Gamers are finally fed-up with Capcom. After the publishers last stunt — disc locking and saving 12 characters in their latest fighter Street Fighter x Tekken for DLC — consumers have reported the publisher to the Better Business Bureau. Today Capcom responded, saying:
SFxT has an enormous amount of content, fully developed and available for play and enjoyment immediately on-disc. Given the 38 characters available for full play, as well as multiple play modes, SFxT provides great value for all players from day one. While Capcom is sorry that some of its fans are not happy about the chosen method of delivery for the DLC, we believe that this method will provide more flexible and efficient gameplay throughout the game’s lifecycle. There is effectively no distinction between the DLC being ”locked” behind the disc and available for unlocking at a later date, or being available through a full download at a later date, other than delivery mechanism.
We think its nice that Capcom took the time to respond to complaints, but really, does this response satisfy anyone? Don’t they see that by keeping DLC on disc, rather then on a network makes gamers feel cheated? Like really cheated no matter what they say? Apparently not. Let us know how you feel below.

Let’s look 12 years back… We went to the store, bought the game, enjoyed all the content it had to offer. Nowadays, there are patches, DLC’s and some other crap that makes developers lazy by giving them the opportunity to fix issues after the game is released.
$$$$$$$$$$ for the developers I guess.
Agreed. I miss very much the PS2 time. Games were nearly perfect out of the box, with full content at a fixed price. If they didn’t deliver, they failed.
And PC game publishers didn’t overload your machine with DRM malware.
“DL”C
“downloadable” content
What part of downloadable don’t they get?
Capcom basically said “We know give a shit what gamers think, they have to just deal with it”
Maybe when their sales started being affected by all their BS, they’ll care.
I’ll probably NEVER buy a new Capcom game EVER again.
Gamers today just don’t have the guts to protest this way.
I won’t buy Capcom games anymore as well, but we are too few to scare such a Company by threatening their money.
it’s been years since I bought a capcom game (mainly due to the fact that I just haven’t really been gripped by any of their newer games) the last one I bought was Resident Evil 4 on the Wii (best version BTW) and this disc-locked stuff they’ve been pulling puts them even farther away from my wallet (which is why I’m glad Nintendo has made it clear that for DLC on their systems content can’t be withheld in any way. one of the few online choices nintendo has made that I can whole heartedly stand by)
On-Disc Locked Content (O-DLC)
i remember soul calibur 2 on gamecube.. it had 7 characters locked on the disc. that you unlocked by playing, and winning challenges. how many characters on smash bros brawl? 16? locked on disc.
now its not about skill, just if u got paid that week “dlc” comes out
SFxT is selling rather poorly (470.000 on both platform according to VGChartz), way less than both Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on their first incarnation (not to mention Mortal Kombat), and I’m happy that it’s going this way. How long it will take Capcom to understand that its commercial strategy (re-releasing the same game with minor tweaks at a lower price six month after the first release, selling mutilate games to charge other money for the full experience) is pissing off most of its customers? Capcom should really get some marketing lession from CD Projekt RED…
AMEN!
they should rename it “tekken skinned street fighter 4″ theres nothing “tekken” about the characters other than looks
This is as bad as the ONLINE PASS ITSELF.
how CAPCOM dares to rip off lowal customers with $15 of locked content already on disc, this is an act of thievery no matter from wich angle you see it.
After learning this, (I know there could be some on disc DLC…BUT NEVER IMAGINED THAT COULD BE SO HUGE) Ive sold my copy on craiglist for 45$ but copied the disc into my JTAG, downloaded a pc patch to apply to the files and now im very happy playing with all unlocked content with my JTAG,
Honestly, I wont buy any CAPCOM game again.
Also Ive changed my motto:
“I DONT BUY/SUPPORT ONLINE PASS OR ODDLC GAMES”
I said it before and I’ll say it again.
I miss the days every one paid their money and we all got the same gaming experience.
Gaming was a great level playing field. Having the same console you got the same gaming experience as the rich spoilt kid that goes to your school. Now the more money you are willing to spend the better the experience you are going to get.
It wont be long before you have to pay for extra DLC to get a true ending of a game…… Oh wait ME3!
and here i thought dlc implies that content has to be downloaded, yet capcom have a strangely loose understanding of the “dl” part of dlc.
we’ve already marked the game down to $39.96 (wal-mart)
not sure if its permanent or not. Skyrim was $39 in march and is back up to $59
