS3 shines … with a better textures and color … Fanboyism aside, i would say PS3 is slightly better (specially indoors)
While there are differences here and there, I personally think those are rather negligible and will probably be overlooked during the course of gameplay. Differences in performance, however, will probably be interesting to look at.
@Lens of Truth
What are your impressions of both versions’ performance?
360 version looks better
From these screen shots, I’d say it was a tie. The PS3 has some missing shadows on foliage in the distance. However the lighting seems a lot better in some of these screen shots. I’ve played the demo on my 360 and PS3 and the 360 version seems to have this washed-out effect. The PS3 has more framerate dips here and there but the 360 version suffers from a lot more screen tear… personally I’ll be getting this on PS3 (:
Texture details seems to be better on 360 in some places and better on PS3 in others. So basically its down to whether you’d rather have a faster frame rate and screen tear or visa versa
eek, what happened to 360 lighting?
Anyway, 360 seems sharper overall, but hard to tell with the gamma being out on both so badly, although there seems other shots where ps3 seems sharper in places, mainly indoors. and the greater amount of foliage (foliage just dont agree with ps3 it seems lol) whilst ps3 has infinitely better lighting.
Performance will decide everything really
What I don’t get is what is it with the 360 and the huge amounts of crushed blacks in every game, they didn’t start out that way yet now every game is like auto crush black
@suarez07
Well if washed out foggy look of the over priced internet ready screens is what you consider better lighting then you’re right.
The reason that foliage is a problem for the over priced internet ready blu ray player is the bandwidth inferiority of the over priced internet ready blu ray player’s architecture. Foliage is created using alpha blending which requires lots of bandwidth, which the over priced internet ready blu ray player has very little of when compared to SUPERIOR Xbox 360 architecture. 7 years and still kicking the over priced internet ready blu ray player’s a$$, no mandatory install required LOL.
“Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made.” –John Carmack
Framerate comparison?
FPS better ps3 or XBOX?
actually most of the ps3 pics looks sharper than the xbox and so slightly better in lighting almost identical ,and the ps3 have better ssao in some pix.
the ps3 has slightly better HDR
Has LoT become a Screenshot Comparison site?
Hard to tell, some pictures are better on PS3 and others on X360. I tested it on both my PS3 and X360 and could not se any diffrence when I swaped…
But I noticed some more screen tear on the X360, not a game breaker but it’s there.
In smaller more enclosed areas, the PS3 looks better, if in the wide open areas, the 360 looks better. Probably because overall the PS3 is more powerful, but outside looks better on the 360 because more memory.
outside = higher usage of alpha textures , and therefore like you said (kinda) ram, which isnt in over abundance on ps3, hence reduced foliage, so that’s probably impacting on the outside screenshots.
negligible overall though in both cases.
Still cant get over the lighting on 360 though, wtf???
Sort of agree. PS3 can look better indoors cause it can stream data quicker from it’s faster main ram and use the Cell to offload GPU tasks. Outdoors though where wide open spaces are used, 360 handles it better cause it has more better shader abilities and more ram available.
Somebody turned off the lights in the Xbox version xD
Thats cause of the crazy mad crushed blacks in like every single game here lately some games just handle it better….Those games don’t have better brightness or better blacks its that they are all crushed thats exactly why blacks are so strong
i heard the stupid bug of MTF for 360 version still there if you set in 1080p
is that true?
Thats cause the 360 doesn’t do real 1080p they do real 720p which most games run at then upscale without there being a true 360 1080p. It can’t do real 1080p. It can and does actually hurt some games when you upscale to higher than it’s meant to do
it’s not about res,it’s about glitch
Actually 360 can do Full HD 1080p but like PS3 only on simple games. Also 360 has a dedicated hardware scaler so it can upscale all it’s games to 1080p without a performance hit.
