I’ll be honest, I had completely forgotten about this game. I didn’t get a chance to get it when it came out cuz I wanted other games more, but now that it got all these updates and shit I might have to go get it….It’s prolly much cheaper used now too so that’s a good thing.
Because I haven’t played it I don’t really know how big of an update it REALLY is….somebody who plays this game can they please tell me if this is a huge update or what?
This one alone is 1.1GB. You’ll probably need to download the thousand updates before it though. Lol
I dunno if you mean in terms of size (MB/GB) or as in how many things it addresses. If the latter, read on.
The game was released pretty rough around the edges. The game felt almost incomplete, but the driving model was excellent.
There have been some smaller updates between release and Spec 2.0 that fixed minor issues. Spec. 2.0 addresses many of the bigger issues and it’s pretty much what people were expecting the game to be on release.
Though still not perfect, I think GT5 in it’s current state is a VERY solid racing sim now. I was fairly happy with GT5 when it was released simply because the driving model was so good and that alone made it fun. Now it’s just that much more complete and polished.
Judging by user comments on various gaming forums, it seems to me that GT5 is really for the hardcore racing sim fans or car enthusiasts. Many gamers that are used to games like NFS etc., are somewhat disappointed and find it boring. To me, it’s quite the opposite. Even Forza has a lot of things to make it try to please both crowds and make it more accessible for non-hardcore racing sim fans. That’s why I personally think the past 2 Forza games have been rated by published gaming sites higher than GT5 but GT always seems to outsell Forza.
True. Especially about the GT5 aimed at hardcore petrol heads…..like me!!! lulz
People the cockpit view is stage one, there will be continuous updates to improve the cockpits, but then again this is me speculating.
You might be on to something there. The black silhouette is somewhat puzzling. Almost as if they are laying down the frame work for future enhancement. Otherwise….whats the point other than the head tracking??
Cockpits are exactly the same as they are in GTPSP. They never changed those, but I’d think the PS3 was a little more capable than the PSP. Hopefully you’re right. Wouldn’t hold my breath though. They’re already knee deep in GT6.
I downloaded it this morning and tbh, what I said was simply “meh”.
It didn’t really pull me back in as much as me just wanting to see what improved and then just turn the ps3 back off and it just made me feel like these features should’ve been in from the beginning.
The new intro is possibly the greatest one I have ever seen. It tops GT2′s intro IMO. Didn’t really get a chance to check out everything though but I’ll definitely want to spend a lot of time on it once I set up my G27 wheel which is finally officially supported.
Right now though I have my hands full with Forza 4. Amazing game even if the shifting animations are absolutely terrible. Lol
The one thing i really like about Forza is the Manual with clutch option. Even with all the assists turned off the game still feels way to easy, Gran turismo 5 feels more real to me. I was not impressed with the Forza 4 demo either. The graphics are not all that great and still has that “cartoony” look to it, While Gran turismo has a more natural look.
IGN creamed thier pants over it, giving it 9.5/10. That is to be expected from them however……….
Metacritic has it at 92.
I wouldn’t call IGN biased at this moment since nearly everyone is “creaming their pants over it”.
They are a little. I rememeber reading the Killzone 3 review and it was almost insulting. Forza 4 looks petrol-head gasmic. No doubt about it. Still prefer the feel of GT5 though.
I know, that’s why I wrote “at this moment”. It’s accurate to have Forza 4 around 9.0-9.5
ahhhhh yes. True that.
That car looks like a Batmobile
I’m a little interested in GT5 even though I’m not much into simulation driving. However, I’m not too fond of downloading many gigabytes of data and waiting endlessly after my ps3 to finish patching. I hope these patches make it to new copies soon.
Bit slow there aren’t we LOT??? ThiS news is old as!!!!! Too little too late though I’m afraid. Forza 4 has taken the crown I’d say….. Oh, and don’t forget the Top grear track now has a standing start feature.
Where are real time weather conditions (that influence the car performances of course) in FM4?
Where is day to night real time cycle?
Where are real car lights?
Ah… yeah, I forgot: Turn 10 said that they cannot implement these things unless they pare back everything to a very very basic point.
And unless they don’t make the game run at 30 fps.
Ops…

Actually depending on the temperature of the track, the tires react accordingly.
Whereas in GT5 using Racing soft during the day, they will heat up and wear at the same rate during night even though the drastic change in temperature.
It may not be as noticeable as rain but based on their explanation why they couldn’t do it, I don’t mind and fully agree. Better to wait for better tech and do it right or do it half-assed now.
Don’t get me wrong, I am behind GT5 all the way. Forza 4 is lacking ALOT of key ingredients that make a game a simulator. But, it still seems to be epic and I am being open minded, not a blind fanboy. I know turn ten would of done everything possible to ensure they rise above the short comings of GT5.
Mauro you should check out the performance analysis of GT5 in those weather conditions, your looking at around 40-50fps + screen tearing in 720p mode and in 1080p and 3D it’s even worse (as low as 16fps in 3D). Even during daytime GT5 has a variable frame rate and a fair bit of screen tear and the track detail is very low.
This is why Turn 10 won’t implement weather conditions cause this gen can’t handle it at the performance target they’ve set (720p/60fps/360hz)

