Roll over image to see the differences.
At first glance the Xbox 360 version seems to have slightly sharper textures and more defined normal maps, but with a little investigating and a trained eye the dark side of the Xbox 360 starts to emerge. As with most cross platform games the PS3 versions always seemed to suffer from some type of hazing when viewed next to the360 version, but the fact is the default contrast ratio between the two are dramatically different. In most cases the darker contrast found within the 360 version is usually more pleasing to the eye but not this time around. The darker contrast actually affects the level of detail of the textures for the 360 version. That being said the positive side to this is the 360 normal maps seem more pronounced and the PS3 texture detail is easier to see, if you can see them, so in the end each version texture differences nulls each other’s positive out.

Load times during story mode where identical in each version, averaging around 8 seconds throughout. Also the loading times were well masked behind the in-game cinematic when describing who and why you are about to fight the next challenger. Midway does an excellent job with the load times on each version especially the PS3 version which doesn’t have the usually mandatory install minimizing load times. It is beyond me why so many developers this generation that release cross platform games thinks it’s acceptable for mandatory installs to keep the two games close, when developers like Midway some how you magically don’t need the mandatory install and do it without sacrificing quality or consistency between versions.

While there were minor differences between both version of Mortal Kombat vs DC both looked and felt identical in every way. Most of the time we had to glance at which controller was in our hands to confirm which version was currently being played. Lastly when developers like Midway can produce an almost identical cross platform port while compromising nothing from the overall quality of their game really proves Midways experiences, quality and dedication they bring to the industry. This also confirms that their should be no excuses why Xbox 360 and PS3 cross platform games differ the way it has been this entire generation.

Xbox 360 version may seem to have slightly sharper textures but the darker contrast takes away some of the texture detail found in the slightly brighter PS3 version. |

Both the Xbox 360 and Ps3 controller felt natural and well mapped. |

While playing through story mode both version had exactly the same amount of loading time throughout. Also note there was no mandatory install needed for the PS3 version. |

Not often do we declare a tie but setting aside the 360 darker contrast both games where almost identical when viewing them side by side. |

Great Head2Head Shawn! Man you hit the nail on the head when you said “This also confirms that their should be no excuses why Xbox 360 and PS3 cross platform games differ the way it has been this entire generation.” I agree with you 100%. Btw, this is one of my all time favorite game. I really love the way they did their combo system. My only disappointment was the fatalities, but that was all DC’s doing and not Midway’s.

Although the Xbox had better normal mapping, their super contrast has once again done them in. It’s so dark you can barely see his hair texure. And when it’s night, it’s hard to see the Flash, and he’s RED!!!! Xbox lost cause of their contrasts with Prince of Persia, and they almost lost it here too for the same reason. I’m starting to wonder if Xbox is being super contrasty cause they’re hiding something like a limitation or something.

Makes me wonder if microsoft purposely contrasts in ALL their games cause it tricks the brain into thinking its a better quality. Maybe they use it to their advantage to use “better” graphics.
Other then that its like comparing a turd to a darker turd.
Thanks for the H2H

I was testing everyone…yeah. No, you got me, I screwed up on those last side by side comparison pictures. I’m sorry about that. Last thing we need is people thinking we’re biased. That’s for bringing it to out attention. I will fix the video and have the fixed video online by the end of today.
