First Look
In our next first look we’re excited to bring you the first few minutes of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Along with our HD gameplay video you’ll find some incredible looking screenshots to enjoy. As we said in our Head2Head, its been 8 years since the last Deus Ex game and we couldn’t wait to get this highly anticipated prequel in our hands. Has time been kind to the series? Wow I noticed A LOT of screen tear in that video. But that’s typical for a ps3 multiconsole release.
Graphics sure aint its strong point…. atleast made up with strong gameplay.

Too bad it’s just another first person game. I’m so sick of first person games… and I don’t like swords and horses… so I’m pretty much stuck.
I want more Uncharted-like games. The market is too saturated with the same types of games.

Nice and clean looking, a bit disappointed it looks like any other fps game but i’ve seen some of the early reviews.
They’ve been positive to say the least.
I’m sure it’ll get better than the small clip shown here.

I’m merely curious but the gamma level of the YouTube clip seems to be slightly lower than that of the screenshots, and personally, I find more pleasing to the eyes. It kind of makes me wonder if the Blackmagic Intensity Pro somehow makes the gamma level of captured screenshots higher than it should be.
Anyway, nice clip. My untrained eyes didn’t see any screen-tear or frame-rate drop, so I suppose that’s a good sign.
Heck, now I’m even more excited for the full analysis. Hopefully you guys can bring it out by the 23rd of August.

The top image is directly out if the gallery for the first look. The second image is what I used to create the rollover in the screenshot comparison. With that said, I think you tube’s compression has something to do with the gamma being off. Anyhow hope this helps

Also, the first and last screenshot from the above gallery seem have a lot of compression artifact. Are the source videos (I’m assuming they’re pre-rendered cutscenes) that poorly compressed to begin with? And since you guys have game case with you, may I ask if there is any Bink Video logo on it?

There’s only an option for adjusting the “luminosity” but not a brightness and contras option like one would imagine.
Yes they are pre-rendered cut scenes and no there’s no Bink video logo. As a matter of fact I updated the gallery with the back of the Xbox version. My brother has the PS3 one. :} I apologize for the picture quality in advance my camera is not the best.

LenseOfTruth, do you know the PS3 supported resolutions yet? Want to know if this game supports 1080i upscaled output or just 720p. Also is Eidos Montreal copyprotecting the savegame file? Those are going to be deal breakers for me. I pre-ordered for PS3 but need to know if I should swap it to 360 instead.

Hey Mike5GSR. I tried to upscale but it went back to 720p. I’m not sure if everyone will have the same results. Although, on the back of the PS3 case it only lists up to 720p. But like you said sometimes you can force it. Anyhow, the game is fun and looks great! I am really liking it. I might have to break out my PS2 and play the original

Thanks for the quick reply. I cancelled my pre-order for the PS3 version and changed it to 360. One of my TV’s is 1080i so it downscales 720p PS3 games to 480p. Playing on 360 also bypasses the potential heachache if the savegame is copyprotected.
My panasonic tv in bedroom is 1080i but doesn’t downscale to 480p, sounds like u got a dodgy tv there.
the only way u can force a ps3 game to 1080p is if it displays 1080i.
but that will just make it blurrier so it doesnt help and will make the game perform worse.
at mike go to ur ps3 settings and go to display settings go to custom and only select 1080i the vast majority of games support 1080i except for most exclusives. if that doesnt work buy a new tv since ur tv only does 480p and 1080i. seriousluy ur tv is ancient a good 720p 30inch cost about $400
First, try googling “We want 1080 support for PS3 games past and future”. Hopefully that will stop the uninformed changing display settings comments some are providing.

I know that this game has some hype behind, but it just looks meh to me. I heard it has recieved good reviews by a few sites already, but I still don’t know. I’ve got my hands full with PS3 exclusives for the rest of the year, so I doubt I’ll be picking this one up anytime soon.
Heres some food for thought for anyone who still believes Gears 3 will destroy Uncharted 3 for graphics, and why Uncharted 3 will be the best looking game this year.

Nah, I’ve got Resistance 3, Space Marine, Ratchet & Clank, Battlefield 3, MW3, and Rage to keep me held up until then.

I personally think uc3 will be overall more impressive, but gears 3 will run it very close, but it’s hard to compare in many ways, as uc3 will not be running full res alpha effects, whilst uc3 will probably have better lighting , better aa, and larger environments and post processing effects.
Each game will be pushing the respective consoles almost to their limits, based on their strengths . If Uc3 was to throw in full res alpha effects in place of the pretty lame looking half res fire effects , it certainly wouldn’t be as impressive in other respects . If gears tried to emulate the strengths of ps3 evident in uc3 , it would also suffer.

One of my TV’s is the DLP Mitsubishi WD-52327. Does not support 720p output…very common for 50″+ HDTV’s sold during that timeframe. I don’t know what you’re talking about with “dodgy”. PS3 games have to be specifically programmed for 1080i/p output or that TV will knock it down to 480p. Games like MGS4, GT5, KZ2, Uncharted2, MW2 and BlOps all support 1080i on PS3 and look great on that TV. Xbox 360 has a hardware vertical and horizontal scaler chip so 1080i support is never an issue on that TV.

