Just in time for the holidays, we get a wonderful tale of death, revenge, and reclamation. No it isn’t the story of the Ten Commandments, it is the tale of Kratos, the God of War. Now check out this retro Review to see if all the hype surrounding this Spartan is really worth it, or if Kratos should have been left on the Island of Misfit Toys with the rest of the Hack n’ Slash titles.
The Mark of Kri is one of those sleeper games. Not many have this game, but this is actually one of the best games to get for the PS2. If you find it; new, used, bargain bin, partially burned, whatever, you must get this game. This is one of the few games that combine sneaking, and one-man-army styles flawlessly. Want to sneak around the corner, grab a guard and pin him to the wall using your giant sword? How about run into a hoard of enemies and literally cut them in half with an axe? You’ve come to the right game. There’s so much good here and so little wrong. Let’s start with the story.
The “3″ in the title Metal Gear Solid 3 (MGS3) indicates that this isn’t a new series in games. MGS3 continues the saga built by Kojima that stretches all the way back to Metal Gear for the NES. In MGS3, Kojima presents the tale of the original Snake character, who will eventually become Big Boss of Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid 1. So yes, even Kojima couldn’t resist the power of the darkside – a.k.a. the prequel.
Shadow Of the Colossus is the long awaited follow up to ICO, a launch title for the PS2. It seems only fitting that Shadow is one of the last dedicated games to come out for the PS2. Having never played ICO, I can safely say that Shadow felt like a stand alone game, and from what I’ve heard, the game doesn’t seem to be all too much in the way of a traditional sequel. My good friend Corey would still like to point out that this is NOT a sequel, but this is my review. That being said, let’s move onto the review.
