This weekend I had the privilege to play Uncharted 2 prior to it’s release, and let me first say that Uncharted 2 is the best looking game I have seen to date. Honestly, what Naughty Dog has done with Uncharted 2 can only be described as EPIC. That being said, I stumbled upon something with Uncharted 2 that never really occurred to me until now. How far away from my HDTV is the optimal viewing distance for an HD videogame such as Uncharted 2?

What led me to write this article was that Uncharted 2 looked so unbelievably good that I had to physically get up out of my chair and get up close and personal with my TV. While I was getting closer and closer I noticed the visuals seemed to go south until I was literally inches from my TV. That’s when Uncharted 2 turned into a pixelated mess. Shocked, I started backing up. At approximately4 feet: Voila! Uncharted 2 looked amazing again. Now I know you’re not supposed to be that close to your TV set, but how far should I be? Most of my friends sit about 2-3 feet away from their TVs, but again, is that the optimal distance for HD viewing perfection? Well, we’re all in luck because a website by the name of HDTVtest has researched exactly this. After reading this study, I found out that, luckily, I had been sitting at an optimal viewing distance and my Uncharted 2 experience was not tainted.

The question is “how close do you sit to your TV?”
