“..you really feel immersed in the war …” |
Now that everyone has been briefed on the ridiculous terrorism mission within this game, we can get on to more important things, like how good the game really is. Infinity Ward once again harnesses the action and emotion surrounding war and brings it home. This time around, the story within campaign doesn’t just feel like an add on to multiplayer, and we get a new Special Ops mission mode as well.
I was pleasantly surprised with the depth and time that was put into the campaign. Although the campaign itself doesn’t last long, the missions and battles are done so well that you really feel immersed in the war. Having some of the battles take place on U.S. soil for the first time made the experience that much more exciting. Also, the return to “modern warfare” means awesome weapons and tactics which can only be done with the technology we have today. For me this is way more interesting than battling with a bolt-action rifle.
As expected, the multiplayer and online battles is where CoD:MW2 shines. All the gameplay and control from the original are still here, so veterans of the series don’t be alarmed. There are new perks, weapons, and even the ability to decimate the entire battlefield this time. The new maps look great and I have yet to come across one I wanted to skip in the pregame lobby. The maps are huge, allowing for all types of strategies. Having such well created maps makes it much easier to play the other game modes as well. Many times, maps don’t translate well to certain game types, but these maps are so well done that they all seem to work. I know many gamers aren’t happy with the technical changes such as no designated servers, but this doesn’t take away from the experience at all. It’s just something to nitpick at. The final addition to the Modern Warfare series is the introduction of the Special Ops missions. These are short missions for one or to players. Each mission has a set of objectives to complete and you are graded on how well the mission criteria is completed. This is an awesome addition to the CoD series.
Once again, Infinity Ward sets the bar for first person war games. The feeling you get when playing through the campaign and battling onlinE isn’t matched by any other FPS. This is an easy must buy and, just like Uncharted 2, what a true sequel should be. I wish Infinity Ward had realized what they had and didn’t try to shock people into buying their game. It would have sold fine without the “No Russian” stage. |

If you were a fan of Modern Warfare like me, you probably couldn’t think of how a sequel could get any better. Just to let you all know, the highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 was well worth the wait. With new perks, amazing graphics, and returning characters, Modern Warfare 2 a well put-together shooter that will bring endless hours of gameplay. Whether it’s the totally replayable campaign, addictive multiplayer, or special ops, Modern Warfare 2 won’t let you down.
Right from the begining, the campaign explodes with high action and tension that doesn’t slow down. The story and gameplay will keep you on the edge of your seat like a summer action blockbuster. First, we have the campaign; the story is something pulled straight out of a conspiracy novel keeping you surprised the whole time, disappointing only with it’s length. Spec ops is Modern Warfare 2s answer to co-op giving players the chance to play through different scenarios together, challenging you both in many ways and making you work together to complete and open more. Then comes the big one: the non-stop addicting Modern Warfare multiplayer. Multiplayer gives us all that we loved in the first Modern Warfare: new weapons, perks, call signs, emblems, and so much more. The multiplayer maps are wonderfully put together and the action is fast and addicting. You wont want to put the controller down with controls and gameplay that stay tried and true with just enough new content to improve but not disappoint. Modern Warfare 2 gets everything right with its graphics. Every item model and texture is beautiful. Sound is also something that will blow you away and on the tech side i saw no slow down screen tearing or jaggies.
In the end, I have to say that Modern Warfare 2 is the great sequel that we were all waiting for and Infinity Ward did an excellent job. This game is a must play and a must own for any Modern Warfare or FPS fan.

“…This game packs tons of excitement …” |

After playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 I had a lot of mixed emotions. I had to take a moment to think about just what it was I experienced .Graphically, I wasn’t overly impressed with this one. I mean it wasn’t terrible looking by any means but I know it could have looked a little better. I was surprised to see both versions missing SSAO and anti aliasing. Nonetheless, the game still packs tons of excitement.
After the opening training section the game drops you right into the action. At times things get so crazy you can barey see what’s going on, and believe me, it’s awesome! Technically speaking, the game is quite impressive, especially when the action gets hectic. For a game to run at an average of 50 + FPS, with no screen tearing and so much stuff going on not only baffles me, frankly, it’s amazing. Infinity Ward did a great job keeping this series alive and action packed.
If there was one thing I was confused about it would have to be the infamous airport level that is surrounded by so much controversy. I won’t spend too much time on this as I’m really not sure how I feel about that part of the story. All I will say is that both sides of the controversy have some very valid points. I feel my opinion toward the matter is irrelevant for this review. I’m buying this game regardless, mainly for its amazing multiplayer experience. Like the rest of you, I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time, and in my opinion, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is well worth the wait…and the money.

Jamie,
Modern Warfare 2 has 2x Anti-Aliasing – you guys even mention it in your technical analysis. I personally see very little aliasing – there still is some, but its minimal – on my 360 version of it, running through HDMI on my 40″ bravia.

Hey Joe, thanks for the comment. Yeah I found out after I wrote my review. Corey told me that both versions supported 2x AA. I don’t know, at times it still seems a little jagged. Regardless, It’s still an amazing game and I’m having so much fun playing it!
Thanks again,
-Jaime

Great Reviews.
I personally have a great ideas for you guys. Why not do flash review videos? Where you guys all sit together and talk about the game, showing off footage along the way and at the end give a final verdict from each of you?

Enjoyed the reviews, but I’d have to agree with jaime the most, I mean this game just isn’t what 2 years buildup to. I mean if they cut the campaign so short why sell it so exp?
Its just a Halo; ODST both are just expansions and overpriced.
ESPECIALLY THE PC VERSION! 59.99? You want to encourage piracy with that price tag? Greedy Activision
Try lowering it to 39.99 new games, 29.99 after, 19.99 greatest hits the 9.99 bargain.
Anywho, great review from every1, I’m still steaming from the lack of dedicated servers and match making in PC.
FAIL!
And I’m being generous!

For me it isn’t on the same level as ODST since it has an all new multiplayer side, which is the major focus of all FPSs. For ODST we only got to play an existing Halo 3 multiplayer. If ODST had had a brand new multiplayer, maps, etc..I would have scored it higher. I’m not even a big fan of FPS games and even though the campaign is short I was really into it and for some reason it has been my game of choice lately.
Thanks
-Jason