Btw I’ve been playing FM4 demo and booted up GT5 Spec 2.0 (good move by Sony) and I have to see GT5 looked real plain BUT there are moments in the game when the engine really shines and it looks almost photo realistic (unlike FM4 which still has a video game look to it). Also GT5 is much more difficult. I can turn off all the assists in FM4 and still do pretty well but in GT5 doing that means driving with pinpoint accuracy.
People complains for nothing.
They forget that all this stuff is free.
Great Polyphony! They gave us a game that improves every day without making us to spend any money.
@LoT : We want a H2H GT5/GT5 2.0 ! Somebody told me (in technical aspect) that GT5 2.0 have no more tearing, no more framerate drops and smoother shadows, it could be interesting to compare before and after this update !
… then maybe, another H2H : Forza 4 vs GT5 2.0
They’re full of sh*t. The game still tears up, drops frames and the shadows are the same. However the loading times have been drastically reduced. I cannot believe how blazing fast they are now.
I think there’s something wrong with your TV mate. I play on a 42″ Panasonic Viera 600hz and there is zero tearing or framedrops on GT5.
I get tearing and frame drops on mine when negotiating a hair-pin turn with cars in front of me. 42″ LCD TECO.
@Samchez77 “I get tearing and frame drops on mine when negotiating a hair-pin turn with cars in front of me. 42″ LCD TECO.”
See the last bit of your post. That’s your problem right there. PS3 is supposed to be used with PLASMA. Look at all the setup options in the PS3 video menu, Deep Colour etc, It’s all fine tuned for Plasma displays. When Sony demo games and so on they always use Plasma displays, LCD’s are a western thing. I have a 32 inch full HD Sammy and I admit it does Tear and stutter a tiny ammount, On the Panny, ZERO.
Really? I didn’t know that! When I bought my T.V, I actually got it with games in mind (you know, the HUD burn in possibility with Plasma’s that don’t pixel shift balh blah) and I also read that LCD’s are much more vibrant with animated movies and games due to thier limited colour range, thats why tv shops always have disney Pixar movies playing on LCD’s in the show room. Should of went with Plasma then. Learn and burn I guess.
I bet the LOT H2H is Forza 4 vs GT5 first edition from 2010!! LULz. you know, the “out of box policy and all”. Oh wait……..
The best racing game is now even better. Now I don’t have to buy Forza 4. Saved me £40. I don’t like Forza much anyway.
almost 6 years later and you give me simplified cockpit views? no ty! next time dont promess what u cant make.
What exactly did they promise that they didn’t deliver on? From I recall they had confirmed all of the flaws the game will have months before the game released. We all should have known what to expect so don’t call them out on something that isn’t true.
Fantastic
More content for teh best racing sim ever. Feel sorry for all the xbots who are stuck with that lame forza series were all teh cars handle like bumper cars.
guys, I know it’s impossible but do you think a Porsche is among the DLC cars
oh I mean a premium.
So getting this next year
I bought the Signature Edition of GT5 for 150 notes, Pre-Ordered and received on release day, I’m a bit peeved that Polyphony have not taken this into account and want more cash for the DLC. I would have thought they could reward my dedication with some freebies
I love the GT series and I have a Platinum trophy on GT5, Clocking over 90,000 miles of game time. It’s an excellent game and well worth it. Now the price reduction has come into play it’s unmissable really.
I suppose the tracks and car pack is all I’m interested in though and It’s not priced that bad at all compared to other games. Great stuff.
The 2.0 update is brilliant, infact the game is constantly being updated so If you played it near release and didn’t like it, Give it another go, it feels like a totally different game now, Especially online.
See you on the track.
i want the batmobile.
and any car with boobs painted on the back.
but not the batmobile. it would only have one with a fire shooting nipple. and.. no thats all
D/L 2.0 last night… First thing i noticed was faster loading for races, much faster. I had not switched this game on for a few months..Never liked serious in the past but GT5 had me hooked for over 25 hours!!, its a HUGE game. Its still more realistic than FORZA and has more natural GFX. The premium cars look better than Forza 4′s cars and you get weather and night day changes, lighting is much better on GT5 too.. Im not saying GT5 is a better overall game than FORZA 4, but its more real. FORZA still has that slight plastic look to some textures and does not feature 16 cars on a track like GT5. If you have both consoles, have both games

gt5 & forza 4 comparison vid. I honestly think GT5 looks better, although alittle dull but thats due to the overcast day.
Indeed, and this video is Why GT5 is by far the best simulator out the 2.

Forza is a good game, but it is very arcady and not a sim atall but it is good fun, its quite easy and feels like others say bumber cars. GT5 is very very realistic, almost too realistic lol
Forza relies heavily on more cartoony graphics heavy motion blur and simplified easy controlls, and is a very good fun arcade game and easy to pick up and play.
GT5 and its engine ar optimised to look and feel amazing realistic with not fake motion blur but what you actually see. The controlls and car handiling characterstics are again very realistic and harder to master and take time to learn, I would say is slightly less fun than Forza but has mor longevity
I recently re-purchased GT5 because for this new DLC. I do agree the update will be at least 1gig and the constant updates are annoying.
I just hope it is good bacause Forza 4 is amazing.
I can’t put this game down. If you own both consoles you owe it to yourself as gamers and car lovers to try this game.
GT 5 is better than FORZA 4 the reviews are BS Microsoft pays 80% reviewers to boost the score and Sony doesn’t hence the score difference. I Love Gran Turismo!!! =]
