WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN…
by Warner Bros Interactive’s ‘take’?
Are you implying that different PPL worked on this title, as opposed to back at Midway? If so, maybe they could have brought the gameplay and style up to scratch as opposed to this usual sub-par 3D MK affair that has been plaguing us since Deadly Alliance. Once again, the gameplay on offer here looks dated, rigid, painful and unenjoyable. MK4 looks to play better than this.
On the plus side the GFX look rather nice, if not a tad goofy. Great to see the Lin Kuei back in their MK2 style outfits again. Shame Reptile looks like, err… a Reptile as per MK4. Fact: Keep him ‘Ninj’ to keep him win.
Overall though, it’s a shame, because in the RIGHT hands, the MK universe is brimming with potential. ‘Whoever’ is in charge should’ve hired 8ing/Eighting or Dimps to develop it instead imo…
Thanks for the comment Neo Geo Ninja.Im a huge MK fan and I really enjoyed this demo. The gameplay and controls are almost identical to MK4 minus the run button. I didn’t get enough time to polish up the combos but the game is smoother than my playing looks. We wanted to gedt the post out so I couldn’t spend as much time with each character that I wanted to. It brought me back to the early days of MK and this fan can’t wait till April 19th
Thanks Again

What game are you looking at? This sh#$t looks awesome. I’ve been on other websites where people are saying the same thing, that this MK looks bad. Are you people blind. I’ve played it, and let me tell you this looks better than any MK thats ever been released. Try playing it before making stupid comments.
I’ve already got my pre order for the special edition. can’t wait for this game. i’ve always been a HUGE MK fan, and it’s always been my fav fighting series. This looks to be one of, if not, the best MK games ever! April seriously can’t get here fast enough
@RUDESOLE..
Hi. It may LOOK better than any MK that’s ever been released IYO (and most others too no doubt!) and I’ll likely agree that the visual standard on offer here looks great. But my concerns don’t really lie with how ‘awesome’ the GFX look or how ‘awesome’ the gore or fatalities are; my concerns lie in the gameplay. Or thereby, lack of it.
It’s rather plain to see for anyone who plays fighting games enough (they’re my preferred/No.1 genre!) to see that the gameplay… the GAMEPLAY… seemingly has really NOT come on since Deadly Alliance first appeared back in ’01. Hell, Deadly Alliance, as well as the uncomfortable and stiff gameplay was at LEAST made more interesting by the ability to switch between THREE whole different fighting styles PER character – the third being weapon based. The game was actually pretty cool for 2001 and an interesting new direction for MK… a DECADE ago.
There’s nothing wrong with keeping it in 3D overall, but it’s obvious that whilst the GFX and (unnecessary OTT!) gore factor has received an overhaul, the gameplay has not. I DON’T have to physically play the game to make such judgement. I’m experienced enough to ascertain this just from watching the video.
It all takes me back to the day when MK1 originally came about and PPL made such wild comments as “F*ck! This is even better than SFighter 2!!”. Those PPL my friend were on a different planet. MK1, or indeed, MK in general has always been style (gore?) > substance, but then some PPL prefer that over gameplay mechanics. Not me. No doubt, there IS fun AND enjoyment to be had with this ‘new’ MK, however, I see the game transparently and, as such, I see a VERY average gaming experience unfolding here. Not ‘awesome’, but ‘OK’ at best.
YOUR 3X…
‘thumbs down’ understand EXACTLY what I’m talking about Numbnuts!!!
I willing to buy a Ps3 just to play NOW the demo of this game.
I think is good to go back to the first MK gameplay, to the main idea that made this game that great.
But i don’t like the voice of the guy who says “finish him”..hehehe…eventually i’ll get used to it…i guess.
‘No scheduled XBL demo as of yet?’ Looks like Sony’s finally getting its own back.
man the demo is great. I can’t stop playing it. I’m going to buy this for sure!
All i know is it’s the best mortal kombat i ever played.
Ohh btw the game is also in 3D and it works great!
I haven’t played the demo yet. No PSN Plus, but it looks amazing from these gameplay videos.
I don’t get fighting games as day one purchases anymore though. The reason why is that a lot of those that I have gotten I’ve really gotten bored of. However I’ll definitely pick this up when it drops to $30 or less.
Mind blowing game. I felt like a little kid again. :3
This will definitely be a day one buy. The roster looks pretty large and the trailer at the end of the demo had my hype meter overload.
Also, kudos to Netherrealm Studios for getting the UE3 to run at a rock solid 60FPS on the PS3!!!
Very impressive!
Holy shit it runs at a solid 60FPS? That’s better than what even Epic can get it to run at… I’m impressed, can’t wait for the demo next week, I’ll definitely be buying this day one, and the challenge mode will keep me occupied for a while! Cannot wait!
MORTAL KOMBAT!
They nailed the look of the game, amazing. And thanks for the video, really nice quality. If this has a good online multiplayer I will get it.
the tightness be tight!
i need this game.. i have the kollectors pre-ordered and a 3ds, and socom 4 bundle.. and then my MVS dies! new monitor will kill these buys! r.i.p. neogeo temporarily.. my first non xbox360 game system to die on me
Too much violence, the X-Ray thing looks really disturbing to me! I don’t have the nerve for this…
The game still has a cheesy atmosphere but it seems to look graphically good, though, and going back to 2D gameplay seems like a step in the right direction considering 3D MK’s were pretty much all terrible.
Being a Nintendo fan as a child, i never played much MK. I allways considered it inferior to Street Fighter or Killer Instinct. This one looks good though. Staying true to it’s roots, while improving in every way seems to definitely be the way foreward for MK. It worked for SF anyway.
Im a mk fan to death, but sadly, althought this game look amazing, i cant say the same about gameplay, that is still 3Dfied.
No offense but the MK we enjoyed years ago, died with UMK3. putting this franchise into 3D ground was the baddest mistake they did.
Hope WB release then MK HD Kollection….some day
My thoughts exactly, somehow the gameplay still seems 3D-ish, I hope we are wrong. Perhaps it is because the animations and even sound effects still resemble ‘MK vs DC Universe’, which I can’t say is a good sign.
There’s hoping this MK will feature a better AI. Most MK games had the AI simply counter your controller input with a perfect response (you jump, it anti-air, and so on). This was seriously frustrating specially on higher difficulties, with players trying to find gimmicks to abuse AI flaws to win.
based on neogeo’s rate downs, I may be in the minority here as well, but I gotta say, nothing about the gameplay itself looks at all appealing.
Clunky, boring, and stiff animations all around. The combos aren’t fluid looking at all, they just look all kinds of clumsy, and dated.
One good thing I will say about MK games though. I love the lore and storylines of the MK universe. I also think that the characters are by far the most badass of any fighting game. But that’s it really.
I love the characters, the artstyle, the lore and storyline, but the gameplay still looks weak to me. I will probably purchase this game anyway though, because with all the modes and extras, at least it seems they’re putting more work into the game than cap put into mvc3. Plus there’s the novelty of owning a current gen MK game. We’ll see how it turns out.