Have you tried deselecting 480p/720p output in the display settings on the PS3?
You’re missing my point. Do you know what “Full 1080p” means? Before that feature was being advertised for HDTV’s, it was rare when a HDTV supported all HD resolutions. HDTV’s were sold as 480i/p w/ 720p support(usually for smaller screen sizes) or 480i/p w/ 1080i support(for bigger sizes). When I bought that TV hardly any mfg was doing Full 1080p(480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p).
Deselecting 480p/720p on the PS3 will force it into 480i if the actual game can’t output 1080i/p.
All my other TV’s are Full 1080p…which it sounds like what your Panasonic is.

Nope my panasnic 40″ and 32″ are both 1080i as I looked at ideal viewing distances for my rooms and figured out that 1080p was no benefit to me at all at the distances they were viewed from, plus model I bought got fantastic reviews and was said to handle bluray as well as the 1080p version . That tv is bout 3 years old too now .
U must have bought ur tv a long time back , but seriously , buy pansonic, samsung or Sony , if u buying a new tv( pansonic really are best ), and avoid low budget brands.
Panasonic is not the best, They have black level rising after a while and i can not stand bad black levels. Right now Samsung seems to be the way to go in a tv that is still in production. If you want the best Go find yourself a Pioneer Kuro.

@SUAREZ07 My Mitsu 52″ DLP is 6 years old. Purchased shortly before my 1st PS3. Like I wrote, all my other TV’s are Full 1080p. Not really TV shopping, got plenty.

Panasonic own pioneer and their technology lol.
Pioneer went bankrupt and sold panasonic the technology to their tv’s, Pansonic simply kept the name.
Pioneer is different pride range altogether, it’s the higher end market, but Panasonic lcd’s and plasmas are considered in that price bracket to be the best( Which are a great source to reference this), but if you want to really go high end, try Bang and Olufsen lol, a 45″ tv will cost you €10,000 .
I believe theres only three screen manufacturers in the world , and rest is down to the technology behind chipsets inside, but like I said, Panasonic own the pioneer brand and it’s technology , but obviously you get what u pay for, and if you buy a high end pioneer , you get better tv than a high end panasonic, as it’s , it’s luxury brand, in same way lexis is the luxury brand of Toyota.

In my opinion Samsung/Sony TV’s are the best especially for console gaming. Panasonic are the best plasma TV’s but the the best LCD TV’s [Which are best for consoles gaming] are Sony/Samsung [Sony and Samsung work together and both use the same panels {screens} for their TV's and use the same factories]

i didnt like the Sony sets when I looked at time, maybe theyve significantly improved, but at time when I bought my set, the Panasonics were streets ahead, especially in terms of motion blur on sports. The Pansonic 100hz tv’s were fantastic, and the engine almost eliminated motion blur completely, whilst the Sony’s were still blurry as hell when watching sports, which was big deciding factor for me.
Yeh the Bravia engine 2 TV’s wasnt as good as its competators, but now they are the best out of the LCD/LED TV’s along with Samsung. Motionflow and the Bravia engine 3 eliminate any ghosting and motion blur completely and provide an amzing picture the best you can get as far as TV’s go, the 120HZ very good for gaming.
Panasonic’s LCD’s arent up to par atall atm but as usual dominate the Plasma screens, but Plasmas ultimatly dont produce as good of a picture as LCD screens [they have deeper blacks, but they fade and the LCDs we have now have more than good enough blacks and are more vibrant and sharp and last longer] Although they have a mcuh faster refresh rate it doesnt make any difference atall from 120 HX for console gaming as 30 fps or 60 fps still doesnt even reach 120Hz
Id say the Samsung and Sony TV’s are both on par with eachother [as they are really both the same except different make and settings] and are the best LCD’s on the market.

A lot is down to personal preference , but from reviews I’ve seen the Pannys are usually amongst the best, with reviews often concluding like the one above, except the budget screens , which are good sets , but pricey considering features built in are minimal , very much like Sony sets in my experience .

I watched a few of his uploaded videos last night, game looks good to me.
Comparing it to the LOT ps3 video here suggests they are basically identicle(give or take gamma differences).
The 360 video seems to suggest a rock solid framerate(on the few chapters i watched)and no screen tearing.
Hard to be 100% certain though going on a few video clips.
Looks a promising game and a very good cross platform release.

It just shows that LOT’s comparision where all the differentce is from the Xbox is that its too washed out is just to do with settings [none of my PS3 games that are on here look washed out like that atall]
LOT dont calaberate their TV’s properly or just calaberate it for one consoels and use it for the other which is just wrong. Allot of the time aswell I dont think they use RGB full.
They also need to include sound into the H2H’s aswell as that is a big part of the game for some [big part for me, make a game good or bad, one of the reason I love BFBC2 so much]
But then that would be bad for the Xbox and it would lose everytime because the PS3 has far superior sound to it.
