Ninja Theory & Capcom have released the first official “work in progress” gameplay trailer for DmC Devil May Cry. In this trailer we finally get to see what all the fuss of young “emo” Dante is about. After you watch let us know what you think about the new look.

POWERED UP DANTE…
has his ‘real’ hair.
Clever girl.
ALSO…
are we now perhaps thinking that this is some DMC Zero type affair? And, do we think that Ninja Theory will be able to perhaps deliver beyond their apparent staple of <25fps for their character animation this time around? After all, previous DMC outings have always been silky smooth, thus, can NTheory deliver the required standard?
I'm not questioning their standards on their artwork as a whole, just, it always irks me how their surrounding elements are so well designed whilst their characters jerk around in the midst of it all like a clay stop-motion animation! It's not acceptable by todays (or last generations) standards. They repeated this same 'trait' in Enslaved, as was first seen in Heavenly Sword. I don't want to see it again in DMC. It doesn't seem to bother the many, but it really ticks me off…
What I’m most concerned about, Neo, is game play and the engine.
NT never have been all about sophisticated, deep combat and game play – heck in Enslaved the game told me throughout the whole affair how to jump, climb and toss Trip on ledges above Monkey -_-.
Enslaved had performance issues on PS3 and that massive screen-tearing (I’m a PC/PS3 owner) annoyed the heck out of me.
A fast paced action game like DMC will suffer severely on PS3. Frame rate drops and screen tearing are gonna kill the game for me and so far no developer – except NetherRealm – could deliver a UE3 powered game running at 60 fps w/o screen tearing on PS3.
Why not letting NT use the vastly superior MT framework engine for DmC is clearly beyond me.
It looks colorful but it’s 2011, the UE3 just doesn’t deliver lighting that was in DMC4. Doesn’t anybody notice that the animation of Dante (or whoever the hell he is) is kinda wonky and unappealing. It’s pretty obvious that the new Dante doesn’t seem in the least aesthetically pleasing; maybe in the late 80s, early 90s but it just doesn’t cut it here. Stop it Capcom, you going to feel the wrath of the fanbase if you continue by allowing DMC to not be DMC.
Perhaps I might be able to accept the new (ridiculously unappealing) costume design and that eyesore of a hair style, someday. But I will never be able to accept that skinny, malnourished figure of this Dante.
Westernized!? More like fuglified!
And heck, did the gameplay improve at all, in any aspect? And like NeoGeoNinja mentioned above, how will the game’s performance turn out given the team’s history.
I’m extremely displeased with this and will never buy it (even if it’s a free game ), but I will keep commenting, for sake of expressing my displeasure, every time I see any of its related news. At least until the game is released…
So, your outright refusing to play this because Dante’s no longer a pretty boy? Or is it because of the track record of Ninja Theory(which is not that bad)? No need to answer i’m just think typing out loud.
Personally i’m willing to give this a chance. I like Dante’s new(or old) look, and i feel that the series has needed a kick up the arse for quite a while now. Dmc 1 was awesome, and was easily one of my favourite PS2 games. 2 was ok, then it all went downhill from there IMO. So i’m hoping this fresh take on the series will rekindle some of the enjoyment i used to get while playing DMC.
It’s just tough to get used to this new Dante after I have had this image of the old Dante built in my mind for years.
It’s not just about being “pretty”, not that I ever thought Dante was a pretty boy. It’s just about him being cool, looking cool, and talking cool. If it was just about being “pretty” then Nero would have cut it, but as it turns out, I couldn’t even cope with his character (playing half the game as Nero felt disastrous.)
Going way back, I was also disappointed with the second game because I thought they butchered Dante’s personality, luckily they sorted out his personality by the third game. Depend on how this Dante might turn out, I might have yet another reason to hate it. Heh, who am I kidding, I have hated Ninja Theory since forever, so it’s safe to say that any game they develope will be hated by me.
Basically, I don’t like how this new Dante is turning out to be, so I won’t be getting this game, since there’s no joy in playing as a character you don’t like. Me hating this team of developers only helps to further assure that I won’t be getting this game. You can go ahead and classify me as a “hater” and drop that infamous “haters gonna hate” phrase on me.
U mad brah? O well, haters gonna hate…
Fair enough man. I wasn’t judging you for not liking it. I’m just sensing alot of hostility towards this new DMC, and from my perspective i can’t see why. But hatered towards a company is as good a reason as any i suppose.
Even if people don’t agree on the new look, surely everyone agrees that the franchise is flagging. And with each new game the series gets worse, right? So you must be able to see that this change is needed, or it could be the end for Dante alltogether.
Actually, I thought it should’ve ended with the fourth game. Playing half the game with Nero felt rather annoying, at least that’s how I felt. But D.m.C. is simply a new low for me, because never have I hated a game before it hits the shelves. I did ignored the games that I don’t dig (though I might slip in some troll comments for the sake of lulz
), but never have I outright despite a game, like this. Kudos to Ninja Theory for accomplishing such a task.
“So, your outright refusing to play this because Dante’s no longer a pretty boy?”
I think it’s the opposite of that. He looked cool as f*ck in the PS2 titles, what does he look like now? I’ll let you answer that.
He looked cool as fuck in the mid 90′s, but tastes have changed. Now it’s less mr perfect, more mr i don’t give a fuck. And i think thats more cool. Or maybe it’s just the Union Jack on his arm thats swaying it for me.
“…in the mid 90′s” Wait, what are you talking about? Dante is an original character from Capcom that made its first appareance the past decade. Show me some link or pictures to see where did your comment come from.
In DMC4, his character design was top notch I think.
But now? Ninja Theory and Capcom have taken a character design and fervently beat it into submission where the blood and entrails left of said character design are now what’s being animated via polygons.
It’s despicable for someone that’s been a fan of the series for 10 years.
And with each new game the series gets worse, right?
Actually, Devil May Cry 1 and 3 are regarded as the best. 4 was good too, it’s 2 however that’s the bad apple. So that logic is not right. And no, it’s not flagging, DMC4 was the best selling one of the 4 and the most recent. This reboot was completely unneeded.
Did I mention this game defies Devil May Cry canon? It’s supposed to be an origin story. Yet this borderline emo (If not already so) has black hair and is a darker version of the Dante we know. In the anime (Which is canon mind you), his hair has always been white, and he has never had this off shot personality now.
And the hair is the very least of everything wrong with this character design.
There we go,
Emo (supersayan) May Cry.
Where’s the real Dante?
LOL!!! @ “Emo (Super Saiyan) May Cry”.
I was wondering why that transformation looked familiar.
xD
That´s the next Franchise which will be destroyed because they change to much. First of all, Capcom did not produce the Game itself. Then they change Dante. And also the Animation looks like crap. The Background looks good but the Monster Design is…
I like the Song but it doesn´t fit. Devil May Cry needs Heavy Metal and Gothik like Music.
I’ve always focused more in the gameplay of DMC then anything else, so while I’m skeptical of this one, I’m not outright hostile.
The standing fan theory is that this is a “Devil May Cry Zero” type thing.
Harry potter may cry.
Emo may cry…. shame.
Man, the look is terrible, is that they guy from twilight???…damned, the game looks like a wii game…why capcom, why!?