About 720p this is what Redlynk of Trials HD/Evolution fame had to say about it-
“We did some research and the conclusion was that basically no native 1280x720p television sets were ever sold worldwide. 1366×768 was/is the most common HD-ready “720p” TV resolution, and 1080p sets were getting much more common during the last two and half years since the launch of Trials HD. We didn’t see any reason to support native 1280×720 rendering anymore, as basically all TV sets would scale the image up, and nobody would see the game unscaled at perfect 1:1 pixel ratio. So we went slightly sub-HD (but at proper 16:9 this time) and let the high-quality Xbox 360 scaler hardware do the upscaling to the TV native resolution.”
lol
The band of hobgoblins on 360 have more muscles, bigger in size, and one on the right side has bare ass cheeks on 360, while the PS3 hobgoblin in the same position has some kind of grey loin cloth. That is funny.
This is one of those games that probably look same on average, but differ in frame rate by a lot like Mass Effect 3.
The hell happened to the 360 version in the 3rd to last shot?
Doesn’t look like either commands a huge advantage over the other. I’m downloading the demo on both the PS3 and 360, so I’m hoping they’re both practically the same.
Both had their pros and cons, looks like a tie so far. But I voted PS3 cause I like PS3.
You don’t say?!
hahaha
This will most likely be the best multiplat released so far this year(doesn’t say much at all though considering how crappy they’ve all been). So hopefully PS3 will win this one.
Im an xbox36o only owner. In this battle, the 360 is more detailed and vibrant on all aspect. The 360 wins.
Head 2 Head Record Battles
360/ps3
Sniper Elite V2 – PS3 Wins 0-1
I Am Alive – Xbox360 Wins 1-1
Prototype 2 – Xbox360 wins 2-1
Dragons Dogma – Xbox360 wins 3-1
Aside from minor gamma differences they are equal visually. Anyone saying otherwise is delusional fanboy bulls***. They both suffer from pop in and some frame drops but the only obvious difference is in performance. the PS3 demo is vsynced while the 360 demo tears like a mofo. if you haven’t noticed this glaring difference you either haven’t played the demos yet or you’re just a liar. it can be noticed immediately. secondly, this game looks phenomenal in action. it may not look very stellar in stills but in motion it is a technical marvel seeing it running smoothly on today’s console hardware. the monster animations are so lifelike and seeing them function the way they do in realtime in an open environment is very impressive. extremely fun demo. I hope the full game is even better.
See for yourselves. Near full build of PS3 version.

Near full build of 360 version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrCiV4LOYk4
This is even more complete code than the demos. Observe the absence of tearing in the PS3 version and frequent tearing in the 360 version.
That’s how it’s like for all games running on Capcom’s MT Framework engine. Tearing on the 360, vsynced tear free performance on PS3.

Expect the same results for Resident Evil 6.
oh and PS360 did the performances btw
http://ps360.ldblog.jp/archives/53618921.html
360 Avg:28.014fps Min-Max:23.0-30.0fps Tear:27.391%(27.391%)
PS3 Avg:23.512fps Min-Max:18.0-30.5fps Tear:0.000%(0.000%)
A quite simple Tie : PS3 best indoors, X360 best outdoors ! The next performances analysis will seal the deal…
Here’s the analysis of the demo (Countryside Quest):
PS3: •
youtube.com/watch?v=srCzanzUy-o&hd=1360: •
youtube.com/watch?v=e-LIE5WdzlY&hd=1The PS3 version stays at 24fps most of the time and went as low as 18fps went things got really…busy (no where as bad as the Souls series though), but it has a good redeeming point, there is absolutely no screen-tear whatsoever. The Xbox 360 version on the other hand, in addition to having a whole lot of screen-tearing, also can’t really maintain the targeted 30fps and will dips quite low at times but generally though, it’s running at a higher framerate than its PS3 counterpart. I sure hope Capcom would sort out the problem in the final build, because the performance is rather disappointing when the game is already running at sub-HD resolution (I’d say more or less 1280×608) on both versions.
I just watched that and the 360′s average framerate was about 28fps which is quite playable but it’s tearing is horrendous.
The PS3 on the other hand is mercifully tear free but it averaged out at 23/24fps which imo is quite low and not really good enough for an action game.
