Double Dragon was released on the NES in June of 1988. It’s a conversion of the legendary arcade hit, and is one of the first good beat-em-ups released for a home console. The story in it has it all – a kidnapped girlfriend, a double crossing brother, post-apocalyptic New York, chicks with whips, and gigantic 8-foot tall men who burst out of stone walls eager to beat your face in. Cinematic movies weren’t always the norm for video game storytelling. The first to use this method, Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden in 1989. retroSpect: Friday the 13th

In the eighties, in some ways even more then now companies would try anything to make a dollar. Case in point , Friday the 13th for the NES. I mean, who better to market toward mostly kids at the time then a game featuring machete wielding maniac killer Jason Voorhees? The result of LJN’s little horror movie\video game has since been referred to as one of the worst titles in gaming history. Could there possibly be any good points to this Crystal Lake adventure? Or does it really live up to it’s bad reputation as being one of the most horrific games ever?
