We compare both versions of Call of Duty: World at War to see which offers the better World War II experience. Check out the video and you be the judge.

Call of Duty: World at War is one beautiful game, no matter which platform you choose to purchase it for. But there are some slight differences and the Xbox 360 is clearly ahead in the graphics department. The lighting effects, shadow quality and textures are cleaner on the Xbox 360, whereas the PlayStation 3’s shadows tend to be jagged and the textures lower resolution throughout. It’s almost like the PS3 is loading one of the MIP maps for the actual texture. This results in a blurry mess when viewed up close. Also, the PS3 version is missing the heat haze that is present around flames (distorts your vision). Its not a deal breaker, but regardless a nice effect that should be there. We have also noticed that the anti-aliasing on the Xbox 360 to be softer, possibly running at 2x. But that’s enough yammering, you be the judge. Check out the images below, they are 600×323 unaltered crops of in game screenshots. Simply mouse over them to load the Xbox 360 screenshot. We tried our best to match the camera angles which is not an easy task.

Both version of Call of Duty: World at War control equally as well. Which is what we would expect from a AAA title. So this one really comes down to personal taste.

In the same manor as the controls, the audio is pretty much equal. Treyarch did a phenomenal job with both the score and sound effects.

And lastly, the load times. There is no hard drive install like so many PS3 games lately. So the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are on the same playing level. There are no noticeable load times on either version as they are cleverly hidden in the cut scenes.

PS3 - Win Loading is a tie. Both load equally fast in the story mode campaign. The majority of the loading takes place during cut scenes so you never feel like you are waiting to return to the action. Xbox 360 - Win

Xbox 360 - Win All in all this is a very close experience and you won’t be disappointed with either version of the game. The Xbox 360 takes the win by a very narrow margin and that is due to the higher fidelity textures, effects and softer shadows. Xbox 360 - Win

It’s really splitting hairs now. This is how multiplatform games should be. Both look outstanding but as stated above the 360 does have better textures. I’d give water and fire to the PS3 though (minus the heat haze) Great job with the video.

The first picture for ps3 have a little more detail than the 360, but still the game looks great on both of them though.

Great video and written comparison. I did a comparison of my own and found the same things as you. The 360 version is sharper and clearer overall, has better anti-aliasing (at least on the shadows) and has a few effects that are missing in the PS3 version. The 360 version definitely wins in the graphics department.

Well, I do. Something must be wrong with either your eyes, monitor, or maybe even your brain. The xbox 360 version clearly looks better.

I don’t trust this site. I have seen other comparisons of this game and they all point to the PS3 version. Sites like Gamestop and Gametrailers. This site only focused on aspects the 360 excelled in. What about the parts were the PS3 excells in. Where are those? Plus a few of these textures looked superior on the PS3 anyways.

whatever makes you feel better, the rollover screenshots and the zoomed areas in the video clearly shows that the PS3 version has lower resolution textures.

Can you point out exactly what parts the PS3 excels in?

What people fail to remember is this. When most games are developed on the Xbox 360 the BEST the PS3 can hope for is a tie. And most of the time, unfortunately that is not the case.

This is weird as the ps3 graphics is suspiciously inferior and blurred out compared to Gamespots ps3,pc and 360 comparison.

    I smell foul play
