Analysis - Mass Effect 2 Fullscreen gameplay analysis of Mass Effect 2 on the Xbox 360. |
||||
Last week the Lens of Truth took a look at how much Mass Effect has changed in our special Mass Effect Evolution. While our evolution piece focused mainly on the differences within the series, this analysis video will be 100% pure gameplay from Mass Effect 2. Also, this video is the first in many fullscreen analysis features we will be adding to the site (primarily geared towards console exclusives).
As mentioned in our Mass Effect Evolution, BioWare completely overhauled the performance in Mass Effect 2. Gone are the annoying texture loading “pops”, frame rate drops, and severe frame tearing. Mass Effect 2 performs like a champ, very rarely dropping below the 30 fps mark and only tearing when the action gets heavy. We also noticed that the tearing is isolated to the upper quarter of the screen and is virtually unnoticeable.
| Mass Effect 2 Frame Analysis | |
| Clip 1: Length of clip: 4383 frames Average FPS of clip: 29.62 Percent of torn frames: 1.11 |
Clip 2: Length of clip: 2993 frames Average FPS of clip: 29.95 Percent of torn frames: 0.04 |
| Clip 3: Length of clip: 1679 frames Average FPS of clip: 29.35 Percent of torn frames: 0.25 |
Clip 4: Length of clip: 4246 frames Average FPS of clip: 29.41 Percent of torn frames: 0.25 |
Global percent of torn frames: 0.83 |

We hope you enjoy our new analysis section and if there are any exclusives that you would like to see featured, let us know! In future editions of “Analysis”, we’ll give our full impressions on graphics, performance and loading; however, since these topics were already covered in our Mass Effect Evolution, it seemed redundant to talk about them here. Check out that Evolution if you haven’t done so!

I am actually very interested in performance analysis on exclusive titles now. Totally looking forward to them.

I didn’t really care too much for the first game’s battle mechanics, so hopefully ME2 feels more action oriented.