PS3 version looks better but noone is a winner here, only less of a loser. Shame on capcom for this. Still probably the best multiplat so far this year.
@Bab as a fellow multiplat player of both PC and console I can relate to the coveted holy trail standard of no lower than 60 fps for PC games and no lower than 30 fps for console games. however, I think you’re seriously overreacting about 28 or even 23-24 fps not being good enough for an action game. I’ve played the demos for both a multitude of times scrutinizing it and it’s not significant enough to put any damper on enjoyment. the combat is so fluid and responsive and hit detection so accurate that the sub 30 framerate is hardly noticeable. I’ve sampled it on multiple displays from two different gaming monitors to an HDTV and the fps is just fine for the game that it is. 23-24 fps makes a substantial difference when playing first person shooters but it’s practically a nonfactor here.
*holy grail meant to say…geez what’s with the edit button?

prototype df analysis for those that care
As soon as I heard it was using the same game engine as Saints Row 3 I knew the PS3 would take the win. Just goes to show it really does depend on which platform the game was coded for would usually be better off.
has this idea it uses saints row 3 engine got any basis in reality, because it is officially using Titanium 2.0 , which is their own custom engine apparently, and there’s no connection between the games with devs or publishers, so unless titanium is a variation on the Saints row third engine, I cant see how this is possible. Im even less convinced when you think, well surely Titanium 1 was uses for Prototype, and Saints row Third was developed later, so how can they be same engine?
360 is sharper in certain areas, but the PS3 has better texture and colors in most shots. I say PS3 has the edge, but they are very close nonetheless.
I still say 360 is a clear win because of the bigger, muscular, more realistic hobgoblins. Look at those maximus gluti
Your obsession with muscular looking goblins is slightly disturbing. im pretty certain that if you look around you can either get help, or find others with same fetish. Just keep it off here please, there’s children who visit the site
i have played both demos there is no lighting diff its just the point the shots were took one thing that sticks out big time was there is slight tear in the xbox but nothing major but its smooth playing no tear in ps3 but the fps is god awful near unplayable its in a full state of frame drop 20 fps at least and if you would rather play a game at that 20 fps rather than a drop of tear and 30 fps you would need to be mad we tip if you set you xbox to 720p it looks even sharper turns of the upscale you dont need to on ps3 it doesn’t try to upscale anyway
Can you tell me how I can look at the screen and actually identify screen tear? I play games on both systems, but mostly on 360. Is tear the diagonal line that appears for a split second sometimes?
and did anyone try dirt 4 codemasters still cant get the ps3 versions right xbox one is far better ps3 real bad tear and fps drop xbox has none of them problems and it even looks better seems to be running better aa but still looks more detailed and sharp which is great because the game looks stunning i play on a 50inc 3d plazma so i do tend to see these things
Although I will agree that Codemasters aren’t such masters lol, I would like to know where you got hands on time with this supposed Dirt “four”?
He was probably describing his experience with the recently released demo of DiRT: Showdown which, in all honesty, only looks ever-so-slightly better on the Xbox 360 (in still shots, but better none the less.) Also, while the PS3 version does have quite a noticeable amount of screen-tears, its frame rate successful stays at solid 30fps throughout the demo, much like its Xbox 360 counterpart (which, insignificant as it is, also does tear occasionally.)
Here! These are the analysis videos to back that up:
My’s Gwan Ta Beez Playin It On Ze Bofe Macharinas Ta Fine Out For Meself And Then Not Buy It.
Honestly, if you get this game for any system, they look exactly the same and you you’ll enjoy it equally. In my honest opinion, the 360 looks a smidge better than PS3, but recieves the RE6 demo two months before PS3. That’s what I used for my judgement and got the 360 edition.
360 was pretty bad in performance!! Lag and slowdown was much worse than PS3… this was stated in many reviews! Like Ghose Recon, not a great game anyway so most gamers wont be to bothered?.
Textures on the 360 are tad better but overall i give it to the ps3 lighting looks better.
